Wedding dinner

According to rachel this'll be her third wedding this month of march.
It's just the second for me but if it's more than once within a month
it's still pretty darn lot of dinners to attend. And thanks to this we
certainly can't complain about not getting enough shark's fin in our
diet. The downside would probably be our moolah growing more wings and
flying away... Hehe...

i've had tons to do at work this whole week. so tired i'm glad it's the weekend at least. though i'll have to attend RT on sunday morning, and there's a wedding to attend this saturday evening... >_>

and what's more is that a colleague of mine will be going to korea to enjoy herself for a whole week! guess who gets to take over her stuff while she's afk? moi. just hope her stuff don't stir too much for me. >_<"

i attended my second remedial training today. yeah, 'cos i'd failed my physical test last year... not surprising though, considering i only took it once, during my ict. my first session was just this last sunday. waking up at 8am is not very fun. but fortunately the first session was mostly briefing and yak yak yak by the instructors and stuff.

today was a little different. everyone definitely had a small pail of sweat put to them for the few hours we were there. of course for me at least i'd want to make it worth my time since we've to be there anyway. aching here there and everywhere now... i'm lucky they didn't use the full 4 hours of our time. i doubt anyone can last that long with the training to undergo.

on a lighter note, thanks darling! the key pouch is just lovely! =x

it's nearing the end of the month YET again... so work is piling up once more. a deadly routine if you must. i'll just grin and bear it thank you very much.

enemy at the gates!

gosh there really were a couple. those filthy things probably crawled in from under my door. yes, two roaches decided to make their way under my living room couch when i spotted one while on my way out moments ago.

i'd initially thought there to be only one of them. when i initiated my scare technique i could only see one everytime trying to escape from under the couch but then decided to run back into the safety of the bottom of the couch. so i switched to my gas attack! insecticide at both ends of the couch. still it didn't budge. then i stood back a while and spotted one crawling up the wall. with a healthy dose of the gas, it tumbled back under the couch. i immediately doused the area with more insecticide.

i finally offered my searchlight strategy, pointing 2 torches at both ends of the couch. and there they were! i spotted BOTH on their backs! just to make sure, i sprayed some more at both, while my lights were directed at both of them. but they were hard to reach, and i was not about to leave them lying there to attract other insects.

therefore i then decided that they were immobilised and safe enough for me, so i proceeded to move the couch away. piece by piece. the cushions weren't exactly light, and were rather cumbersome in their soft cushiony shapes too. after much sweat, i cleared a path, opened the door, and prepared to move the last piece of the furniture that they were both under. i was about to send these uninvited guests out the door.

but to make sure they don't decide to recover and come back in, i initiated my newspaper attack on both. filthy insects as they were, they could still move and wriggle despite being disabled. nevertheless, their struggle was futile, as i used my newspaper to swipe them out the door like a golf club in the rough.

tax

just great. you want to know how efficient the tax department in singapore really is? my previous post had bits and pieces about enquiries regarding my tax filing. i'll bet one of them tax guys scours blogs online looking for stuff like this to make their day. because the next thing you know, i'd received my iras form b1 in the mail! gosh isn't it freaky?! i'm going to have to look through that stuff, against the stuff my company gave me (had almost no idea what to do with it weeks back when i'd received THAT piece of information) and see what i can do online with the e-filing stuff. i have like about 3 weeks to get this thing done. let's see if it'll be painless enough for me to go through without a hitch.

presentation effects + rant

*warning: completely geeky post ahead (and a bit of self-nagging/ranting)*

i'm proud myself in a way. i'd managed to tweak a script i'd found somewhere online such that i can manage a simple slideshow of a number of images just by adding the images into one folder, and tweaking a value in the javascript. nothing too fancy about it, just that in transitions between the images, i fade out one and fade in the other. all that and it still maintains cross-browser friendliness. i think. the next step is to probably throw in a title/label for each image some how. and maybe further on short descriptions and linkage. sounds fun!

i know it's totally out of context for me to put the link to what i've done here. because it's the site i've been helping to maintain for a while already now. for free, practically... why i've managed to persist this way for so long (probably close to a year already) is simply beyond me. i suppose it's in a way an experimental ground for yours truly to fiddle with techniques i'd otherwise not be able to implement at work. yes yes... i know i MUST be crazy to be thinking about all this geeky techie javascript programming stuff OUTSIDE of work.

ridiculously enough i'd claim it as a hobby of mine. some people collect stamps, some learn dancing, some get occupied with sports, and here i am indoors in front of the computer and not even gaming! what do i do at work? programming in all (some) sorts. what do i do AFTER work? oh i don't know, a bit of programming here and there AS WELL! i know i can do with improving on my skills constantly but this smells awfully like programming is in my blood.

bah. okay enough ranting.

and then i found out i HAVE to submit my taxes this year. advice anyone? it's still my *cough* virginal attempt at filing this sort of stuff. and it's my very first "close encounters with the tax department". any help is greatly appreciated. just don't point me in all different directions thank you very much.

it's just that sometimes, the sudden inspiration engulfs me enough to blog a short post via sms. and with 160 characters (less than commands/email address/subject) there really is limited space for the real content. give a little take a little. this gets counted into my monthly 500 free sms. and i'm using up barely half of my "free" bundle every month anyway. certainly beats having to pay another $5 for their "moblogging" package monthly. :P so when i can find the time+inspiration/urge i'll still blog long posts like this. ^^;;

this is a neat little tool! i just got it installed on my N80 and it seems i can make phone calls to people on my google talk and msn list! on my wifi connection instead! i know i'm a real cheapo but it sounds pretty exciting if you ask me.

meanwhile, in other news... besides making somebody dehydrated =x hope the new addition will be a spirit booster. ;)

Nokia Smartphone software - Nokia N80

ok this is cool. i'm surprised i was able to find this little gem. i own an N80 and more often than not it's a pain to send an sms, because each time i press the send button, it takes up to 10s or more for the screen to recover from freezing up! so nokia does care. on that page, they actually provided a small utility (invisible to the phone user) called the SMS Accelerator! needless to say, i downloaded it as soon as i could because i can't wait to get my grimy little hands on it. after installing it, i seriously think that it works! interestingly enough though, why they don't call this a patch (which seriously i know this is a patch) is beyond me, but hey it works so it's definitely a good thing.

at last, my cave have been given a fresh facelift! what do you think of it? i came up with the shitty icon as i've been known to be a rather shitty person (in more ways than one). the tag board is still around but i've added a few juicier widgets: my most recent del.icio.us bookmarks and the tags that go with them by frequency in order of font sizes. this way, whenever i add a bookmark (while skiving off at work or otherwise) that list will be pretty up to date. nothing special, just rss feeds to my account there that's all. i'm also counting down to stuff whenever i can too... heh...
