today is the 94th day after my grandmother's death. technically speaking we're suppose to conduct a ritual on the 100th. but to accomodate most people who are working, we'd set it on a sunday. today.
waking up rather early (for a sunday), we headed to my uncle's home. for some reason, the family had hired a taoist priest. i'm not even sure if it's taoist. just some guy who wears a robe when he chants something in cantonese. i think he can pass for a rap artiste if he tried. seriously! he was ranting off some incantations (which were pretty audible, if you understand cantonese) in a constant beat/rhythm. pretty catchy. i'm sure if anyone listens to it long enough they'll bop their heads and nod in tune to it. ok i digressed. he performed some sort of rites. the family took turns "offering" the rice wine and tea as a tradition.
the family had lunch at a "restaurant" just less than a minute away. the pathetic-excuse-for-a-food-outlet-restaurant to be more precise. bad attitude by the servers, and food was not fantastic at all. not nice. almost everyone agreed that it's our first and last time coming here. even the rice was... dry. ah well. the only excuse we could muster was its proximity to my uncle's home. the other thing which was just as disappointing was that some of the family members couldn't make it. those who were on official business (like a cousin of mine who'd went brunei on NS) were understandable... minus one which... wasn't too good. my brother mentioned quietly to us that he'd went to pasir gudang. car racing in malaysia. tsk.
so goes the first week that i'm home. i guess i'm still "recovering"... maybe i'll have to start "revising" soon.
* sorry! -massage legs- =x *
