my condolences to the people there. it is a pity that such an incident occurred yet again in Bali.
althought i can't help but read this statement from whoever gave it that it's small wonder the incident happened...
and i quote: "These are clearly terrorist attacks because the targets were random and public places," he said.
right. i'd assume that any explosion that kills a lot of people and is not an accident would be a terrorist attack. but then his conclusion that the targets were random and public places does not make anywhere else safer. a terrorist attack can happen anywhere the baddie so pleases. it's just because these are soft targets and easy kill that's maybe why the bomb was planted there for maximum damage. my point is, if the conclusions drawn by the person with this statement are as such, they better start re-assessing their threats because it may be worse than the situation presents itself.
come to think of it, why do the terrorists attack Bali? is it because
a) it is a tourist destination?
b) they want to "remind" people 3yrs after the first incident?
c) they couldn't get their goods into Australia so the next nearest location was Bali?
d) they see that the security in Bali was lax and it was easy to plant their devices?
e) or all of the above?
if no armed organisation is coming out to admit the deed, it's rather pointless. these groups want to make their presence known to the world, and if doing something like this without admitting their own presence, it doesn't seem to worth the effort.
with all that social unrest in Indonesia, it's unlikely peace will settle in the country anytime soon. i certainly think they need more international help in maintaining order in the country, tighten the security within their borders and weed out the offending perpetrators as quickly as possible.
they have too much land and too little manpower to locate the bad elements. the government is barely cleansed of corruption and the people don't seem to agree with the government policies much. unless they can straighten themselves out soon, they'll need help badly. i don't mean it in a bad way, but even if they are fully self-sufficient, it won't help if they haven't gotten themselves together after so long.
then again, i guess the terrorist would only attack the weakest element. and apparently in this scenario, Bali seemed to fit the bill nicely, yet again.
gee i think i'm getting too obsessed with all this security stuff. i just rant incessantly when i read about such articles.
