this is bad

i'm really not going anywhere. i'm home to do my work daily, and play abit of gunbound, irc. oh yes and the meals too. and the work was giving me problems with the compiling stuff. grr... it took me bloody ages to figure out what went wrong. in fact i DIDN'T figure out what went wrong. just tried my luck rebooting. and recompiling and test test, voila it was working again. wtf...

let me record down also, my triumph over my computer update. i have 2 desktops at home. i usually chat in irc on this, my old pentium 2 350Mhz running on win98se. it's in my room. this is about the _other_ desktop. it's pentium 4 1.7Ghz running on win2k upgraded to winxp.

so this winxp was giving me problems with updating to Service Pack 2 (SP2). why? i'd tried dozens of times before, since 2mths ago i believe. that whenever i tried installing the XP SP2, the computer would just reboot happily in a death loop. i gave up pretty much back then. just that few days ago i reboot the computer after leaving it on for 2wks 3days plus. and decided to try my luck again. but this time i got cleverer. i googled several online forums for info on the error. actually the recurring reboot was due to a fault. and i quote, "IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL" and the hex code of 0x0A.

i noticed a side comment somewhere somebody had problems with A4tech mouse with the SP2 upgrade. hey i'm using an optical A4tech mouse on that com. so i had the notion of such possibility. so i gave heck and unplugged everything save for the keyboard on the com, before i installed SP2. and it went smoothly! yay~ so i plugged everything in. and leaving the mouse last, just to prove to myself i was correct in my deduction, i plugged in the mouse at last, and the computer instantly reboot like it was bitten by a snake.

i used MouseKeys to move the cursor around and downloaded the A4Tech mouse driver update off their webby (this new driver version claims it's meant for XP-SP2) and tried again. yay~ problem solved~

this proves if a problem is left alone and you come back to it after sometime with sheer resolution in getting it fixed, it is possible to do so! V^_^ but of course i'd also be asking myself "why didn't i think about that idea earlier" and smack myself on the forehead.

nvm. at least it's fixed now. and my com is updated. yay.

*i'm not feeling right. i'm feeling left. left out, left behind, left alone, left to drown.*
