greener grass

Someone in my Facebook posted a simple query in her update today. Is the grass really greener? My answer is yes, despite all that's been happening recently.

I know my blog has collected heaps of cobwebs amidst my daily updates via Facebook. Nevertheless, here's a brief hands-on recap. I've been into my new job for over 2 months now (since mid April).

I've been through the slack honeymoon initial period, and even went for my 2 weeks' stint for ICT this year. The past 2 weeks were - to be put succinctly - hell week. The past 7 days especially, had myself and my colleagues spending long hours in the office trying to iron out bugs and pushing out the project to production environment. New workarounds introduced new bugs, and so on so forth.

My last Saturday and Sunday were spent mostly in the office. Rachel had been left out in the cold.

I still do miss my colleagues and the "work" work in the old company, maybe more some than others, but indeed, the grass is probably still greener here. A psychological analysis would make this logical. I've put down all the negative and cumbersome workload that was handed to me in my previous job. That is a huge relief.

Now, I've taken over some other types of work in this new job. Despite the evident fact that this change does not impose less stress on me, the point is this change alone warrants a fresh beginning of sorts for my mindset. Admittedly, I've experienced a paradigm shift in how work is done around here, sticking to different frameworks, workflows and processes. Heck, I've even been answering less phone calls now.

So you see, it is indeed greener grass. Or to rephrase, one man's meat is another man's poison. All that is fresh and new, certainly irks less than what may be overloaded and tedious. Until a year later perhaps?
