Baby Name Advisor

i kope the link from somebody's blog... so here's my take haha...

The name *me* induces a sense of freedom and adventure, risks and rewards, gambling and daring acts of courage. The name has passion and excitement.

One senses that *me* can do anything, is extremely capable, and a true survivor. It is also highly flexible, can adapt to new circumstances quickly, and has excellent reflexes; often, important decisions are made in seconds, seemingly impulsively even. But due to sharp intuition and even sharper intelligence, those decisions are almost always right on the money. Youthful, dynamic and energetic, this name draws people who want things to be "different," and don't like the tried and proven.

Social, outgoing, something skirting the acceptable - or even pushing the envelope of what is legal.

*me*'s most positive characteristics: Productive, dynamic, adaptable. Good at promoting self.

*me*'s most negative characteristics: Can be unorganized, scattered. Lacks direction. Needs maturity and discipline.

the week thus far

doesn't feel like it's going to smoothly for me this week. here's a quick recap, followed by what's still on the menu.

first off, monday gave me a surprise. apart from the usual morning runny nose, i had a flat tyre (left-rear) which i discovered had been there for probably a couple of days. the workshop deemed it irreparable, otherwise it could have gotten patched up at a fraction of the cost. so i'd have to get 2 new tyres instead. why two, you ask? some people think that it'd be cheaper to just get one to replace the flat. but this can cause the vehicle to ride unevenly. this can have an impact on the fuel consumption/body integrity of the car in the long run. so with that said, yes, two tyres. $220 + tax. ouch. also, i'd spent an additional hour after the official lunch hour to get this done. AND i have not had my lunch yet then. ended up with a big pau for my makeshift meal.

tuesday just got started, and i discovered my left wrist and underside of the forearm started breaking out in rashes. itchy. i took zyrtec. i suppose it helped. couple of hours later, like after lunch. it was freaky and itchy to look at. i tried not to scratch and concentrated on my work. it improved by lunch luckily.

the stuff piling up for my work is too much for me to complain about. it's always the same old story. i'll just skip that.

now on to some other business. related to my getting wedded. maybe it's best said in point form...
  1. i think my mum's being an obstacle (refer to points 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
  2. we've been planning for our rom/wedding after i proposed, but not much progress so far
  3. balloting queue for hdb unit is ridiculous, may have to resort to walk-in selection (if any)
  4. the costs for just a solemnisation affair is quite prohibitive
  5. the "auspicious" dates isn't going down well with everyone
  6. we're still undecided on having rom-only first, or the whole shebang altogether
  7. a dictated plan would be to rom at fort canning proper, and catering at home
  8. prepared to get a new daughter-in-law, it seems, someone is not
  9. nitpicking about a whole lot of stuff which can be resolved without much hassle
i'm not going down without a fight, much less let my mum have her way, all the way. even if rachel wants to try and give in, there's still me to try and push over. i'm not too please with my parental units right now, don't tell me that they want what's best for me. i'm no longer the little boy they know ten years ago.

can't wait to move out of here, even though i know i'll have to face paying the bills and everything else on my own. i try to do my filial bit for their empty-nest syndrome but it is a total turn-off whenever the tear ducts are activated midway into conversation.

when my kids (if i do have any) grow up in future, we'll see, but i just might chase them out asap when they reach their twenties. i think that's already old compared to angmoh kids.

Nine-year old whiz-kid writes iPhone application

crap. did i started too slow? kids nowadays are learning at 2yo. and there i was thinking that i was so clever to have been learning how to cycle/swim/skate at 3/4/5yo (and in that order too).

the money

so i gave up returning to the same bank outlet yesterday. i tried going one last time after work before picking rach up. the queue was long, yes, but the deposit service was still not available.

i ended up going to the outlet near my home after buying us dinner in the neigbourhood.

so yes, finally, i'm done depositing the money.

amazing how much i can type just about depositing money into my own bank account eh? i'm surprised too... maybe i just like to complain too much.

bad start = good day?

i whine too much (i know) but this was a bad start to the week/day.

first off, woke up off-sync with my alarm, at about 5.50am. still feeling lethargic but halfway between being awake and asleep, i hit the pillow once more. at least twice. woke up yet again, 6.25am which is 5mins short of my alarm sounding. couldn't really get back into slumberland as i kept waking up to anticipate the alarm. finally 6.30 came and i washed up first, then pressed down on the alarm to re-sound at 6.45 and hit the pillow yet again... well i did wake up then, but i was getting cranky already.

7 came and i was preparing to rush out, when i had a stomachache. bad timing. rather unfortunate but i figured i was going to have to fork out the ERP fee today. so i settled my business and left the house promptly. well the gantry charged $0.50 which wasn't too bad... i think.

since cny was just over, i decided to deposit the spoils of my pillages into the bank. can't do that yet, 'cos the machine isn't going to let me do that. "unable to deposit" my ass... fine. park my car and get to the office. coupons torn correctly, except that a small portion of an unimportant part got torn slightly while i was trying to tear a proper tab. not that i'm a perfectionist, but this didn't feel good since the most part of my day so far hasn't been smoothsailing.

with all that behind me, hopefully the rest of the day will be happier. it can't get any worse, could it? :S

[Edit at the end of the day: well i was right. the day certainly felt better as it progressed, and most of the things i was involved with were mostly peaceful despite my being extremely busy and occupied at work.]
