well alright so i dramatised the title of this post. i tallied up the angpao money i'd received this year and surprisingly it seems to be slightly up from the past. weighing in at 27 red packets, the notes add up to S$268! nice number eh? and this is not including the $50 (halved down from last year) given by my company too.
the number of relatives remained relatively the same. pun intended. so what does this mean? that the lower the economy sinks, the more generous people get? my parents are of course, and my sister-in-law as well as rachel's mum too. but i do see a lot more red ($10) notes than usual.
i'm not sure, but i probably won't have any further income for this festive season anymore after today. maybe just one more...

poly days

jason dug out some old photos so i'd might as well put one up here for posterity. yes, thick-skinned me, i know. totally unglam but true historical fact.
happy niu year!
well okay i know it's getting too cliched to be using that word but hey let the festivities sink into you a bit. in any case, angpao collection this year has been... nominal? who knows, this might be the last time for me to receive any haha! i'm getting so tired lately i think i need more sleep. might be all this aging catching up on me. and my constant delaying of my sleep hours.

S'porean wanted by Interpol in connection with Cortina theft

I must really hand it to this fella. He got away undetected with 7.9mil SGD worth of watches. The radio deejay was making all sorts of pun jokes on the stolen watches this morning... but one check on the news site and I noticed the photo. Of ALL the photos they got hold of, the Interpol had to use one with him showing a V^^ victory sign!? I'm sure they've got more pictures than that of this joker right?
But the watches... OMG sure cost a lot. Although another question I have is, how is he going to get rid of those stolen goods man? Really don't know what was going through his mind wanting to steal like that. With his kid in tow and the stress this is going to put on his mother/stepfather? People ought to think twice more often before taking such drastic action.
more details here too.
Interpol Wanted notice here. I mean seriously... surely his photos can be cropped if they tracked down his ex-wife/parents who may be in town?

importing org.eclipse.swt and alike to project
I did a bit of googling and took a while before I figured out what I was supposed to do. So I'd thought it useful to put this up since a picture paints a thousand words. Having a visual explanation would be handy (even for my forgetful self in future).
Here are the steps:

Here are the steps:

- Click on Configure Build Path...

- In the pop-up that appears, click on Add External JARs...
- Navigate to the destination folder (e.g. eclipse/plugins)
- Select the necessary .jar/.zip file and click Ok

Flemish Giant!
We popped by the Kallang LeisurePark that was recently renovated and re-opened last night. We'd only gone there to pick up a subway each for dinner. But taking a brief stroll around, we found this pet shop in there. They've got on display, a huge rabbit in a cage! Gosh the giant rabbit was humongous! And so were its droppings... =x

food for thought
Had a brief chat with my colleagues about some non-work-related and totally irrelevant stuff about robot vacuum cleaners and rich people living in big houses.
My thoughts wandered thereafter, and one thing lead to another. Which got me wondering: can one get rich and successful in life without a religion?
Do you subscribe to a religion? Regardless of it being orthodox or not, it seems that the people in the news will have a religion of some sort for most parts. I'm pretty sure that this does not apply entirely to the Hollywood circle as that's a different circus act, even if Scientology has shoved its ass into the picture. Maybe I'll set my assumption for this post to be restricted to just Asia/Singapore.
Might there be a chicken and egg issue? Perhaps faith helped in establishing said power, or did the networking with people from the related congregations gave those people an advantage? Or did they needed something to believe in only after they've established themselves?
Can you name one CEO or similar post of a company in Singapore that you know of who is without a religion?
I'm not looking for a religion, but neither am I being an atheist. My curiousity falls on the link between power and faith.
I'm comfortable with being agnostic thus far, so I'm not expecting any "join my religion" or "how dare you" rebuttals, thank you very much.
PS: Corny as it may sound, I don't think "money" is regarded as a religion... right? And don't get me started on "sleeping" (shui jiao) either. >_<"

Mobile Suit Gundam 00
Word trail of the day...
I've been catching new episodes of Gundam 00 from their second season, and seeing that they've been repeatedly using the word (in the fansub) "Feint" in their battle maneuvers, it made me curious enough to go dig further. Although understanding the meaning of the word (as a "false maneuver"), I wanted to dig even deeper. So here's my word trail of the day, courtesy of wikipedia!
Feint > Parthian Shot > Clibanari > Cataphract > Caracole > Cantabrian Circle
Hehe... I know... it's so typical of me to dig deep...
I've got UATs coming on (which I think subconsciously I've been trying to escape from by delaying the user testing with excuses of piling myself with a whole bunch of other work)
Bah... it's going to be a happy new year. I've resolved to work towards a simple new year resolution this time round: start everyday in a happy mood!
We're thinking of setting the ROM date as 8th August, as it seems 9th Sep (9/9/09) falls within the Hungry Ghost month. Parents' suggestion...
