Bereavement Notice

Today marks the passing of Rachel's pet, Xiao Hui (see-ow hu-eh, literally Little Gray in Chinese) who was well loved and cared for. He was about eight years old and was considerably old for his age. Xiao Hui is survived by his spouse and 3 sons, and will also be dearly remembered by Rachel, her mum and yours truly.

He was ill to the state of being unable to stand/sit upright on his own. We had (unwillingly/unbearably) put him to sleep at the vet. He will be joining his father in his passing.

In loving memory of the mischievous and adorable lagomorph... Xiao Hui. :(

darkest hour is before dawn

Grrr... I've got piles of work on top of piles of work at the office. All this even on the eve of my 2-week departure. I'm off for a fortnight of pure revelry in a spa session with a group of burly men. That's right. This spa resort is situated in Seletar and proudly brought to us by the fantastic SAF. They are so nice that, heck, they'd even instructed my company to let me go for their spa package. On top of that, they are compensating my company for my absence! Wow isn't that fantastic?

PS: for those who still don't the joke, I'm going for in-camp training. Yes, as in military conscript.

What Tarot Card are You?

oh yeah bring on the pain! meow~

You are The Chariot

Triumph, Victory, Overcoming Obstacles.

The chariot is one of the most complex cards to define. On its most basic level, it implies war, a struggle, and an eventual, hard-won victory. Either over enemies, obstacles, nature, the beasts inside you, or to just get what you want. But there is a great deal more to it. The charioteer wears emblems of the sun, yet the sign behind this card is the moon. The chariot is all about motion, and yet it is often shown as stationary. It is a union of opposites, like the black and white steeds. They pull in different directions, but must be (and can be!) made to go together in one direction. Control is required over opposing emotions, wants, needs, people, circumstances; bring them together and give them a single direction, your direction. Confidence is also needed and, most especially, motivation. The card can, in fact, indicate new motivation or inspiration, which gets a stagnant situation moving again.

friendster spam

A colleague of mine sent me a peculiar message in friendster. Upon investigation after asking her directly, she said she did not send it. Thus said, I suggested her to change her password for the site before the infiltrator strikes a second time.

feeling victorious!

Yes!!! I'd managed to beat ERP! Finally reaching the gantry in time just now, a few minutes before the lights come on, I felt that waking up ever so earlier worth my 50 cents. Now if only I can keep this up a little while longer...

Apparently there's hardly anybody at the office yet.

List of celebrities I've heard people mention (since primary school till now) that I resemble (fully/partially/at certain angles)

(not Jacky Wu!)

*sigh*

I'm totally like wtf...

HowStuffWorks "Does drinking ice water burn calories?"

Okay so this is probably not a very good solution but it does make some sense. I've been drinking cold water since young despite my mum telling me not to as it'd increase my likelihood of asthmatic attack. And looking at my size... I feel compelled to believe it's true.

Answer: (Artoo)

Going Solo: Roald Dahl

My colleague instantly knew what I was talking about when I mentioned a brief description of this book to me incidentally. I'd forgotten its title until he reminded me. It was a pretty memorable read for me back then... probably in upper primary.

Electrifying ambitions (TODAYonline)

From TODAYonline.
Well now he's done it. A friend of mine made it on to the newspaper (don't believe it's his first) with the article on manufacturing electric vehicles in Singapore.

totally twisted tuesday

An individual at the office replied to my email after I'd helped the person with some bits of work which pretty much irked me very much. The person is kind of a n00b and is known to be very "flowery" in the art of word usage. Like taking a detour to Finland just to get to Changi, my local airport. This totally spoiled my Tuesday. Totally.

Hi Ken,

Thank you very very very much. I have generated both the paymaster files and have sent to them.

Appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Hope you have a great day......

Keep smiling......

Regards

Mind Over Time - research into biological clock reveals possible causes of various ailments

Over the past couple of weeks, I've been trying to adjust my biological clock to wake up ever so slightly earlier each day. Although it doesn't seem very successful yet, I've managed to wake up about 10mins earlier than before on weekdays.

By setting my phone alarm clock to go off initially at 8am, then 7.50am, 7.40am and so on. Of course I know I might not wake up exactly as well, so I've given myself a bit of a leeway. My phone has this function to "postpone" the reminder I've set, 5/10/15minutes at a time. So although I've been lazing off on this feature, I can only do it a maximum of about 5 times before I finally give up pressing the button and get out of bed.

My alarm is set to 7.10am so far, and my postponing has been regularly at about 3-4times with delays of 10-15mins. Interestingly enough, today despite being a Monday, I managed to wake up at 7.30am and was fortunate enough not to have the typical toilet trips I get. Hence I arrived in the office at 8.15am! That's 30mins earlier than usual! (*ahem* yes I'm usually late, regrettably)

Somehow as my experiment has shown, re-configuration of the biological clock does work, with little discomfort and a little determination. The most extreme way I can think of is setting spotlights on my face to go off at 7am every weekday. But that's just taking it too far right?

LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga

Ooh sweet deal! The Lego Star Wars game for Wii is going for a song at Ten Chi! It's one of those console game shops around town. We stumbled upon their branch in United Square. For just S$39.90 we paid for this one game that would otherwise cost S$89 (I spotted in Suntec @ Carrefour) or so! Very good bargain man... we didn't want to get any other games, otherwise it would have been S$99 for 3 games. That's S$33 per game! It's so cheap it's painful to look at.

exhibitionists in the daylight...

I was walking back from the multi-storey car park to my office after lunch just now, when something peculiar came into view.

I'll describe what I saw and let you draw your own conclusion.

There's a playground in the vicinity of the cluster of HDB flats, with benches around it. It was open air, facing a construction site. Nobody else was around except for another (stranger) passer-by and myself, plus this couple at one of the benches.

This article is about the couple. And keep in mind that this is at about 1.40pm in the afternoon. They were both middle-aged. They look like they were from the middle-ages. T-shirt and shorts; common folk.

The guy was seated on the bench, with legs wide opened. The lady was kneeling in front of him, between his legs. As the other passer-by and I was walking past them, the lady propped herself up on her elbows to support her body. But as we walked away, I felt that something was not quite in the picture. I turned around and took a peek at the couple. The lady is now positioned such that her head is faced down, at his belly level. Her hair was hanging down on both sides like curtains.

That's all I could bear to see, so I continued walking. Tsk.

Laptop Lover...

ahem... just for laughs keke...

Javascript bug

Try typing this in your IE/Firefox:

javascript:alert(174.02+10.08);

By right, 174.02 + 10.08 = 184.1

But instead you'll end up with 184.10000000000002!

Crikey, it simply doesn't add up!

(Edit: Of course then we should have a work around in this case. To which, I'd resorted to doing the calculation first, then performing a rounding function on the result. The rounding should chop off the excess to the x decimal point, where x is whatever rocks your boat. I chose 3, since it's one more than the regular dollars and cents.)

Lindt Switzerland - Excellence range

My dear colleague treated me to a piece of the bar of chocolate... without telling me... that it contained 99% cocoa. What an experience. Soooo bitter! OMG.

Malaysian DPM Najib denies role in sodomy charges against Anwar

oh come on seriously people! which politician in his right mind would want to do anything like this while in the run? one would simply abstain to say the least, much less being involved in such controversial acts. whoever (and i'm not saying it's the govt, it could be some other groups) is trying to bring him down has got to be more creative than that. tsk!
