ruby on rails
i can't believe i'm saying this but... i'm excited to try out rails for fun! i guess this is what tech geeks do for kicks haha!
Lunch @ Da Paolo

mmm yummy mushroom and cheese bruschetta...
(yes i know, it's just a slice of baguette topped with diced mushrooms with melted parmesan, but it's yummy nonetheless!)

yup i swear rachie's gonna kill me for putting this up but i find these moments so adorable xD

here i am trying to act attas by sipping tastefully on the red wine. i've forgotten its name but i swear it was good while it lasted... lol

delicious paste presented tastefully in an oversized plate =x

long live yummy food!

foodie rachie gets caught awkwardly unprepared

red wine, with a couple glasses of iced water.

exquisite ambience with hardly a soul in sight... well okay we're seated furthest in. there were a few couples behind us.

and once again... the parting shot! =x

I Can Has Cheezburger?
me phd.
yep i've been piled higher and deeper... in work unfortunately. there's just so much to do and there's just this much time one person can afford to work on stuff with.
in other news, i've been digging deep into this website with broken english. broken because it's supposedly spoken by cats. and other stuff. captioned pics r teh rulez!
will post pics i've procrastinated on since the start of this year soon!

Firefly Chinese
i know there's a lack of updates recently... been a bit pre-occupied of late.
just stumbled upon this article that emphasises on the many colourful uses of the Chinese language, simplified enough that non-Chinese speakers can enunciate the phrases and sound correctly enough.
as some people say, the easiest way to pick up a new language is from the vulgarities...

MacBook Air
woo wee!!! this just launched around my birthday sia... *cough cough* very slim macbook new model haha...
but it seems it comes with a couple of downsides...
but it seems it comes with a couple of downsides...
- external superdrive comes optional (at extra cost)
- appears to have a maximum of 2GB ram (no further upgrades aside from onboard ram)
- external video output adapters (additional accessories to log around)
- battery is sealed and not user-replaceable!?
- lightweight and super slim (for portability, obviously)
- ability to piggyback on other cd/dvd drives on machines in the same network
- backlit via LED that saves more power hence improving battery usage
- option to upgrade harddrive to a solid state disk (64GB however, as opposed to the standard 80GB version)
- multi-touch trackpad (similar to the iphone/ipod touch)
- last but not least, bragging rights to owning a very slim notebook AND a Mac at the same time...

The Work Triangle
Our jobs are built upon a simple model of a triangle. I call this the Work Triangle. Very much like the Fire Triangle, this triangle is in itself a very useful reference to decide for yourself if your job sucks so much that it's time for you to contemplate jumping out of the fire.

The bottom line: if your workload sucks, work environment sucks and there's just too much politicking in the office, you know it's high time you bail out!
Caveat emptor: as people always say, however, you might find yourself jumping out of the fire, into the frying pan. (Okay i know the saying is in reverse - frying pan then fire - I'm just trying to relate to the Fire Triangle, but you'd get the idea...)
