Lenovo (formerly IBM) just launched their latest addition to the X-series! Model X300 is definitely intended to compete with the MacBook Air, going by the timeline they've used to launch theirs. Obviously riding on the wave of a predecessor, I'm pretty sure they planned all this to let the MacBook Air rustle up the hype first. Then they hop right in and show everyone "look we've got something slightly thicker, BUT we have a DVD drive!" don't seem too far fetched to me for that to happen...
The thinner of the 2 would probably still be the Air (plus the X300 is more blocky). But with just a few centimeters thicker, the X300 comes with an optional DVD burner drive! They've also offered to give you enough juice running this baby for 10 hours without plugging in. I believe this is achieved via the optional secondary battery pack that is swappable with the DVD drive.
But heck, it should cost slightly cheaper and it runs Windows. As always, Macs look more visually appealing but for simple office applications I think most people will stick with (unfortunately) Windows to get the job done.
Sadly you can only purchase it on their US site here.

The manhunt is on
Singapore's most wanted! The head honcho of local JI is on the run and the police have setup cordons all over the island to re-capture him.
*cough* This must have been pretty embarrassing for the people who were detaining him...
[Edit: to top it all off, he walks with a freaking limp!!! What else could it be if not an inside job?! How the heck does he run away quickly enough with that limp?]

Fire in shophouse at Lavender

A fire just broke out in the top floor of a shophouse located along Lavender St. The flames were still flicking out the window when I noticed it but the fire fighters arrived soon after. I could see water being sprayed through the open windows by the fire fighters, and the fire was put out soon after. It's now half an hour later, however, and smoke can still be seen billowing from the windows.
Good job that the fire fighters arrived so swiftly!
[Edit: here's the vid I took]

Lydia Sum has passed away
She was 61. May she rest in peace. Fortunately, she did depart quietly. All that was indirectly thanks to Edison Chen. And his truckloads of scandals with a whole lot of female celebrities that were his ex-girlfriends. And their very entertaining photos that leaked out.
Something good did come out of his R21 self-shots afterall!

lucky or suay?
I stepped on dog poo while en route to my office this morning. Would you consider this a lucky sign or a bad omen?
PS: I had to get it washed off in the gents... it smelt pretty badly. Pee-ew!

your money or your life?
which would you rather have?
no, seriously.
it seems the case with our jobs nowadays.
after talking to some people recently, i've gained a bit more understanding into how this works. i think. at least with me gaining a new perspective on the situation. or the buzz word to use... "paradigm".
i don't think i can get too philosophical anyway but here's my rough take: the higher salary you get, the more time you have to spend on your job. i'm sure it's an open secret by now. just that not everyone seems to want to admit it. if you can take (and want) the high stress levels, certain stress-related ailments, pressure, lack of a normal social life and all those other "perks" in order to get a really fantastic pay, by all means go ahead if you are that capable. in army they call this the "risk" allowance. you get paid more, and you get to buy more fancy stuff. in exchange, they'll get take your life and soul, and before you know it, you'll be a 40-year-old single/divorced senior management driving an expensive car... yet feeling a sort of emptiness in you whenever you dine.
i'm not sure how this will work out for me, but for now, i'm with the rest of you. we're the normal medium tier employees just doing our job. sure, we'll get performance reviews in some way or another, but it is an established fact that if you follow the money, you'll get more of it. along with the pressure with handling it so upclose. some people relish in this i'll bet. i'm just not sure if i can handle it if the time ever comes for me to take up this challenge...
okay i know i'm rambling on and on and you have no idea what i'm talking about half of the time. no matter. it's all summed up in the title.
i choose life. for now...

Lunch at Waraku

all our standard fare:
- salmon sashimi,
- chawanmushi,
- hotate & cheese cream udon,
- gindara teriyaki,
- ebi tempura... etc...
so yes despite the backlog, i'd enjoyed my food... 3 meals in fact for my birthday... Da Paolo, Bonta and Waraku!
Lunch at Bontá

you can't miss it! it's at UE Square, roughly across from where Double-O is sited.

I rather enjoy doing panoramic shots with my phone...

the appetiser: smoked salmon with alfafa and other exotic crunchy vegetables

chunky wild mushroom soup, quite a huge bowl of it too, alongside a piece of nutty muffin.

told ya it was chunky!

looking around, checking out the décor...

feeling hungry already...

getting bored... that makes both of us.

nice lighting though.

me. obviously very much amused (not) from the wait.

rachel's first attempt at panoramic shots on my phone!

sorry we didn't take more shots of the main course. too hungry. well here's the dessert.

check out the ooziness!!!

all that oozing!!! all the chocolate! oh the humanity!

okay let's pull you back into reality.

yea it's no longer oozing. it's gushing now!!!

bwahaha...

okay i know i'm getting overboard with this. but check out the liquor-enhanced ice cream beside it!

lunch time was almost over...

i know how this looks, but i assure you we did not book the whole place haha xD
the food was very yummy. the ambience was pretty much classy. all this on the eve of my birthday!!! thanks to my rachie~ keke
