Pope's exorcist squads will wage war on Satan

blimey... i'm not all to be blasphemous but THIS is kinda stretching it... they might do better with things like making in-roads into placing in-game advertisements in Hellgate: London and the like.

at least the players will pay better attention since they're killing demons and necros anyway. hey if even the US Army can come up with a first-person shooter to promote their cause, i don't see why can't the Vatican doing something similar... you've got to go with the times every now and then...

just a thought. don't blast me on this one.

company santa

i felt ridiculous for close to 2 hours, but yup, i was santa for an afternoon. and an MC no less! when push came to shove in our last minute christmas partee (party + committee = partee hahaha)
, i semi-voluntarily took the role of being the pivotal role in this event. we had like barely 2 weeks to prepare!

in any case, i must say, being santa is hard work! sweaty and doesn't taste nice. because i had to chew on the cotton moustache as i spoke. they just stuck to my dry lips and gradually slipped into my mouth! bleah...

people were all curious how i got my belly since this is the utterly slimmest santa they've had laid their eyes on ever. my waist pouch did help with the belly, since i wouldn't dare ask the new CEO to be the santa, although he might seem more fitting for the job because he had more "fen liang" than me. hah!

but oh it was fun while it lasted. somebody HAD to get everyone else in the mood for the festive season right?

i'll put up the photos of the event when i get my ho-ho-hands on them.

what are /you/ looking at?

My department's Christmas gift exchange... and look what I got! bwahahaha!!! Coincidentally, I didn't realise my rabbid was checking out my bag of Doritos until my colleague told me about it.

one of my fav is in town!

Hurray! My favourite brand of potato chips I'd last eaten fervently down under was last spotted in the basement supermarket at Raffles City at long last!

Lessons in life Ticket#200712071116: Importing vCards (.vcf) into outlook

I have Outlook 2003 on my Vista Business at work. And it's a pain to import my contacts via vCards in vcf format into it.

I did some research and a lot of people have a lot of opinions on how to go about importing multiple contacts. There's a plugin for Outlook made by some company, but that's gonna cost.

Anyway, here's my problem. I had a list of .vcf files I'd backed up from my N80 mobile. Dragging all of them into Outlook warrants a disaster, in which appears one pop-up for every vCard I had. Not very elegant.

So how did I get my way around this? I made use of .csv that's how! The drawback is that not all the data is directly reusable but it's a start.
- Go to Command Prompt and type in "copy *.vcf somename.csv" to merge all the files (in one folder)
- Open up in a text editor capable of search and replace on linebreaks (I used NoteTab)
- Type the first line in as the header fields you want to have (based on your Outlook fields) for example:
"Name","Home Phone","Mobile Phone"
- Search and replace the unnecessary stuff throughout the files with minor tweaks here and there
- Make sure every field is double-quotes-enclosed
- Save the csv file

Now you can load in the file to Outlook!
- Go to Outlook > File menu > Import and Export...
- Select Import from another program or file (and click Next)
- Select Comma Separated Values (Windows) (and click Next)
- Locate the csv file you've just created for File to import
- Choose your options (I prefer to Do not import duplicate items)
- Select your contacts
- Click Map Custom Fields and do your thing there, checking that the mappings are correct, then click OK
- Click Finish and you are done!

The above is probably useful if your vCards only have phone number information and not much else besides their names. Anything more will be too much of a hassle on the text manipulation part.

hope it doesn't get too buggy

i'm working on a photo montage for my sister's wedding.

and i'm doing it in flash. since this is my first time using ActionScript 3.0 and utilising Flash after a very long hiatus, please wish me luck on this expedition.

i'd been taking my time to do it but now it seems i have to start rushing as the date is drawing near. i want to make the photos appear randomly and with random transitions using ActionScript. seems that i can handle it okay enough so far, since it's similar to JavaScript but let's just hope for the best!

Bus-fi in sg by Nokia

nokia is doing good once again!

if you see the buses around town, you can either hop on to it or trail it in a car and start surfing in a few clicks!

singapore most likely isn't the first country in the world to do so though. even in asia there's already other countries who'd beat us to it.

but no matter, considering this is a free initiative by our dear big-ass scandinavian company. and on top of that, they're using HSDPA , something similar to the broadband service from M1. i'm not too sure who's the service provider behind nokia's equipment (there's only the handful) but i don't think the bandwidth for these babies come cheap.

in any case, if you see it, please make full use of it. at least in a few (i'm guessing 3 or 6) months' time, when they tabulate the logging-in sessions in this exercise, i hope they'd get plenty of numbers. this will help get us wifi all over the place on public transport! sure beats having just wireless@sg at smaller areas!

M1 3G Video Calls

I know this might be a bit slow on the news but it's good news nonetheless.

M1 is having this promo in which M1 users can call other M1 users via video calls and have the first 5mins free!

you just got punked!

some telemarketer just called. the number came up as "Unknown" on my caller ID.

first thing i said after "hello" was... "watashi wa nihongo desu" (i'm japanese)... yes yes i know, technically it should have been "nihonjin desu" (i'm japanese person) because the former refers to the japanese language. but who cares, as long the lady on the phone (sounds like she's from china anyway) can't understand me.

then i proceeded to say stuff like i don't understand english, "sorry, me no speek inglish" and so on... so haha! she got punked!

she got confused mumbling to herself in chinese "but this number... (mumbles my number) ... is correct..." and then she promptly gave up communicating with me and hung up.

*cue lollercopter*

boku no tame ni, bokutachi no tame ni...

my darling rach is doing something very challenging and difficult right now. i really appreciate your deciding on this and i'm going to go through this together with you... :)

i'm not going to give her any sort of emotional blackmail (which is oxymoron enough when i actually specify this out...) but i believe she'll be able to go through with it! xD

and we just got the rayman raving rabbids 2! it's loads of fun! and yes we'd do best playing through it s...l...o...w...l...y... since it's pretty costly. but it's fun nonetheless. the shooting arcade game involves real live footage of places around various parts of the world! they even hired human actors to play along in the invasion of the rabbids by being attacked and pounced upon by those nasty (but dumb) little creatures.

and i'm waaaay behind schedule on my work. didn't help even though i brought work home to do...
