have you noticed? i did. these days, the winds are so big everywhere i go (which is mostly central or eastern parts of singapore) it doesn't really feel like we're in the tropics. it's actually cooling when the wind blows. strange but true. in a good sort of way of course.
work's been a killer since monday. let's hope i pull through till friday for yet another weekend. i need a haircut. unless i intend to have a ridiculous change of hairstyle and go moped or something. haha...
and about that bluetooth dongle i bought? i've been plugging it into my printers. just now, to print something for rach, i had it connected to my photosmart 3110 all-in-one and i could print direct from bluetooth to bluetooth without the need for the desktop pc the printer is actually connected to! of course the downside is that this way is much slower. i wonder if i were to try its scanning feature... hrmm... i'll leave that to another day. heh... one slight drawback also, is that the bluetooth dongle actually has a shorter distance limit compared to my other one. so i'm not sure if i were to say have my laptop with a 100m bluetooth dongle 2 rooms away will it be able to communicate with the 10m dongle on the printer? =.= the problem with technology is, if both dongles have different specs, which one should i rely on? bleah these are philosophical questions i'm never hoping to answer just yet haha...
*my rach is a very good mediator xD*

my pointless little quest
*WARNING: GEEKY TECH POST*
yes i was actually on a pointless little quest for the past weeks. i've been trying to locate and purchase a little item that is more of a technological gadget than anything. it's in fact a humble bluetooth dongle. it'd seem like there's nothing special about it at first glance, i know. but i'll have you know that, the first bluetooth dongle i'd bought before (which is frankly the smallest piece of gadget i have in my keypouch that i bring along with me everywhere i go) is somewhat different from this one i'd been looking for. that's because it was built with the firmware from IVT Corp. suppose you might have heard of them and their BlueSoleil software before. the short of it is, the devices having their BlueSoleil firmware built into them are not compatible with the widcomm (now known as broadcom/billionton) and microsoft version. the latter 2 amazingly seem to be compatible somehow.
so the whole point of my search for this elusive bluetooth having widcomm/microsoft firmware? i'd wanted to plug the bluetooth dongle into my printers (both HP printers are amazingly bluetooth-enabled) so that i can print direct from our phones straight to them! all that, without the need for any desktop/laptop computers as proxies!
i've been to sim lim square to source for this object of *cough* desire for several times during lunch hour now, but i've finally managed to find it. we were out and about at that techie's haven this afternoon, and after some ambiguous finds, we finally chanced upon one candidate! the first how i managed to figure out all this was while i did my homework on the subject. my first bluetooth dongle was using the IVT's BlueSoleil software on my computer, whereas my brother's dongle had this affinity with WinXP such that the OS seemed to have a driver built-in for it. that made a difference when i plugged in both the dongles into my printer as it seemed the printer preferred my brother's dongle very much than my own. *ahem i digressed* i also had a colleague that was using something quite similar, in that his bluetooth also played nice with Windows without the need for an extra software, and that his was an OEM of this manufacturer named Billionton that strangely was using the microsoft firmware for their bluetooth. and stranger still, i decided to take the chance and get it just for that reason.
i'm glad now that i did. because it works! and whilst being on my little mission, i manage to learn just that little bit more about bluetooth that i would have without. ^^;;
on a less geeky note, i'm proud of rachie =x because she took her first attempt at making cookies today. and although it was somehow a failed experiment, the better ones were quite cookie-ishly crunchy! =D

conflicting thoughts about work
what can i say? i must admit i'm still enjoying the programming bits of my job. needless to say, with the perks come the price. handling users, maintaining legacy codes and squishing bugs (new and old) are just some of the things that cause painus-in-the-assus. being myself at work, i end up having a tendency to blurt out random cold jokes sometimes. but then again, as what one other colleague of mine (who also tell random cold jokes out of the blue) how doing this keeps us sane and frolicking with enjoyment in our half-suffering. it almost seems like a necessary evil we can't do without.
Javascript appears recently to be the old-kid-on-the-block-that-is-new. thanks to Ajax, XHRs (XMLHttpRequest's), CSS and dHTML. i dare say i do feel proud to be somewhat familiar with this platform. although quite embarrassingly, i've only recently discovered the Microsoft Script Debugger which is really quite useful, especially if debugging is required in IE. i've got the FireBug Javascript debugger extension installed for my FireFox, but when IE is the de-facto browser for our in-house applications, it's inevitable to have to debug in IE without the help of FF. speaking of which, i recently rediscovered this hacking academy site which i'd been to few years back. was fun. you should try it! (only for the geek-hearted)

changes in the story
remember that sticky situation our maid got into? appears there was miscommunication in the people telling the story. will post more when i can. deadbeat now. will be going for RT (remedial training) with our dear military establishment in a few months as i'd failed my previous "window". think i'll train up before that anyway. reduces the pain, in more ways than one.

drama weekend
My maid has to be sent back home.
And it's not her fault.
According to our maid, there was this freaky guy (whom i've never seen before) that's been practically stalking her from her previous employment, to her home in indonesia (asking for her dad for her hand in marriage as the second wife =.=) to our place now.
The worse part is, she went to try and plea with the wife for help. But the wife turned postal and called us up to say she'd made a police report accusing our maid of having stolen her jewellery and stuff (how silly is that, our maid hardly leaves our house!). And how she wants to come over to beat her up.
Of course we won't let her do anything like that (would you?!) at our place and we'd warned her we'd get the police over if she came without the police. Ending of the story? For her safety, we have resorted to sending our maid back home. The crazy woman was still harassing her yesterday or something... but my parents would prefer to have less trouble and send her home instead.
The trouble is, come CNY, we're going to have one pair of hands less to tend to our guests. And our household chores will have to be done by ourselves. Not that I mind. We'd been doing that before we started hiring maids. Dumb crazy woman who can't rein in her husband properly...@#$%
On a lighter note, Rachel and I had been fooling around in the kitchen *cough*. On pineapple tarts lah! We baked these (okay she did, I helped) little pineapple tarts for fun and they tasted quite lovely too! ^^ We were drop dead tired by the time we were done after about 3 hours of slogging but it was fun haha...
And check this out! Just saw this on channel 52 and they mentioned this. It's kind of cool to know that my ancestors (my parents were pretty sure of that) dated all the way back to the days in China having lived in this structure they termed as the "Gan Family's Big Garden" supposedly having 99.5 rooms. I think the 0.5 is just for the effect of having so many rooms in the first place. AND apparently the reason they could build such a building is because at some point in time somebody in the family was actually an official with the royal court or something. Real freaky!
*yummy home-made pineapple tarts!*

community service
i know it's my birthday today and i'm feeling quite happy. my colleagues were all more than happy to have a meal out, and my lunch was on them! hehe ok so we do have this bit of a custom going around in our department to treat whoever's birthday was just around at that time. and thanks to friendster to say the least, people i hardly talk to actually bothered to send me well wishes... haha... a good thing ya? at least people around still notice that i'm still alive and kicking.
not forgetting, rachel who baked me a cake on sunday, which totally caught me by surprise. this birthday came and went without (too much) fanfare, but it was still an interesting one nonetheless.
as a good deed, i've decided today (well actually it was 2 days ago but i procrastinated on blogging until now) that i'm going to share some knowledge with everyone. of course this knowledge isn't from yours truly but i just happen to stumble upon it and thought that it's a good idea to raise its awareness.
the topic is here. have you heard of Tourette's syndrome? good for you if you have. but if you haven't, don't worry it's nothing serious. it describes how some people have little quirks called tics, in which these people do or say something that seems uncontrollable but (according to the wiki) rather voluntary. how i started on looking this condition up was because i was wondering what it's about while reading FHM (so you see, it's an educational read) and after seeing its definition you can say i almost immediately wondered if i have any tics of my own. it's no terminal illness, but it's probably one of those little annoyances in life. but of course, not as nearly annoying as my (self-diagnosed) IBS. well okay that's it for my brief introduction of what Tourette's syndrome is about. go read up on it yourself if you want to find out more (not implying that you are suspecting yourself to having it) and take care if you really do.
and about my irritable bowel syndrome... some friends proposed might i be having some sort of an anxiety attack. i don't know how other people deal with their stress factors but my digestive system sure seems to be twisted in pulling a fast one on me this way. guess i'll have to live with it or deal with it some how. do let me know if you have any (constructive) suggestions on a possible remedy, thanks.
oh by the way, bet you didn't know it was teacher's day in thailand every Jan 16th!
*awww -sayang- my rach is flu-ish*

what i had for lunch...

i had 3 frigging plates of salmon sashimi of that portion! i took them like no tomorrow it was so yummy omg... :x *ahem* that smallish pile was actually seabass sashimi. unique, as i'd previously been tasting salmon. but the salmon was wonderful! i guess i'd recovered my share of the per pax price we had to pay by the 2nd plate. but i'd also had some baked potato (with the skins still on), some seafood omelette, chocolate cake, chocolate fondue marshmallow, baked chicken wrapped in pandan leaves... i guess i'd had my fill. and fortunately the raw salmon was fresh (i think) so despite my parents worrying for me i felt fine. *ahem* i believe everyone in the family enjoyed themselves. everyone went, less rachie cos she was feeling sick :(
well she wasn't really sick. she lied that she went to see the doctor. turns out she went to buy an oven and baked me a birthday cake!!! awwwwwwww she was so sweet~ and the cake was sweet too, chocolate pound cake, chocolate mmm... and it tasted better than when i was helping out xD
but hey i didn't fall behind too far either ok! i made us a calendar each! xD

hehe it's got our birthdays on it and the major public holidays in sg... AND it also has this stand to support it behind. :P
*thanks for the cake! and don't forget about the surprise :P*

new year resolutions
i've given it some thought and below are the first few items that came to my mind. i wouldn't rate them any more difficult than having proper meals daily but it's a start nonetheless. :)
6. wishing for world peace...
what's your new year resolution like?
*boo!*
- find ways to try and shit less often (at inappropriate/"critical" times)
- maintain driving @ a max rpm of 2000 - 2500 as much as possible
- keep up the good work of budgeting/managing my money
- do not ever ever ever EVER be in debt (none so far but just a gentle reminder)
- remember often that human relations (aka family ties/friendship) is the most important thing in the world!

what's your new year resolution like?

i repeat...
i can see the light at the end of the tunnel...
just that i'm crawling at snail's pace to reach it.
at least i managed to solve a major pain in the ass on friday.
speaking of major pain in the ass, i will next write about my shit problem. feel free to stop reading this post if you think you'll be disgusted easily.
my tummy has been staging plenty of rebellions of late. maybe it's time for me to visit the doctor about it. i've heard of Irritable Bowel Syndrome but this is ridiculous! my problem is this: i get the shits. often. often at times when i have to leave the house, or relocate to a different venue. so from Point A to Point B i suffer as i bear with the agony of reaching the location on time or having to take detours to relieve myself... more than once. ugh. very inconvenient.
the more regular occurences? moments just before i leave home for work. and late at night when i have to send my girl back to her home.
my plan of attack for now is probably to
hey why do you think i started calling myself muffypoo? xD the muffled agonies of shit wanting to get out of course... so do take me literally when i say i'm full of shit okay?
*thanks for your support and understanding dear*

- try and bear with the agony as much as i can so as to reach my destinations without making any unplanned stops.
- eat lesser during meals
- less junk food
- try and clear my bowels ahead of time (whatever the means... it could be like hours before i get on the road it'd be a miracle to be able to achieve this easily...)
- avoid food that may aggravate, e.g. laksa, curry, tom yum-flavoured stuff etc...

happy new year!
oh yes it's been a short hiatus over the weekend. i took leave on friday and it's been a super duper long holiday. here's wishing everyone a happy new year and may all your resolutions come true. well ok i know most people can hardly keep their resolutions, but we all try our best don't we ;)
my darling... for this holiday, she'd made me realise parts of me i didn't even know about. she's a really special individual... xD i haven't been in top condition for most of the times but she's been sticking to me nevertheless. our countdown was spent in the car on the way home from the doc's :( sorry sweetie.
in other aspects, we've been keeping super late nights for the past days... blame the 24hour shopping that is mustafa haha... and their faulty subwoofer power socket too... >_>
*you're the best!*
