ok i finally caught the bug of run-in-the-dead-of-the-night-till-you-drop-dead off of jason+terence somehow...
i just came back from a run. around my neighborhood. it didn't quite feel like 2.4km but it's a start. if i make it routine enough i could probably work something out of this! remember how i gave options of running times? i suppose if i were to run right after work, i'd really feel hungry from a day's work. and i can't possibly be running on empty unless i want to be hospitalised. neither can i run right after dinner unless i want to have a second helping. so several hours after dinner seem like a pretty good choice. on top of the fact that i'd be using up the final drops of energy i have for the day before hitting the bed for a recharge.
and i'm feeling like a emergency hotline at work, fighting fire as much as i can. not that i don't have a choice, but it seems so natural to want to clear those stuff asap! it's in my blood to troubleshoot i believe... keke...

considerations
other than scouting for locations for my running routes, i'd been also considering the timing. i don't mean how fast i can run (very slowly, that's for sure) but rather at what time of the day should i run.
we just bought the set of vcd's today to watch. it's for the korean drama recently on tv called "my name is sam soon" which i/we find pretty hilarious and sweet even at times. nice show i must say. commendable job on the script with little details. from the initial few episodes for example, the sam soon won a piggy soft toy which eventually was used a part of the punchline in which... ah... better not spoil the storyline for you guys out there kekeke... =x
oh and i decided to revive my acer lappy as a "desktop replacement" of sorts. my linux box has been relinquished of its duty and the acer lappy has since taken over. it'll do, for a simple solution to web browsing and maybe a bit of light irc-ing. it's definitely quieter compared to my noisy linux. not that it's linux's fault. just my old machine with noisy old fans.
*thanks for being here...*
- running before work? means i'll have to wake up earlier. and probably sleeping earlier.
- running during weekends? more time, but might not wake up in time. might have other things to do that's more interesting =x
- after work? might be too lethargic or basically hungry.
- at the end of the day? hmm if i can run until i get tired, head home for a shower and right to bed after that, might not be a bad idea.

running
this will just simply bore your socks off.
seriously.
i'm just planning for own sake/information.
i'd been considering running routes around my area. i took a short detour coming home just now and looking at google maps i suppose i might have spotted two good running routes! i did some rough measurements on google maps just, but i'll measure again when i can drive around the block. the first route i saw was around a cluster of hdb blocks nearby. less likely to get traffic if i can run on the pedestrian pavement right? i figure that route is about 2km or less (from driving around it partially) and then i did an estimation to notice that in fact the cluster surrounding my home (aka pavement with no major road arteries) is about 1.2km... this means i can aim to run around the block twice and it'd be just about right for 2.4km! i'll confirm the distance again when i can. i'm aiming to be able to run home from work in future. 4.5km isn't a short distance to run home on so i can probably do with a variety of routes to run on a shorter path before hitting that far. i might sound crazy but i'm not ruling out the possibility of waking up earlier and doing the brief run before going to work. seems like fun. sadistic yes. but seems fun nevertheless.
it may seem like i'm doing all this planning but never really getting down to the actual running. but i guess it's good to be well-prepared beforehand. hope i'll execute this in the short term...
i realise the biorhythms of people around me are kinda down recently. is it the weather? some cosmic rays? a solar storm? movements of the teutonic plates? i wonder why... hope their biorhythms pick up soon enough! i know it doesn't feel good to be simply down. but if you never have felt sadness before, how then would you know what happiness is right? xD

N80 Battery Duration Test - All About Symbian Forums
i finally found the problem bugging me for today. my wireless lan was in a constantly detecting mode, which probably explains why i charged it in the morning only to find it low on battery juice by the time i knock off just now. lets see if the situation improves now that i've disabled the wlan.

lots in plan
wonder if any of it will be in place though.
first off, i have a number of computers at home.
my tech talk aside, i'd recently done some calculations. the distance between my office and home is about 4.5km... i'm considering the option of running home from work occasionally. just a thought, no idea if i'll implement it eventually. of course i'd hope to, in lieu of my training for ippt by the end of this window to get a pass (before my next birthday). i could get changed after work and run home. of course my priority is to train up my stamina. but the by-product (sic) also includes saving money as a result of not taking public transport.
here's one even sillier idea. wireless webcams placed around my home, more crucially facing the doorbell/gate so that people in the house can see who's come visiting. pointless it seems, but seems like such a fun project.
i kept bringing up the idea of building a desktop pc casing in the shape of r2d2 (or did i not?) but i'd been procrastinating. so anyway, case in point, just a note to myself here probably. i noticed one day as i headed towards sim lim square for lunch during work (by bus no less) that for sale at a shop by the road were barrels! yes! blue barrels meant for holding fish or whatnot that seemed the perfect size! oh wow i'm all excited just thinking about it. might be a pretty convenient way to execute the plan...
gosh i've not been having blogger's diarrhoea for sometime now. to think i crapped all those out. ahh... i feel better now.
i just fixed some figures at work which at last shows what we wanted. i think i'm goofing off at work (which is bad!) but at the same time i have so much things to do... which obviously i don't feel motivated to get started on. there's this report that's been nagging at me to be completed but other stuff keep slipping in unknowingly. sigh...

first off, i have a number of computers at home.
- my ibm thinkpad that i'm using quite happily
- a pentium 4 desktop
- a pentium 2 333Mhz (i think) Acer Travelmate laptop, my previous lappy
- a pentium 2 350Mhz desktop (was it because of the additional RAM?) which i swear was originally known to be a 300Mhz
- another pc courtesy of rach which i think might be going home soon?
- the xbox

yosh!
be prepared for a tough week ahead... at work. i'll be expecting a quite a load of work to rack my brains on. will do my best nonetheless... the weekend was above my expectations, but it is typical of being with rachie... xD i don't think i'd mentioned my date with my old guy friend on friday (yelch!) but it's good to catch up like that sometimes haha... although the fact behind it is that both our partners were busy with their friends. sad but true. =x bah... no worries. we're close, but not brokeback-close. eew! no way!
oh and i got a new phone thanks to my darling! =x
*thanks darling! love it!*

Planex Print/Scan Server
i'd been looking around for something like this! it supports MFPs! ah sorry, fyi MFP stands for Multi-Function Printers. although technically speaking if it is multi-functioned it might not be a printer to start with... xD any comments on this?

work is freaky. i screwed up some stuff somehow but the damage control has been in place. the client isn't too happy but we're getting things moving anyway. we call this a "teething problem" because in a way the situation became this way due to the short notification period for us to prepare the environment for them. -sigh-
oh well i had a free lunch. the company had organised a talk on cancer awareness. yep, it was held during lunch and they provided a meal from subway. six inches of a sandwich, canned drinks and chips/cookies for participants. i was actually thick-skinned enough to ask to be "signed up" last minute.

in other news... first day back to work today. and i was already piled up in work! fortunately i managed to resolve most of it before hitting the rush hour train home.
ahh... the difference between civilian work life and military slackness...

i'd been having a bit of a problem with my hp multi-function centre printer (printer courtesy of my rachie xD ) interfacing with my desktop (it works fine with my laptop!) so i haven't been able to properly get things printed from my desktop thus far. i just managed to find the cause of my problem so i thought i should just log it here as a bit of a reference for myself in future, or otherwise anyone else who may come across this problem. i couldn't really find any indications of this problem anywhere else online even with the help of google.
ok so my fix is very simple. under the list of ports for the printer (right clicking on the printer in winxp followed by the Properties selection brings up this list in the 3rd tab)

see that DOT4_001? i have that and the USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB) checked. so i randomly decided to uncheck that DOT4_001 just to see what happens.
i then tried printing a test page (it'd fail usually) and lo and behold, it worked!
to think the obvious solution was staring me in the face and i couldn't figure it out for so long! (close to 3 months!)

case in point, i quote a paragraph "...For example, that day in the chat, someone called "Bagwhore" entered the chat, and another chatter, some close-minded toot, announced "Omg that a vulgar nick! Please kick this person!"..."
awww... guess who she was referring to... no prizes tho ;)

happy birthday singapore!
i'm definitely less than enthusiastic right now. i'm deadbeat. i can't believe i actually chose to make my way out of the vicinity of the stadium all the way to rachel's block... on my pair of blades! i took a break, had a drink and a short chat with my darling before catching a cab home from her place. it'd be a challenge to catch a cab or any other public transport from the stadium direct. the crowd is still around at 10pm! i'll post the photos i took on my phone when i wake up. i'd inevitably sat thru the whole event; thru the marching contingents in the parade, the aerial display, the dancing formations and the fireworks... but hey i'm working you know... to work on a public holiday is never a good thing. but fortunately i can relax tomorrow. V^_^

bladi blah blah
it's the end of another week in my li'l chalet. can't say it's been hectic but i sure am enjoying myself so far xD gotta sleep early. lima foxtrot in the morning. my weekend's been peaceful nonetheless. so it's a good thing. planning to bring my blades along with me come wednesday. so i can get out of that area fast, late at night, where the crowds might have yet to be dispersed, and the roads are jammed with cars leaving the event.

Mitsubishi Concept-X meets WRC - Autoblog
ooh... i dunno about anyone else but i like this design. but then again will have to expect a tamer version on the stock lancers.
loving it
ok i know i was feeling angry but it's the thought that counts. rach got me a watch that i'd vehemently objected to. she got it for me regardless. and i got angry at that... things happened, things were sorted out, and for now, thanks dear i love the new watch.
i'm not fashionista so if my rach thinks the watch looks good on me, it probably does.
i hope everyone has no hard feelings about friday. or my imagination would run wild and i'd start believing it's my fault for the situation.
*my first donna...*

uh... ok so it's lame. but thanks anyway shan. lol...
still surviving
yea my in-camp training had been going on pretty smoothly. but then again it's still just the second day of the carnage. we were taking it pretty laid back so far. it's so amusing to see the vast difference in attitudes of the active and "operationally-ready" fellas. we're definitely more slack, sad to say. but life is good. the amount of freedom we have feels great. i guess it's part of the army culture... hehe...
