gahhhh!!!

i shan't mention work. it's hectic.

i came home at like 7 after work, and almost immediately after my dinner, i started my search. i was trying to dig something that has been out of sight for the past 1.5 years already. something that was from my army daze days. something that cannot be bought outside easily. just what was this thing i was looking for?

a badge. a freaking badge that goes on the no. 4 shirt above my left breast pocket. it was crazy i'm telling you! i'd been trying to find it for the past 2 days to no avail!

so i was continuing my search after my meal. i searched high and low, and high and low for it, but i couldn't find it. then i suspected that if i can find the new army black duffel bag i brought back from camp i might just find it. but that one heck of a large suitcase with wheels was nowhere to be found!!! goodness. such a huge bag and we couldn't find it. must have been blind somehow. my mum jumped in on the act, and so did my dad (who promptly gave up quickly to watch his tele) and still nothing was found.

then i saw our maid so i just thought i'd ask her. why yes! she did see the bag i described! so where was it? in her room (aka the store room). -_-" and who asked her to keep it there (up in the storage shelves)? my dad. who couldn't recall a thing about it. and why did i not spot the bag despite searching there more than once? i was looking out for a black bag. but it was wrapped in a white plastic bag. *pulls hair*

ok so i dug the bag out, and with it, was another smaller bag. yes! this smaller bag had the stuff i was looking (and not looking) for that's all related to my ns stuff! and of course it had my badge too! yay!!! at long bloody last it was found! and by now... i'm already sweaty, hot and flustered, and actually tired from running up and down in my quest for the missing badge. i guess the dinner i just had would probably have been used up as energy. or something like that.

i'm pretty sure my siblings who were seated in the living room watching the tele were probably wondering if i'd gone mad, searching for something that doesn't exist, until i finally manage to find that item of course... -sigh- at least i'm finally done finding! can rest easier tonight...

the patient's condition has improved

the doctor has attended to the patient and it appears that the patient is better now. thanks sweetie... but i do believe the situation still warrants monitoring. the surgery may well have brought this patient out of possibly critical condition but there is still a chance this may turn unstable. by golly i think this is a mental case.

just like out of a medi drama series on the tele. minus all those extras, camera crew, wardrobe and stylists.

*crazy*

smile ken, smile.

feels like...

hi, and welcome to another pointless post.

the fisherman who fishes without a bait; the opportunity will surrender itself when the time is right.

anyone heard about the COE being decidedly on the chopping board, ready to be scrapped? neither have i, really. i heard it from a friend. but i don't know how reliable the source is. although i must admit personally i'd think it a low chance of happening ever.

it's another bout of i-have-a-lot-to-think-but-nothing-comes-to-mind-when-i-open-my-mouth season. it's true! but maybe i'm just feeling tired from work and when i'm not concentrating a flurry of thoughts would fill up my tired mind, neurons working overtime but pointlessly. my very bad habit is i like to rant. so what happens when i have that habit yet not wanting to burden anyone with the inane idea of listening to pointless talk? i blog. am i going crazy? or is it really that i have so much emotions that i can't put to words?

i just feel so alone all of a sudden...

it's all about me me me i guess...

many apologies

my colleague's wedding... we didn't attend for reasons beyond plausible explanation now. must have been a grand affair. nobody is to blame for it, well there is but let's not go there.

i do believe i'm feeling mellow currently. but then i only hope to share the burden in any way i can, not add. in all goodness i would only wish to confess that, not everything needs to be spelt out. like the chinese proverb that goes "yi qie jin zai bu yan zhong" or was it just a title of a song... either way, things done on the sly should not be mistakenly be though of as bad, because as soon as you chance upon finding out the real deal, it's the thought that counts no matter how small the help is. darn i realise i like to speak in riddles. but a few of those phrases had simply been floating in my mind so i'm just to pour them out here without anyone else really understanding my thoughts in true essence.

i just finally fixed my desktop pc. everything's done up quite back to normal. and i also recommend this mublinder to people who may find it useful... read up on what it does as a Windows Updates Blinder on their homepage. no joke, it's their official site.

may the force be with you tomorrow.

*i'm here for you*

-sigh-

it seemed there'd been quite a lot of stuff that had happened recently. i'm equally worried... so sorry... -sigh-

that said, one of the more hectic things that occurred today was... mob. >_> yes i paid a short visit back to where i was a full time national slave. i had everything packed and ready to go save for searching and rummaging around at home for some more stuff. ok so it was nostalgic. i met those people i haven't seen for some time. ah well... didn't take too long.

Riddle of the Pyramid

i think i'd mention this club before. this fella managed to dig up more stuff on them. the elite of this little bustling city are a part of the club. yet it's presence is practically invisible. the article i'd think actually adds more mystery to the matter albeit unravelling more clues to what the pyramid club is really...

i hope this isn't considered plagiarising, but hey i think i've found the author to this article!

South China Morning Post
August 31, 2001
Jake Lloyd-Smith

GOH CHOK TONG, Singapore's Prime Minister, wanted to throw a special kind of party. The task at hand was to pay tribute to a group of politicians who had served the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) in parliament but were required to stand aside to allow the introduction of fresh faces.

The evening was meant to be memorable and required a venue to match. Mr Goh chose the Pyramid, an elegant colonial-era mansion a short distance from the city-state's main shopping district along Orchard Road. The 140-strong audience enjoyed prawn and salmon salad starters, followed by abalone and shark's fin soup that night in May 1997, the local paper reported.

The snippet is one of just a handful of mentions in recent years of one of the more important but least-familiar parts of Singapore's formidably successful establishment. The Pyramid is the after-hours home for more than 300 of the country's top movers and shakers, and anyone who is anyone is said to be a member.

In its well-tended grounds and tranquil rooms, leading civil servants, politicians, businessmen and senior military officers meet to exchange news, develop friendships and, in effect, bind the country's decision-makers more closely together. 'It's where the real action in Singapore takes place,' one non-member suggests.

Although the Pyramid's membership list might read like a Who's Who of Singapore, the institution goes out of its way not to attract attention.

There is no listing in the phone book and no existence in cyberspace beyond a few mentions by outside contractors who have worked at the site.

Requests for information typically run into a wall of genuine ignorance. 'I have never heard of it,' says an executive of a marketing firm with nearly a decade's experience in promoting the memberships of other less-exclusive clubs across the region.

When a search turns up contact numbers from a government department, the instinctive question from the man at the Pyramid who answers is not 'What do you want?' but, tellingly, 'How did you get hold of us?' The club's honorary secretary, Rear-Admiral Richard Lim Cherng Yih, a senior civil servant at the Ministry of Defence, declined to answer written questions.

This preference for secrecy provides fertile territory for rumours to gain ground. One well-placed Singaporean talks of the Pyramid in terms that most people would associate with a cult. He speculates on understandings forged within a cosy fraternity and designed to keep the country on its stable trajectory. The reality is perhaps less sensational but might help in understanding formation and execution of Singapore's public policy.

The Pyramid was founded in early 1963, during what was the most intense period of Singapore's modern political history. Shortly after its registration, then-prime minister Lee Kuan Yew put his signature to the Malaysia Agreement, detailing formation of the new Malaysian federation.

The club's aims, as listed in its last annual return at the Registry of Societies, are so loosely worded as to be almost meaningless: 'To provide opportunities and amenities for members [to engage in a] regular exchange of ideas and information on matters of public interest.' More illuminating are the motto - 'A pyramid of public service' - and the identity of the 10-strong management committee.

George Yeo Yong-Boon, the Minister for Trade and Industry and one of the government's most promising front-benchers, is the Pyramid's president, assisted by vice-president Mah Bow Tan, who is the Minister for National Development. Michael Lim Choo San, the chairman of the National Healthcare Group, which manages half of the island's hospitals and clinics, is listed as honorary treasurer.

Of the six additional ordinary committee members, two stand out. Quek Poh Huat is the president of Temasek, one of the Government's main investment arms. Temasek holds many of the state's extensive commercial interests, including its stakes in DBS Group, the country's largest bank, and Singapore Telecommunications. Joining Mr Quek is another pillar of the establishment, Stephen Lee Ching Yen, the chairman of the influential Trade Development Board and the president of the Singapore National Employers' Federation.

These heavy-hitters carry the mantle for the Pyramid's founding executive team, which was also drawn from the top ranks of the new country's leadership. The first club president was Goh Keng Swee - a key ally of then-prime minister Lee - who then held the finance-ministry portfolio. He was supported by Pyramid vice-president, Jek Yeun Thong, then the political secretary in the prime minister's office.

These days, the group claims 246 ordinary voting members selected from the ranks of those who have 'a notable record of public service'. To maintain the necessarily special atmosphere, their numbers are capped at 300. They are joined by 72 senior members - aged over 65 - together with a further 40 associate members. Associate members, whose number may not exceed 150, are not Singapore nationals but 'any person residing in Singapore as the committee of management may decide'.

When the current venue was chosen, its backers opted for a location in the heart of one of Singapore's most exclusive districts. The upmarket Goodwill Hill not only lies close to other top-notch clubs, such the Tanglin Club and the American Club, but is also within easy distance of a swathe of embassies and high-class residences.

As members decline to talk, the regime of non-disclosure falters only when the premises are used for talks to which non-members are invited, as coverage can feature in the local media. The PAP's function hosted by Prime Minister Goh four-and-a-half years ago was just such an event.

More recently Abdullah Tarmugi, the Minister for Community Development and Sports, used it for what he termed a dialogue session with young members of Singapore's Malay community. The status, development and relative standing of the country's second-largest ethnic group - after the majority Chinese but ahead of the Indians - is a topic of extreme sensitivity. In all likelihood, the Pyramid was thought to be an ideal choice, because of its comfortable surroundings and its well-deserved reputation for confidentiality. Last year, it was the turn of veteran Japanese diplomat Takakazu Kuriyama, a former ambassador to the United States and to Malaysia, to give an address on security issues in East Asia, including Tokyo's initial support for Washington's controversial drive to develop a theatre-missile-defence system.

The only other public sign of the Pyramid's existence can be seen by those who take the trouble to visit the building. Beneath the trees at the foot of the driveway, a small sign confirms that you have found No. 2 Goodwood Park. Bolted on top, no bigger than a paperback book, is a stylised pyramid logo. It is as close as you are likely to get to one of Singapore's best-kept secrets.

here's how the complete model looks like, placed in front of the box it originally came in! i must admit this had been the largest model i've assembled ever. with plentiful instructions to boot. but our combined effort was worth it to check out all the cool added features of gull-wing doors that can be opened 45-deg up-forwards, rear hood that can be opened for a clearer view of the engine block (that has moving pistons when the rear wheels rotate) and even the front wheels can be steered with an attached steering column! massive undertaking it has been! i figured we probably took about 8 hours to complete (4 hours a day), about 2-4 hours faster than the estimated time i quoted from rachel on how long it'd take (think her source was probably the sales)... but i still can't imagine expecting a 10-year-old to finish building this at all... >_>

here's another shot of the enzo in her full glory. i must say it's a pretty large kit to assemble. 9 packs + 3 extra packs in all. the instruction manual was a hundred plus pages full! (in pictures of course)

here's a closeup of the vehicle with her front tyres steered slightly towards the camera. yes! the front wheels can be steered!

great butt eh? the rear hood can be lifted up to reveal the engine block in the back as well, neat!

from the front, the two-seater vehicle looks pretty spiffy, if not for my phone's 2MP quality to blur everything out pretty much

this is where the seats are located. note that i'd switched the vehicle to be driven on the right hand side because we're in singapore! xD

this is how the engine block supposedly meant to look like on an enzo ferrari...

haha my whole family headed out on sunday for a meal to celebrate father's day. i'd say it was fun to eat together at a table... heh!

whoah guess what rach got for me? thanks hunny! i love it! tho we're barely halfway assembling it together... but it's the process that's exciting isn't it? xD

gosh has it been so long already?

it's been a year... time flies indeed... my first year with rachie xD happy anni...

though for her today is a bit worrisome and sad, because her mum has been admitted to hospital for an operation on her knee. at least her mummy is fine out after the op, just a bit nauseous. just that she's pretty close to her mum so i figure she'd be feeling rather lonely for the next few nights sleeping alone in her room. *hugs*

and we'd attended a wedding dinner last night, rach and i. it's her friend's wedding, and it's actually my first time attending a wedding without my parents *plus* my first time attending a wedding with rachie! =x *stop moaning for me stop the saccharine goodness! xD* the location was a restaurant "Qian Xi Lou" down at the Civil Service Club in Tessensohn St (Owen Rd area), which had remarkably good food despite the dodgy sounding name. even their interior is nicely decorated and furnished aptly. pity i had to visit the loo twice throughout the course of the dinner. wonder if it was the orange juice. >_>

*happy anni dear*

nice good food

it's gonna be father's day and my family went out for dinner earlier on. we headed down to my cousin's bf's bistro at beach road cos i'd booked a table with them yesterday. i did it by sms! haha nah i merely messaged my cousin. but boy was it crowded. business was brisk for them today. i'm still burping from all that food. got "pai kuat wong" spare ribs, "gu lou yok" sweet & sour pork, lemon chicken, fried tofu, curry fish head and it was so filling! all ten of us (including the maid and ryan) could barely finish the remaining kangkong in the end.

ok so these past days i'd been busy with work, with only a bit of breathing space yesterday after that last round of tests completed on thursday. but it was still a busy day no less.

for the most parts of today, other than the dinner together with my family, the rest of the time was spent on gaming! xD rach had a penchant for the super mario games from nintendo that was originally played on the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) that was all the rage when we were much younger. sadly they didn't release any of their titles to PC or other platforms. so we have to resort to finding alternatives. given that decades have passed since it was first released, the copyright would mostly have been gone *or so i believe* so i managed to locate an emulator for their SNES ROM games. no idea what those terms mean? well an emulator is a program on a regular computer that can imitate the functionalities of another computer. so this means i can download an emulator of the SNES for my pc, load in a rom game (read: a single file that stores the whole game) into the program and i can start playing the vintage games on my desktop! yes, even arcade games of the last era! to top it off, we bought for ourselves a simple gamepad controller from logitech. with the whole setup, i just need to run the game, plug in the gamepad, connect my pc to the tv and my pc is practically behaving like any old game console! xD so fun... plus with so many varities of game consoles, my pc is even more flexible than any single one of them! hehehe... if you are interested, take a look at romnation eh?

i know some people had already been playing with rom games for a long time. i did too, but i stopped after getting bored. so i guess it's thanks to rach i'm back into it. haha...

*boo!*

rollercoaster ride on the down

ok so my rollercoaster ride of a job is currently taking a short breather. another round of testing was done today so at least it marked the end of yet another checkpoint. my colleague and i actually left (considerably) early today! at 630pm! xD

well yes i'd been slogging away to finish up certain tasks but it was satisfying to have completed so much.

having reached the end of the week (TGIFFFFFFFFFFF!!!) i can say i'm able to breath easier for the weekend. thank goodness it's freaking fabulously fantastically fun fragile flamboyant fleeting friday!!!

just when i thought it was going to finish up good...

i'd finished up my work late today. there were some stuff to settle with my colleague to prepare for tomorrow. we left about 740pm and i thought i could hurry back home fast. strangely, i'd decided to try and take the bus home today. that was the start of a series of totally bad decisions! i initially walked to a bus stop where i'd thought could let me take the bus i want home, to the bus stop just outside my street. i think i was initially waiting for 147.

a bus 857 arrived, and without much thinking, i impatiently flagged and boarded it, thinking that my 147 was not going to arrive any time soon. just as i boarded the bus i saw 147 show up right behind! @#$% ok so i was on my way at least... to make things worse, the road was jammed. "should have taken the train..."

so 857 was moving along until it reached the entrance to the PIE. damn it, i thought. it turned! i hastily alighted at the stop just before the expressway and briskly walked towards potong pasir. "should have taken the bloody train..." so i waited at the first bus stop i came across. for 30 seconds or less. i got impatient for the bus to show up (again, it's still that 147 which i'd thought had probably gone past this stop by then) and decided to walk towards the mrt station.

wrong move yet again! "should have taken the goddamn train..." the miraculous 147 showed up at the stop i just walked away from! @#$% i dashed towards the bus stop ahead of me, barely just in time to board the stupid bus. ok good so at last we are back on track. right?

wrong! i then realised that, this silly bus never did go past the bus stop outside my street... it would have turned left just before that! omfg it was stupendously pissy of me by then. so i alighted at the only stop i'd think to get off from, and finally got back on foot to walk home.

and to think, all this while, rach was ever so patiently waiting for me at the bus stop outside my street. so by the time the both of us made our way to my home, we were two rather unhappy people. she and her bad day at work, me with my ridiculous adventure.

thankfully, we partially got out of that mood with the presence of my nephew at home.

interestingly my colleague had mentioned something about me that she'd noticed. lol she actually said that she noticed that i'm so enthu towards my work like i'm actually enjoying it. hrmm... uhmm... but i do! call me crazy, but i still like this job after so many months! xD bwahahaha

*piggy! xD*

you'll just have to think of another way...

the terrorists who may be eyeing singapore i mean.

i don't know if anyone else noticed this, but i believe every cabbie in town has been briefed upon joining that they should inform the authorities if they spot anyone suspicious they picked up who they have been driving around taking photos, especially if in the vicinity of high security locations.

so, sorry fellas, if you want to snoop around, you aren't gonna be able to do it cheaply here. might have to rent a car or something... no wait... we'll have your records if you do that. or you could have spies here... ah heck whichever way i think you damn terrorists aren't gonna be able to do anything nasty here the cheapo way. then again i don't think you are able to do anything anyway. =x

ok that was weird of me posting a stupid note to the unknown.

otherwise, i'm flooded with work at erh... work. i'm just glad i don't have to bring my work home. and i've got 2 new colleagues at work in my department. both guys, one with the other team, one with mine. the other fella's married, this guy with me... i have no idea... although by the looks of it i doubt it. not that i have anything against him. he's only been here for 2 days. they are both older than me, so my point is, even with these 2 new additions to my department, minus the intern (she's half my junior from TP btw) i'm still the youngest fella around! xD suppose that would be a good and bad thing. i could get bullied more easily (well ok they aren't that evil here so far) and on the flipside i can be more shielded by my elders *cough cough*

oh and speaking of my colleagues, i can't believe that even my female colleagues watch the World Cup! they were discussing about how Czechs was thought to be strong but they lost to the USA team... and all this, practically sounds like gibberish to me. of course i can understand the basics but all those strange talk about performance and techniques on the soccer field would really stump me. rachel should really be feeling lucky to have me. xD especially since i'm the type who doesn't watch soccer... xD xD xD

*not a soccer-widow! xD*

my forecast

i somehow can see that in the upcoming weeks/months ahead of me, i'm going to be pretty busy, be it at work or during the weekends. i've got deadlines to meet, weddings (2 in fact) to attend, a send-off potluck, army matters to handle and i'm sure the list doesn't just end there.

and btw, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARLING! =x

we cooked lunch together today... just hope she feels alright after eating the fettucine/sauce/baked fish i'd made...

*HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO RACHEL HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!*

Geoduck - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ever wonder how in the world do people come up with names for these creatures? it's a frickin clam and it looks nothing like a duck, let alone a duck that is... even "geo" looking... >_> ok i'm just doing some brainless ranting but the name of this creature is perplexing to me...

my cheap stomach

my cheap stomach can't take good food. no really. i went to have seafood for lunch today with rachel, and by the 2nd hour since we came back to my place my tummy had been raising objections all the way until midnight (which is now by the way). all those delicious crustaceans and my stomach doesn't know how to appreciate good stuff even when it gets it.

oh and in case you aren't aware, it's rach's birthday this coming monday! xD of course, here's wishing a happy birthday to gret and yongqi too. i was actually with rach and her colleagues down at a pub in town for the night yesterday. i can say they practically came in full force, almost everyone at her office came down i think. i think i can easily summarise those colleagues of hers in simple ABCD for the most parts. Amusing, Boisterous, Ciggies and Drunk. minus the few exceptions who were more demure of course.

ooh my aching tummy...

zzz

i'm gonna break my routine and try to sleep earlier tonight. so zzz... my body is aching from some silly static exercises i'd done yesterday. so much work at erh... work...

Dermatology Associates

hrmm i can't believe i'd left this site opened in my firefox (in case you didn't realise, i have this extension installed for my ff called sessionsaver, that saves my browser settings when i close it so when i re-open the browser, it keeps the sites i have left in the tabs the same way i'd left them!) since few weeks back when they had a mere "coming soon" on their front page. now that they've finally come up with the whole site structure i'm really finding it amusing that i'd kept the url there all this time not bothering to close it! hah!

let's start again!

i'm nuts i guess but i think it's fun in a sense, and gives me something to look forward! it's always good to have something to look forward to in life don't we?

21 days and counting down! xD

i'm feeling sappy.

divine traffic lights

silly it may seem, but there is this one thing that i do this quite frequently. and it's probably because i drive often. i very often determine how the rest of my day or even the following day will be like while driving. and i try to do this by following the signals from the traffic lights i drive past. it's probably an OCD behaviour but i tend to believe that if the traffic lights are all green (aka green wave) for me for a few junctions, or better yet, all the way home, or to wherever my destination is, it'd mean my day will be plain-sailing. if i come across few red lights at small junctions it could mean small hiccups which are still tolerable. if the red lights are at major junctions my day may not be as smooth, and the worst would be if i hit red lights at every single junction! that could spoil the rest of my day or even the next...

that said, i have come to realise a pattern in traffic lights. given on a stretch of road going straight, if you start off at one junction from a red light, and travel within the speed limit, by the time you reach the next junction, the chances are higher for you to actually chance upon the green light there, and so on.

hence, the moral of the story here is: let things take their course, as there is no point rushing things because even if you do rush yourself, the matters won't resolve sooner, you only wear yourself out earlier by getting anxious longer.

what would you do without them?

thank goodness for petrol kiosks in the world! can't imagine what people would do without these man! they are stationed all over the island at strategic locations so people can refuel, refresh and relieve themselves. i'm so glad they are in existence. because, without them, people like me who very often have a sudden urge to do a number 2 in the toilet would otherwise be looking for secluded spots in the bushes to do my business in. why yes, i guess i really am full of shit now that i think about it. i was so sure that the auntie i'd begged for toilet paper (they didn't have any inside can you believe it?!) over the counter in that petrol kiosk must have been half pitying and half mocking me when she passed me the small bundle of paper. and to think that there was a small queue of people waiting somemore! >_<" so embarassing. but boy am i glad we have petrol kiosks in singapore.

in other news, my dad just bought an Akira brand tv which was a "re-conditioned" display set at a supposedly bargain price at their warehouse sale today. we travelled all the way to the west for it mind you. they had their warehouse sale in their supposedly hq main building which was conveniently located just beside the IMM building. i can't say much for their service, but the crowd was sure a big one. i could hardly feel the aircon in there. IMM, however, had a refreshing look with it. it's been a while since i last went so the interior was rather new to me.

i can say i was lazing about at home today. rach was working at the singapore expo so i stayed home alone. sure feels good to recharge after a week's working in the office.

oh, and did i mention that my colleague is currently on holiday in thailand? she's away for her hen party before her wedding day. and she's going to be back only on tuesday next week. this was just the first day she wasn't around and already i was helping to clear some of her stuff in her absence. my main deadline better be completed asap. i hope. >_> isn't it typical? you get your core set of tasks to work on, and other people start piling up your work by giving you ad-hoc requests and sometimes due to the glitches in the system (there's _always_ a glitch somewhere) things have to be investigated to find out why things are the way they are.

anyway, to keep my mind off work at home, i can't believe rach and i are currently catching the last episodes of the Dae Jang Geum series on VCD. >_> one reason i mostly don't like to watch long-drawn series, or even RPG games with long storylines. i know, but prefer not, that i'd probably get addicted or drawn into the series/game and by doing so i might use up more of my time on such activities than other things. call me anal, but i always think that my time can be put to better use if i'm lazing away. the sense of utter guilt of inefficiency. yes, indeed. i don't like to feel inefficient. am i starting to sound like a machine? hope not. i probably have an OCD of sorts. that's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for those not in the know. it's not a good thing usually, but it's definitely not as extreme as the X-men situations. xD
