do you do the limbo rock?

just taking a bit of a break today. not really break. just not doing anything productive, but still working on my stuff. i think i had a dream. but i can't remember what it was about. i think i was dreaming that i went for a job. HAHAHAHAHA... xD it's children's day all over the world tomorrow! like it's any of my business. my holiday is coming to an end and i don't think i enjoyed it one bit. less stress yes, but not enjoyment either.

i realise i'm in a constant or frequent state of limbo. after graduating from polytechnic, i was in limbo until i got enlisted. and although i wasn't in limbo after that, it was mostly because i was too busy getting pumped and stuff like that. then came the time to ORD, but the period before that gave me a feeling of limbo too. and after i ORD, there were months of limbo. while waiting for my flight over to aussie land, that. so i reached australia, for the first week or so, i was in limbo. this time i had jason with me to limbo together. i guess we had to grit our teeth for that first session. but i think i felt it another limbo stance. hanging on until the next session comes. then came the month long holiday that i flew back to singapore in. you guessed it, yet another period of limbo. then it's time to study again after returning here until now. i guess the same feeling comes back when something is about to end. this is the second session and is the last one too. so it's probably appropriate. what about when i graduate? fly back to singapore with my degree? and i'll be in limbo once again. until i find a job that is. then on, we'll see if i'll get into any more limbo rock. maybe to do with promotions and stuff. ah yes. the part about probation periods. that's another limbo. and then it'll be down to the main event at long last. if i ever get there that is. but hang on! i think it'll b another limbo! because i'd be waiting to gain enough experience and get some sort of pay increment and/or promotion!

that's it. i'm coming to the stupid conclusion that life is just a limbo rock. forever waiting for the next stage to arrive. no wonder some people just take the shortcut and get to the finish line before anyone else does. i'm not going to turn suicidal like them though. just sitting in for the ride i guess. so hang on tight. it's going to be quite a ride. -yawn-

i love to rant. incoherently.

flash time!

documentation done, next stop, using flash to produce a video. it's that feature tour thingy i mentioned about a few days back. we gonna make it all modular and work on different parts for this "video". but obviously jason's parts of the flash gonna look prettier hahaha... =x we're just going to do some screen shots, coupled with subtitles voiced-over by the most slack of our group member. and of course include some mouse movements and clicks here and there too! so ok i suppose we're done halfway. hrmm... perhaps 3/7th done i guess. since there are 7 parts to this. we came up with a script for this, and i guess it's some sort of story board for us. easier to work with too i believe.

the two manuals are done already. we sent it out to the other guys and asked them to "read through it" for problems. =_= hahaha kinda bad but it's so jialat that we're better off settling this asap on our turf. it's a dilemma i tell you. don't give them work, we machiam grab all the credit. give them work, they don't produce good results. so give them work already end up we'll have to clean up after them anyway. and it might even delay the project. haiz... sad fact of life.

it's already halfway through the holidays! wow... so exciting. yay... zzz

i'm totally stuck at home

well ok at least we finished the technical manual for our project today. just me finishing up my parts mostly anyway. so yes that's one task down, several more to go! yay! and apparently earlier on just when we wanted to email the supervisor about our missing group member, i tried calling his home number one last time, and miraculously his family answered! no he's not dead yet. he picked up the call and we found out what happened to him. apparently his phone was... not topped up i think? =_=" then he has a skin problem so he'd been making trips to the doctor frequently. and that's supposedly the same reason he's been giving for not checking his email for the past weeks! omfg. oh well at least we got him. and we don't have to tell the supervisor we've got a missing group member now. just another not doing anything. nothing special.

the other guy managed to send us a number of the voice overs he'd done so far. oh well. good to see him doing something, and with stuff to show for.

it's halfway through the holiday week and i still don't feel any atmosphere of enjoyment around here. lol. sucky assignments neverending...

don't bother reading this

cos there's not much to read about anyway.

well basically the house owner came back today. i noticed some people's bobbing head out my window (side yard of the house, or whatever you call that) and decided to take a look. because normally people walking past the house would not come *behind* the car. so anyway it turned out to be her, talking to a guy she was going to hire to cut the grass this coming friday. so i invited her in for a little while, to catch up (some sort). the 3 of us had a short chat, and discussed about things to do with settling house matters. apparently when we had thought somebody had stolen her lawnmower, grasscutter and 2 pairs of hedge shears, it turned out she took them, thinking we didn't use those. which brings us back to the point as to why she hired help to cut the grass. the grass hasn't been cut since... May i think. long grass. plenty of weeds growing strong too. flowers are in full bloom. spiders crawling all over too. oh well it's good she hired someone to do the dirty deed. probably more professionally too.

apparently she was busy tending to her daughter. 40+ with stomach cancer that has since been cured. but the problem lies with the hospital she is in. or health institute, whatever. she said they kept her (the daughter) there and giving her all sorts of chemotherapy. the cancer is practically gone (at least she said so) but they still gave her injections. this kind of leads to overdosage. the sad part of all this? her daughter's mentally unstable since. something to do with the institute backed by a large american medical group of sorts...

an update of our group project group members:
  • one worked on a java class file and passed it to jason. at least it works. and he's consistent in his work. consistently slow... but consistent. xD
  • one who disappeared since 2weeks ago. not replying emails, sms messages; mobile phone number "not in use", home phone nobody answered (today and yesterday).
  • one who practically didn't do anything concrete for this project. he had been working on java class files with the first one, but we figure most of the time the work is done by that guy and this fella just sits around giving unconstructive suggestions. so he finally came up with something. voice recording we were going to use for the video for our project. some "advertisement" material. just a small part and he couldn't do it over the weekend. he did it yesterday, when it was suppose to be the deadline jason set for him. just a small portion to start with, and he had to delay it until today. goodness. this is a holiday week. his daily part time job starts in the evening, what the heck could he possibly be working on?! surely half an hour worth of time to spend on this small portion for a year-long subject be more important than any other stuff right? he hasn't been working up to expectations so far. the tasks assigned to him came up to nought. this is the first small thing he came up with that is under his name.
*ahem* so anyway like i said, nothing much happened today. my daily rants. :)

*12th! xD*

new thing learnt today!

this is the start of the week-long holidays! yay! and what's more is that i learnt something new and fascinating today! well ok everyone else would probably think it's boring. but nevertheless i find it fascinating in a way. there's something in the world of computers (not again!?) that's known as "installers". the aim of these programs are to install other programs. and previously i had no idea how these stuff works. so i'm actually delving into how these things work. apparently they work by scripts, which then compile into an executable and the installer can be executed from that executable! sounds so fun just talking about it. i'd been tinkering with this sort of thing because we thought it might be pretty cool to let our "client" install whatever things we have to offer just by a few clicks of a mouse! thus i'm learning this so-called "new" scripting language, of which this one i'm looking at is for the Nullsoft Scriptable Install System which is free! and apparently they had a number of "famous" users to boot too!

sorry ah techie person is like that one. easily fascinated by this sort of stuff... so yes my better part of today was spent figuring out how setup programs run silently, configuring batch (.bat) files and not forgetting installing/uninstalling/reinstalling my various programs. i can imagine my harddisk is pretty fragmented now after all those operations. bad. :( but it was arduously fun. and now i've got something pretty to show for. well not really pretty, but more presentable! :)

*one sweet! xD*

sleep debt

i'm owing my body lots of sleep. i slept 4am last night and woke up 6.30am. i think. i couldn't get back to sleep and by 7.30 i gave up and woke up to have breakfast. and then after a short meeting with jason (yes we're mad. early sunday morning discuss work barely moments after waking up and doing laundry!) we went for a hair cut. uh yah so my hair is... short now. ugly. and i think the sleep debt just started hitting me after dinner. let's hope we've got enough time to do all the work i need to do.

i'm so freaking HAPPY now!

yes i'm glad. why? because i'd completed the silly assignment. i'm rather proud of myself due to this too! i didn't quite realised it but apparently i started working on it since this wednesday, and it's been 4 days and i'm done with it! so happy about it... it had been torturous. i scoured the web for all the things i needed. tried this and that without much success. i even left one part of the assignment alone and move on to work on other parts first. then i found something that could help with that part so i went back to it. and it worked! yay! and now, it's time to move on to the other stuff necessary to work on. like i said, this coming holiday week is just a week to catch up on my work. think that probably applies to every uni student here.

times flies you know, especially when you are swamped with stuff to do. 48 days more and we'll be homebound. i just hope the person who's waiting for me is still there waiting... all this work, this distance from home... haiz...

well ok at least i can heave a sigh of relief for now.

*isux*

something's wrong

my fingers have been twitching. occasionally. leg muscles too. they just twitch when they happy. den i can see the finger move slightly left n right without me moving it on purpose. not all of them at once. probably just the index finger or another. any one has something like this before?

mundane day

i'm stuck on C++ and i can't solve it easily. bad. there was this dumb presentation after some silly discussion from reading an article in one of my tutorials today. pointless, but it using powerpoint slides. uh well my group were alright i guess. i blabbered some stuff. the *omg* thing was that the tutor (who is a chinese obviously) was criticising about this group of chinese nationals. nope not their english. this time they were reading off their papers and basically we could barely hear what they say when they mumble. "reading is different from presentation" or so said the tutor. true. these people need to learn. badly.

did i mention next week is holiday? at least they say it is. catch-up week more likely, i hope i'll have enough time. but it seemed time flew past so quickly this session. i was swamped with neverending work! so ... uh i probably said all that before. but anyway, we've got like 6 weeks remaining before we fly back! yay!

daytrip!

uh yeah jason and i took a trip to sydney today. we were terrorists for the day. yah kidding. he went around taking photos for his assignment... uh... well ok it's not really his part but... his group members suck. so we walked around town. and my my, the number of asians we saw were plenty! a lot of japanese, chinese, yada yada yada. it seemed almost as if there were more asians than angmohs there! well ok to be fair, we wandered around mostly close to chinatown. but you get the idea. and not that jason noticed it much, but i was seeing cops at every other junction. tight security i say! pretty neat. then there were the emergency vehicles roaring past us so often you think they were under siege. and then we walked past a building with a bunch of guys with walkie talkie headsets on their ears. i'm 90% sure they are security personnel. had the urge to ask them which bigshot was coming to town, though i won't want to be pinned down by a bunch of burly men. that would be embarassing.

ah well, we had meat pies, and we had dinner at the food court in chinatown. i had a bowl of wanton soup for AUD $6. i guess the price is ok. considering it's in sydney, in australia.

while we were eating our early dinner(practically 4.30pm started eating) there was a couple seated beside us. they were just finishing up their food and left. had plenty of leftovers. then this angmoh came around and sat down at their seats moments after the chinese couple left. and he STARTED EATING THEIR LEFTOVERS! omg. :( so poor thing. at first i couldn't really believe my eyes. he looked fairly well dressed: long blue checkered shirt and jeans. he didn't look too messy. but he was seated there. i wondered if my mind was screwing with me, and that i actually didn't see a couple leaving their seats just moments ago (i have a poor memory) but NO! i was damn sure they just left. the angmoh wouldn't order all those food for TWO. and he was eating the remaining morsels of food on their dishes... he didn't touch the rice though. and he was using his hands... finishing up the bits of chicken left over, food here and there.

that was saddenning. i felt sorry for him. for starters, he wasn't begging. neither was he disturbing any of the patrons there. he wasn't doing anything bad or annoying basically. i felt the urge to pass him some money (AUD$5?) but i hesitated. if i did, either he'd feel insulted and not take it, or some commotion might kick up... i'm so ashamed of myself. he eventually had his "fill", stood up and walked out of the food court. this food court was in a chinatown building. i'm still pondering about the possibilities as to why he had to resort to eating leftovers of other people in a food court. was he mentally ill(aka had the money but still does it anyway)? did he just escape/got released from prison or somewhere? was he really so poor he couldn't afford to eat? were we on candid camera (doubt it)? why did he not find a proper (labour) job to get paid and eat something proper? i've got all these questions floating in my head wondering away... it's just that this is my first time seeing this situation. right in front of me.

i've got a list again! this time, it's the assignments i'll be working on:-
  • C++ assignment 3 (i prepared a written version while on the train, so proud of myself ^^;; but having stupid problems compiling so far),
  • Annual Project
    • User Manual (Admin/Forum)
    • Tech Manual (Database/XML Guidelines)
    • Feature Tour animation in Flash
  • WWN programming project (practically 50% done only)
  • and soon, a risk assessment part for a group project that's to do with security issues.
obviously the week-long holiday we'll have next week won't see us being too free any time.

*i want vinegar pot =x*

it wasn't a really good day after all...

jason was miffed at last. not that it's a good thing. but he has had it with those group mates of ours. he gave 2 of them a piece of his mind. on email of course. the other one has practically disappeared with no news. let's just hope thing don't turn ugly. we don't mean to sound mean. but they (2 of them) don't have much initiative to find how things work on their own, on the net. the first thing they do when they don't understand is calling jason up. and sometimes me too (but they know i'm not as well-informed)... barely a tinge of a sense of urgency in them. one task (to write one class file) takes them well over 3 weeks. disappointed and exasperated.

on a lighter note, the credits page was done up for our project site. it's got our names on it. and as an added "easter egg" of sorts, when people click on the link a second time, more info about each of us is revealed. hehehe... programmers have a tendency to do silly things like this. who else can remember to suggest such silly ideas but me! xD yeah we wrote crappy stuff inside. jason added one line for mine that i kind of disagree. but he wanted it there anyway. =_=" but it's a nice thing to do. thanks xD

a piece of A2 sized poster will cost us an arm and a leg. well ok AUD$35 to be precise. by comparison, an A3 version would cost barely AUD$3. that's because an A2 requires a plotter, as opposed to a colour laser printer or what have you. we'll see which one we'll choose. haha... $_$ but to make it pretty it's probably ok. hehe...

will have to work on the other assignments soon too. yeah they're beginning to pile up again. and it seems lately i haven't been able to get anything done! which is really bad. :(

*move move move!*

i know i know...

this is getting monotonous but i hardly did any work today. well ok at least i was clever in class. i helped 2 chinese nationals with their lab assignment. they were already having trouble copying my codes off the screen. =_=" so i helped them debug a bit. ok lah to be honest, the lab assignment wasn't (supposed to be) difficult. shell scripting in Unix/bash. something that is slightly different from the IRC scripting i'm (somewhat) familiar with.

it rained today. in the afternoon. pretty rare, considering NSW is in a state of drought apparently. it wasn't too heavy, just a light but dense drizzle. i fetched jason from the uni as a result, along with one of our less desirable group member. let's not mention about him for now. we (jason and i) sat down for practically 4 hours after dinner just now to discuss about what to include in our "video presentation" for our project. we came up with a script that brings the viewer through a tour of whatever features we have. and then we kind of arrowed the fella to do the voiceovers. HAHAHA... well alright. we'd already "informed" him about this "decision" already. and besides, since he hardly did much (in comparison to jason's mountain of work), he should just do something to make up for it. hehe justifying why we arrowed him.

and i guess that was the main bulk of "work" i did. non-technical work, but still work. brain power. racked our brains for that approximately 5 minutes worth of oral presentation. jason timed me reading out the script. then we'll eventually stick a fancy flash animation to the script.

gosh. today flew by so quickly i was still wondering what was i doing for today...

*vacuum! xD*

there goes the weekend!

uh ok so i didn't do much work. nothing special. managed to watch Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children (or whatever they call it), all thanks to my lovely darling. xD well ok i enjoyed the show. cool. real cool.

so i slacked. my java applets are still screwed up. but at least i have this half-efforted fix. my IE is now using the IBM version of the Sun JRE version 1.4.2... which means it's an older version but works. just that it isn't working for my firefox. i'll just leave it at that for now.

about saturday
i couldn't really do much work anyway. did i mention that we had power outage on saturday?! apparently i forgot all about it. well ok so we did. it affected the whole freaking neighborhood! and we had food in the oven. beef rendang on the electric stove. :( it lasted for 1.5hrs. which was good, considering when we checked the automated outage notice phone number, they gave a 2hour estimate. so the sky was turning dark, and we just came back from grocery shopping, then jason decided to play on his PSP. and i gladly sat beside him and watch him do his neat moves on the dunno what game of his. nothing much else to do haha... we wanted to save battery power on our laptops just in case the outage dragged on too long. and no internet access because the router was dead. no food yet. i ate chips. yes before dinner!!! wahaha... so anyway after about 1.5hrs the lights came back on and we continued making dinner. the wind was ridiculous i'll tell you! it was blowing so wildly anyone could have heard it indoors. and that's probably why there was an outage. the automated voice mentioned about emergency repairs or something to that effect. at least power was restored! it was pretty exciting... at first. we weren't sure what happened. so the first thing we did was check our own power mains. nothing wrong. then i asked jason to check with his friend. nothing. then we decided to call up the whatever number we had for the power company (they're actually called Integral Energy) and that was the answer we got.

madness day!!!

today was crazy. nothing unique happened. but my laptop is screwed up yet again. boring right? this bugger giving me java applet problems again. but i think i'll leave it as it is for now. got other things to settle first. haven't been productive today. too much clutter to settle. especially this annoying laptop giving me problems. maybe i'll sell it off when i get back to sg.

//ftp!

i didn't blog yesterday

well i wanted to. and then i found out my java was screwed up yet again. so that totally spoilt my mood to do anything else. so i shut down my laptop and left it as it was until i woke up and continued to fix the damn thing. apparently it seems ok for now. but i can't say for sure when the thing will decide to act up again. no mood for anything else. sianz. but at least i done quite a fair bit of the PHP stuff for one of my assignments. -sigh-

Thursday, September 15, 2005

rawwrrghh

i'm feeling sick. i feel damn sick. i'm feeling sick so much that it's ridiculous. well ok actually i'm not sick. i just feel sick. i'd been working on my stupid PHP site. but that's not the point. i had dinner earlier on, and after that, i was working on the assignment for a while. but moments later i decided to snooze. and the snooze lasted more than 2 hours! oh my... and when i woke i felt pretty yucky. my shitty senses are tingling inside, telling me to be more careful as i can feel my body getting sick. i don't know with what, but it don't feel good. maybe i'm just simply lethargic from all this mental exertion. what's more is i've to switch between PHP, JSP, and C++ (well ok not really) in my head every so often. hahaha... yeah it's bullshit but i can't say it's not linked. oh my... and my head is throbbing now... time to drink more water!

*sigh*

all systems go?

ok so to recap, i reformatted my laptop. it's in pristine factory defaults condition. and then i installed my lot of software. minus the unnecessary ones of course. so yeah now my system is leaner and meaner. or so they say. i'd really like to take a break from my assignments, but it is unfortunately impossible to do really. everywhere i go i think about them, which to work on first, how to solve the problems and things like that. just irksome. and i'm expecting myself to face similar situations when i start working in future. if i find a job. haha...

a professor spoke to me today. he's one of the head of departments for the IT faculty at UOW. he's from nigeria (aka native african) and from our conversation i realised there are indeed a lot of people studying IT but not really wishing to do any programming at all. SERIOUSLY! what's the point in studying IT if you don't do PROGRAMMING?! kind of defeats the whole purpose. pointless attempt at getting PR in a foreign country that (for some) hardly speaks your language and you hardly speak theirs. i can't imagine how a person who has not done any programming work in the IT field. this would probably mean their math is probably totally CMI, they don't understand computational logic, and the worst of all is they don't know how a computer works?! and they intend to call themselves IT professionals? professional my foot. given the conditions here they'll probably end up doing phone-in technical support or the likes. not to say i look down on these people (i shan't) going into detail lest i start getting ... ahem... racist. or biased. whatev. and i digressed. the professor commented that, as a IT student, one would probably be knowledgeable or at least familiar with minimum of 2 programming languages. i can't help but agree. so those who are less than clueful about this necessity and are still taking IT, i don't see much future in their professional job prospects in this field. if at least got a minimal level of programming skills like me an average (read: nearly almost cmi) still can survive i think. otherwise, good luck to those people.

Water experts say Singapore can become world's water hub

wah liew a bit far fetched lor. sg becoming world-class water desalination technology exporter. but i guess it's typical lah. sg always try to stay ahead and generate new sources of income. it would be good that we sell technology out before others get to where we are now.

Sea water to drink anyone?

yay! i can't WAIT to drink all that wonderful seawater around us when they send it to us! maybe we'll get to taste all srots of different variations! such as sushi-flavored, death-flavored, wreck-flavored and last but not least, diaper-flavored!

where was i?

i reformatted my laptop. took quite some time. the actual reformatting process took over an hour~! but anyway it's 90% done now. i had it reset to factory default settings. why did i do it? firstly, i had too much nonsense programs installed. secondly the applets on my browsers weren't loading. so i thought, heck since i had the time luxury to do so, better do it quick before my assignments pile up again. yeah i'm just being anal about the applet part. that was my primary motive for reformatting. but the process wasn't too painful. i had my trusty external harddisk to back things into. hehe so that was rather fun. maybe i should do this more often hahaha...

*i don't mean to...*

choose your water

yay so sg has new water sources and less inclined to depend on our neighbour up north. good i guess. maybe next time piped water can be available in different forms, for flushing toilets, non-potable, or shower, or drinking whatnot... damn. sg is always ahead in innovation and stuff like that.

Monday, September 12, 2005

no mood

my laptop's screwing up. i can't load java applets on browsers. thinking of reformatting the whole thing. :( no mood to say anything else. woke up half hour late for lab lesson and settled the lab task ok i guess... the client was happy with our project, with some changes of course. *sianz*

Sunday, September 11, 2005

yay we're done!

for once we can heave a gigantic sigh of relief! we're basically done with our parts for the silly annual project! wheeee~ rejoice! and to think i went to sleep this morning 6am after slogging at it... haha so we tested it here and there and it... works basically. hehe what's left are the parts that don't have anything visible to show the client. but yeah we're done. so much more relieved. and now it's spring already! the sun's rising before 6am (i know because i saw it come up before i slept) and went down after 6pm! there was still light at around 6pm (before it was dark by 530pm). hehe happy for now!

today also marks the anniversary (3rd? 4th?) of the 9-11 attack on the twin towers a few years back. a reminder of the ugly side of humans, rearing its head...

and my brother, who had his birthday 2 days back, celebrated with barely a cake, because he had to work late. so sad. and i sms-ed him wishing him a happy birthday a day late. *oops* =x

and oh it turned out the killer who dismembered the filipino maid was arrested and trialed. another filipino maid. seems that the police were pretty efficient. 12 hours and they got the person. now we'll see what motive did she have. although i still hold a bit of skepticism about whether the maid who was arrested is guilty or not at all.

coding

yes today is coding day. today is where i code nonstop for the whole day. coding in java. in jsp. the same will probably go for tomorrow. monday meeting client you see. so we're trying to complete 99% of the stuff that's visible. jason's probably having it tougher than me. oh well... pia lor... we're too work-oriented. feeling suckered by our group members(just one guy mostly). as i said before, he hadn't been productive at all so far. weird assholes. wonder how they got through their past years in the university. picture them going out to work in future. oh you've got a degree in IT? "

"according to your resume you had worked on [some stuff he studied] before yes? ok good you're hired."

"what do you mean you don't know how to do that? that's like the most basic thing to do. you're fired!"

haha yes i'm mean. but he's rather pointless in studying if he doesn't do his work. we heard he had someone do his java programming for him. he barely passed that. the same went for C++ programming. piece of shit!

tsk. back to work. tsk.

peculiar day.

i got back my... assignment. the crappy report document. i got 15.5 over 20. good i suppose. =_=" and then i saw my group members both got 16.5 each. HAHAHA... sianz. they 2 angmohs get 1mark more lol... but apparently the rest of the tutorial class some didn't get good grades. i guess i'll just be satisfied with what i've got. one thing good about this group i'm with to work on a project, is these 2 angmohs are pretty zai. one of them even works for the city council here. good resource. hehe...

our group member isn't doing his work. in fact, he hasn't really done any concrete work (aka lines of code/material that we can use). jason's pretty disappointed already. i niao that fella between our lesson when we had one hour break. well ok not really niao. i just hounded him for a deadline. haha i wasn't too annoying but i was repeating myself pretty much. he could barely give an answer. =_=" it's a moral dilemma for us, whether to expose him for the lazy asshole he is, or cover up for him (jason's doing a good job of this so far) even if it's to help him just pass.

there was a presentation for one of my silly subject, that WWN one. it's for our progress report for whatever we're working on. lasts a stupid 2 minutes per person. sheesh. and apparently from what i'd sat through, i was the only person in that tutorial who had some sort of screen shots to show on the slides.
  • some were doing their 6000-word essay so there's nothing to show in their case.
  • some, however, who were doing the programming project as i am, showed up with bare hands. they drew on the whiteboard for that.
  • the few chinese nationals were showing their usual bad english, which probably is forgiveable.
so basically everyone talked about their research and what they had done, without showing what exactly they had done. except for me. not to say i'm anal, but these people hardly take their work seriously. yes maybe some may think the 2minutes of crapping isn't worth their time to come up with a presentation, but it's part of the assessment after all isn't it? -sigh- i won't say i have good content for my presentation, but the least there was stuff to show them and keep their eyes occupied while i ramble on nonsensically/incoherently.

screw that. i've got a number of new assignments, with old ones still hanging around. just trying to get my work done.

i would like to repeat myself. i know i said this before but heck. i try to blog every single day. why? i've got lousy memory. i might be senile already. i can hardly recall what i'd done the day before, or what i'd bought, where i'd been to(if i didn't follow the school timetable). and i'm also worried that one day, i'll get amnesia. and i'll forget what i'd done before. so i can... recollect my memories here. yes it sounds a little drastic, but that's one of my fears. lol... i mean it. i'm afraid that one day, i'll wake up not knowing who i am, where i am, how did i live. it may turn out to be a good thing. or a bad thing. nobody knows. i'll write about my other silly fears another time. there's one about my family... haha damn i'm just so insecure about some stuff. it's just i hardly bother to think about these things. 'cos i've got better things to do than worry. but the worries are still there. haha this is so contradicting. oh well...

*@;[*

ipod nano!

uh yeah. they just came out with that thing. cool!

and some smartass is begging people to donate money to him so he can get himself a ferrari! oh wow... the cheek of some people!

and to those who own ipods... ever consider committing yourself to the hot audio player one step further?

i'll rant somemore later but right now i'm starving. haha...

the bottom line is...

i have to admit i'm not a very interesting person. like it or not, i must say i believe i'm rather... backward. i shall next proceed to describe some bad points about myself. i like making lists anyway...
  • i crack lame jokes - 90% of the time the jokes i make are lame. the people in my group during my 5 day stay at outward bound singapore told me so, the whole lot. and of course not forgetting practically everyone else. so yeah i guess i'd been trying too hard. =_=
  • i can be superbly anal - given a good day, i'd have comments (mostly criticisms) for almost everything, even if nobody asked me for my opinion. that probably annoys a hell lot of people.
  • i always think i'm right - occasionally. i probably would know that i might be in the wrong but i'll still insist i'm right, which is totally anal as well.
  • i just don't get it - no matter how people explain situations or rationale to me, i just don't. the hamster up in my head was probably taking a vacation each time that happens. maybe it went to visit my hamster in this blog of mine.
  • i'm pointless - i make pointless comments. 'nuf said.
  • i sound incoherent - sometimes. or i basically don't make any sense. rambling nonsense perhaps.
  • i'm extra - needs no explanation.
other than the above, i sometimes do make the effort to get things done i suppose. but sometimes, these efforts are... inefficient. there are probably better ways to do what i had done, but NOoooo i HAD to do things THAT way, which is not as good.

so basically my character is flawed. i can be nice some of the time, but otherwise i'm a real pain in the neck IF i'm not being an asshole.

now wasn't that informative?

if you think i'm feeling... un-up, you're probably right. self-doubt occurs frequently, especially in times of excess work. i'm not surprised if i get this often, even though i don't post it up here.

some headlines for the day:
some fokkers in the sky ...guess what will be patrolling the straits of malacca soon.
more red tape shit from the katrina in US ...i think the trashy news from US are just trying to make the situation sound real bad on Bush, even though i don't think too highly of him.
mp3 players may cause hearing loss ...this was plucked from my friend's blog lah... but if you own a portable audio player, maybe it's time to think twice hehe...

in a blink of an eye, it's already week 8. time flies when you are having _fun_ here. lessons end on week 13. followed by a study week and 2 weeks set aside for exams. i just managed to catch a breather here for a while. then it's back to my assignments. *sigh*

i'm attached to a girl, and i love her yes i do.

oh and before i forget... 2 days back, my parents were on video conference with me. and my nephew sang 老鼠爱大米 to me. took me a while to figure out that the lyrics sounded familiar. but it was so adorable...

Homefront Security Month anyone?

the lads serving ns at civil defence will probably be pretty busy this month i suppose. but i guess it's good to be on high alert. well yeah what do you think this is? DPM Wong declared september to be a special "homefront security" month most probably because the government decided to be on higher alert for terrorists now. but of course without causing alarm, they gave it a nicer sounding name and try to make it sound... i don't know... fun? quite possibly the alert level is at third level now.

the prepaid card is a double-edged sword. those who can't afford postpaid accounts for their handphones, or rarely using their phone are more than happy to use prepaid. terrorists too. i guess it's true that unless they do something to keep a tighter rein on this service in singapore, someone might be smart enough to figure out getting together an improvised device and incorporate the prepaid sim card with... (hrmm nokia isn't american. let's use motorola...uh are they american?) a motorola v3 handphone that will activate the device! that's bad. i mean, it'd be a waste of the phone though. but i can imagine the terrorist would be like "hmph we can afford higher end stuff even if it's just for our missions" HAHAHA...

i...

i couldn't stand it anymore. i'm sorry i can't help myself. it was so tempting, mocking me. i felt insulted. it had been a while... i just had to do it, i'm so very sorry. i know it's not wrong to do, but it was rather sudden. i vacuumed the floor in our house. yes i did it. xD what did you think i did? ;) well yes i couldn't stand all that dust accumulating along the corridor between our rooms. it's one of those sudden urge i get once in a blue moon.

flavor of the week: php.

*i wanted to surprise...*

taking a dive

what does RECORD mean? Recognise the Contribution of Operationally Ready NSmen to Total Defence. it's a bit off. if they wanted to acronymise it, shouldn't it be RTCOORNSTTD? or... RCORNSTD or even RCORNTD... lol oh ok lah they decided to use REcognise Contribution Operationally Ready Defence... *ok i'm sounding incoherent*

In the wake of the Katrina storm, President popped back to New Orleans again. it seems that people just aren't very happy with him and the government in general. but in any case, i hope for the sake of the refugees (you hardly hear an american given that term) to find proper lodging and food. hope they can settle down and start anew quickly. but i suppose it's true that the americans were probably ill-prepared for this storm. everything seemed to responded to it slowly in the beginning. not that it's a good thing, it's not really, but minus all that terrorists, and the americans still face situations like this that caught them off-guard. maybe it's a sign for them to "cut it out", which ever way you wish to interpret that...

Independent Starfleet Academy Training Center for Internet Security

i'm guilty. i spent several hours on this site. what do they have? they have 16 levels of pages you are suppose to crack to get to the next stage with increasing difficulty. and finally i'm done! cool site. but with the use of all that javascript it's not that engaging. only the end parts like the htaccess stuff was a bit more challenging... and of course the last stage was a real nutcracker.

uh... ok so other than that today was a fruitful and happy day. mostly. my lab lesson in the morning? they gave us 2 tasks to complete. i completed 90% and got marked. so i got my 1 mark anyway. but i decided to finish it up and apparently i'd managed to complete the lab exercises! for once! wow! *throws confetti* maybe these concepts were easier to understand for me, or maybe the lecturer heeded our pleas and made the lab exercises less difficult. i will never know. lol... but at least it's sorted out. yay~

i've got more assignments coming out! so it's going to be more torture. more work. but it seemed like time flew past damn fast these few weeks! was i so swamped with work i didn't notice the time passing?? real fast... coming back real soon...

bummer day!

i was half working and half mucking around! i'm getting on slowly with not much progress in my php. and i think i better get started on it. so i'll set aside my project stuff. screwy php. i'm not used to it!~ oh well anyway here're some of the stuff i'd surfed upon today.

A volvo SUV made of Lego but i can't tell if it's real.
some kubrick ipod holder from HMV which has better description in english here. it's pretty cute if u asked me.

in other news, over at new orleans, i find it shocking. the thought of armed gangs roaming the streets without a hint of remorse raping, killing, looting and robbing in a district devastated by mother nature. to think that they are in the land of the free (or whatever they call themselves now) and there they are given all the freedom they want, and abusing it taking advantage of the situation. tsk. my condolences to the families of the deceased caused by the storm.

earliest ever

i woke up at 8+ this morning. which was... damn early for a saturday morning. i think i woke to go pee and decided not to sleep anymore. and i've been on my computer since. somebody is probably feeling better now. he got himself a brand new mini ipod! due to a series of unfortunate events. or so i quote. the chances of recovering jason's mp3 player was very slim, so he decided to grab himself a new one. so yeah. 6gigs, blue, apple. lol i think we popped in and out of that shop at least 4 times today. once before we hit the supermarket, another 3x after dropping by the uni another time, each time with new questions on his mind. hahaha... but at least he's got the new toy now. ^^

i don't seem to be very productive today. didn't seem like i had anything achieved. -sigh- will try again tomorrow i guess...

breezy day~

i... got up before 8 this morning. but i was late nevertheless. HAHAHA... aiya blame my tummy lah. stomachache also sit on the throne for so long. sorry ah today feel a bit singlish so type a bit chor lor. so i went to school for the 8.30 lecture... at 8.45 i guess. jason was back from his routine trip to the uni gym before i left the house. and he was "(why) are you still around?" wondering if i was still sleeping.

the lecture wasn't all that interesting and i slept through a quarter of it =x then it ended and i carried on the 2nd half of the other lecture as usual. and apparently today's topic was security (duh... every week also security... this subject is *about* security) which was related to terrorists. kind of reminds of the familiar terms used in the army. but of course i can't go around telling people here i'm trained in that sort of stuff. hahaha... well uh anyway he was being emotive and highly animated as per normal. and surprisingly the lecturer reached his last slide early! haha because previously he never did seem to manage to finish on time and to the last slide. mostly because he's got so many things to talk about (as jason describes "inspirational messages") he normally goes overtime slightly. and he'd have to rush through the final slides.

the lab after the 1hour break (which was after the 1hr tutorial) was about PHP, working with database for today. i didn't read the question beforehand (i did for the previous lab exercises. they would normally be released a week ahead of the actual lab lesson) and worked on it in the lab. i took my time to decorate it nicely and stuff (hehehe) and showed the tutor. but then again jason's version would probably have looked 10x nicer, hands down. hehehe... the chinese national beside me was not very clueful about how these stuff work. the exercise included an example username, to which we were suppose to replace with our own. he copied it wholesale. *faints* and the tutor took a while to debug what was wrong with his scripts. well ok the point is, i left an hour early. so did jason coincidentally.

and sadly, it seemed he forgot and left his thumbdrive in that lab when he left. his 1-gig-mp3-player-with-plenty-of-documents-and-loads-of-music thumbdrive. i hope for his sake it's still there. or at least someone kind enough to pass it to the security/lab techs. firstly it's a bit unwieldy to use as a thumbdrive because he needs the short usb extension from me to plug into the front of the dell PCs in school (otherwise it won't fit in that compartment) and it won't work as an mp3 player unless the person can get hold of the mp3 player adaptor. and yes, he's got that other half with him now. and it's a saturday tomorrow. tsk.

heave a sigh of relief (just a teensy one)

i woke up and made 2 slices of bread with nutella. i ate halfway and was working on computer and placed it on the bed. and then after a while, i looked to my bed and wondered "oh was i eating the bread, and haven't finish eating it yet?" my goodness! i FORGOT the BREAD was still there!!! *faints* ok so i promptly finished it up. it was rather cold and hard already.

we met the client for our project today. crappy. jason did his demo and they were pretty happy with how things are going. they didn't seem too interested in my administrator module anyway when i showed mine. at least this should keep them happy for 2 weeks.

oh and i realised that ComEx is here again! in singapore that is. :( it's held in suntec Sept 1-4! pity i won't be able to go... however i've heard comments from people saying it's not that fantastic. kekeke... *sour grapes*

oh and i just finished writing up an XML file with definitions inside. my first time! and although it wasn't really necessary, i did it anyway so i can get a feel of things in XML . it's not that difficult but i should at least have a grasp of it.

will have to start on my PHP stuff soon. i'd better be on target for my own deadlines.

*JAX JAX! xD*
