meeting the client for our annual project tomorrow to show them what we've done so far. been working on my bits so am pretty much bogged down by that for now.
i'd actually emailed the Opers of Galaxynet to ask them if they have any provisions for preventing botnets. that was yesterday night. then they replied me (well one of them actually) and i had a short conversation with him. he was asking me for suggestions (so technically my question wasn't really answered) to which i replied with a particular suggestion. it may not be any more difficult for botnet owners to circumvent this method but at least it'll be an additional step they will have to take. any deterrence is good deterrence.
what i'd suggested was for every client (human) that connects, to be sent a captcha. a captcha is really some form of an image. some of you may have come across it while registering at a website. it's meant to verify that you are human (even though someone can try using a program that recognises characters through OCR) before allowing you to proceed.
on irc it's a bit different. everything is in text. so why not let the ASCII art do it's job. i suggested that each client upon first connection to be sent one such ascii art captcha. they'll be allowed through the "doorway" proxy when they reply with a correct phrase. of course it'll not be 100% foolproof. the network will have to commit that little bit more resources to keep track of user ident/ip address pairs when they first connect.
given the current trend that broadband is available (in singapore at least) quite easily, most people would have less static dynamic ip addresses. this means their ip addresses can change. but only if they turn their computers off and back on after some time. if an irc user stays online all the time, even if the person gets disconnected, the ip address will more likely than not remain the same. the network can keep track of this address to have been "verified" by the human user and not require captcha verification again. it can be therefore assumed that the human users need only do this verification once. and not-so-occasionally when they reboot their (cable/dsl) modems. not that much of a hassle would it?
what about dial-up users? what about them? they've got dynamic ip addresses each time they come in. ah, but they come online only when the user dials up and therefore is using the computer. i can't see how a internet user who had decided on using dial-up over other services of higher bandwidth to stay online indefinitely. the phone bill, for one, will be skyhigh.
for the malicious users, they will have less access to those zombie computers. firstly, the botnet they have control over, will have to wait for input from their owner before they can connect to this irc network. and connections from zombie computers won't get through because they wouldn't know how to verify the captcha prompt. at least until someone decides to install some ASCII art OCR on these zombies that is...
well at least the above was just a thought. i expressed it to cybernaut. not sure if he took me seriously. but at least he bothered replying. that's one step. taking my suggestion into consideration for implementing is another. let's make things better!~ i'm starting to think that my time hanging around in irc machiam a bit like community service HAHAHA... =x

one wave after another
ladies and gentlemen, i'd just survived that C++ programming disaster. now i'm experiencing the next wave of events. more programming. of which is bad enough because it had been badly forestalled by the C++ incident. i haven't been very productive in my annual project mostly due to that.
brain is not in eloquent mode now. can't type anything without thinking about JSP.

it was shiok!
i'm here to talk about yesterday. about my only lesson yesterday. it was a lab lesson in the morning. there were 3 tasks to complete.
so i began working on the first task, mostly pseudo codes that's not suppose to work. just bits of codes. and answering some theoretical questions.
then came the second part. it was half hour into the start of the lesson. apparently this concept was more familiar to me, inheritance of class objects. so i started typing out some stuff and strangely i knew what to do! i was happy. applying a bit of logic stuff from java into this C++ implementation, i had to type out "abstract" classes and "child" classes and things like that. of course i was referring to the lecture slides as well. i took probably about an hour and i tried compiling it. it seemed i had not a lot of errors. had to consult the tutors twice or so (to me not counted as a lot ba... if not i'd have kept asking them more frequently than that) and it compiled nicely! then had to sort out some bugs and it ran nicely. sweet. and by then i had about 15mins left to the end of the lesson. the tutor came around to mark, saw me with my task 2 and was pleased. so he marked me and left me alone. i was still mucking around (others who he had marked had left already) and he came back to mark another guy beside me.
"and are you done with yours yet?" he asked me when he was done with that guy. "oh it's you i thought i marked you already!" well ok he said something to that effect. he was basically asking what was i doing still hanging around haha... hrmm so yeah that's the whole story. pointless yes, amused me definitely, entertain you probably it won't.

Residents bring up 'white elephant' Buangkok Station during minister's visit
actually my point is not in the actual content of the article. it included a small portion at the bottom.
and i quote:
orgasm organism feeding on... well whatever we have. then these radical elements get bounced off. so we have "absorb" them back in. makes me feel like a zombie.
"join... us..." and then i'll wave at the person in slow motion... "join... us..."
speaking of which, my brother told me some stuff yesterday. it was about my grandmother's passing. i didn't type it last night cos... well you know how these things get. haha no lah i not pantang. i was trying to get the buggeration of a program to compile.
it was mostly to do with her funeral wake.
you guys know what is you tiao(油条) right? those chinese salty donut strips of flour(or whatever they are made of). my brother-in-law bought some for everyone in my family for breakfast the day they were sending her off to the crematorium from the funeral parlour. the sun was shining and the sky was raining. freaky weather if you ask me. so anyway, the priest asked my family to throw one of them you tiao's out, to make the rain stop. my sis threw one on the pavement. it didn't stop raining. then the priest picked it up and threw it on to the road. i'm not sure how long it took, but apparently the rain stopped soon after. =_=" according to my brother, my sis started crying then. probably freaked out. he said each of my family members cried (at different times) but i'll elaborate on this later.
the next incident. one of my cousins had a dream. my grandmother told her that her urn was not seated properly so she could not return (to wherever). the family hired a priest to perform the rites once again at her lot in the columbarium. they had to place a coin at the bottom of the urn in order to keep it stable.
it was the 7th day (头七) (2 days ago i think), to which it is believed that my grandmother would return to our home for one last time. my family cooked some food and left it on the dining table(i think) and everyone was to go to bed. they were all rather nervous, with conflicting emotions. so it seemed that they all couldn't sleep much. on one hand, they were curious if anything was going to happen. my brother was jittery about things that go bump in the night (for that night only of course). on the other hand they were scared to know if things really will happen. my family does not have experiences with paranormal events that i know of. but anyway my brother-in-law stayed to keep my sis company. and when it was morning, my parents checked the rice on the table. it was untouched. people say if it was moved/looked different from when it was placed, that the deceased had returned for one last meal. guess it wasn't going to happen. oh man were u expecting something to happen?! hahaha...
of course we'd all understand that, being our grandmother, she had her fill of life and wouldn't harm us in anyway. at least that's our belief. haha... oh yeah please note that my family doesn't follow much religion. this is what my parents call a "chinese tradition". just an ancestral thing. i can't say that i believe in the afterlife. or souls. or paranormal stuffus. but neither will i deny their existence. i'm taking a neutral stand, until i experience such stuff personally, or it is proven to me that these stuff don't exist. so no offence to anyone yeah?
and i quote:
Said Dr Balakrishnan, "What we are most worried about is students who drop out of school, and then they have nothing to do, hang around the void decks and get engaged in undesirable activities and their future is lost . Everybody, everybody must go beyond secondary schools. If your have dropped out now, please look for ways to get back into schools and come to the MPs and community and we will get you reintegrate into the education system."notice something? "we will get you reintegrate(d) into the education system", he said. no it's not the grammatical mistake. i just find it sounds so wrong to "reintegrate" a person with "the (education) system"... i can imagine singaporeans are one symbiotic
"join... us..." and then i'll wave at the person in slow motion... "join... us..."

VICTORY IS AT HAND!
well ok actually i'd gotten victory already. it's now practically 2am!
YES!!! i solved the bloody assignment! the WHOLE ASSIGNMENT. which is worth a measly 6 marks. uh well yea i fixed the problem bugging me for the past THREE FUCKING DAYS! i realised i was getting no where at task 2 so i decided to scrap the old file and picked up from after task 1 again. considering task 1 was a "checkpoint" meaning everything worked fine and the stuff compiles. and it eventually worked out. adding on to that was the fact that this HD high flyer of a person in irc was around (eventually) and helped me in the last part quite a bit! at last i'm done with this assignment... *wipes forehead* -phew- i was nearly thinking that i had to submit partially complete work... and get miserable marks. apparently i'd been asking around for help, posting questions in the subject forum, asking around somemore... to not much use. seems the only person who i successfully get useful information from was that same person i mentioned earlier. LOL...
*throws confetti all around*
and now i'll have to get on to *other* stuff to be settled!
as you can see, for these past few days i don't have much time to blog anyway. buggering around with C/C++ codes. but hey at least i try to read everyone else's blogs k... even though i no time to chat a lot with anyone. so sorry!

arghh
this is frustrating. how many days has it been in a row? i'm still stuck on that bloody C++ programming problem. no idea what's going on with my miniscule skills. and it's due on monday at 5pm. oh well i'll just rant the tech problem here.
i was asking this person nicknamed incubus for help in msn... wonder if he'll ever get back to me on it. in time.
i was asking this person nicknamed incubus for help in msn... wonder if he'll ever get back to me on it. in time.
| 8:50:54 PM | ok a little background to this... the program was written in C, we had to get it debugged, compiled and running. then we have to convert to C++. - have to use new/delete instead of malloc/free. - use inline functions instead of #define - use iostream/fstream instead of stdio |
| 8:51:41 PM | the program is suppose to merge 2 16bit wave files together |
| 8:52:06 PM | i've got a struct with a short* member called "channel" that stores the actual data (apart from the header info) |
| 8:54:04 PM | there's this function that allocates memory for the channel to which i'm using (not sure if it's correct) short* s = new short(NSAMPLE(w ) * BALIGN(w )); CHANNEL(w, s); where NSAMPLE and BALIGN returns int values of the other members in that struct |
| 8:56:39 PM | let's take it that the input files to be merged are fileA and fileB, where the output will be fileX there will be this memcpy after the memory allocation is done memcpy((void*)&(fileX)->channel, (void*)&(fileA)->channel, (NSAMPLE(fileA)*BALIGN(fileA))); the same goes for fileB. |
| 8:58:08 PM | so basically i'm getting segmentation fault for this memcpy, and after testing it seems the max the memcpy function can copy into fileX is 2816bytes. the seg fault shows at 2817bytes and onwards |
| 8:59:18 PM | and i realised the short* s = new short[whatever_number]; gives the same problem as with short* s = new short; |
| 9:04:22 PM | the short* channel member is access by inline short* CHANNEL(const WAVE* w) return (w )->channel; i'm not sure if this is related but the mutator(set method) is inline void CHANNEL(WAVE* w, short* x) (w )->channel = x; |

don't mind me
i'm just trying to trouble shoot this damn program that's not working. oh check out this ExtremeMusic.com they've got tons of cool soundtracks you can listen to... i'm feeling incoherent today so what i say probably don't make sense. but then again my daily rants can't get any worse...

stupid stuff about Ken #2
to demonstrate how ignorant and silly i was(and probably still am), here are some things i had misconceptions about when i was young:-
i guess jason is right. i'm one of the apathetic lot. oh the humanity~ "where did the good people goOoOooo... oh oh..."
- "antique" was pronounced as an-tick-cue - no matter how my siblings tried correcting me, i insisted it was said that way...
- "minus" was pronounced meen-ooz - i think i missed out on this because i went to the little boys' room when math class started. and i believe i came back asking everyone "hey what's that meen-ooz thing about?"
- i used to believe fillet (as in fillet o' fish, fillet mignon etc) only referred to fish meat, as in the boneless whitemeat you only get from fish.
- *ahem* you may wish to skip this point. i used to think that little boys and girls all have the same organ for peeing, which as far as i knew in existence was the penis (eew ladyboys!). and there i was wondering how humans do that thing called "sex". i was having a total misconception! HAHAHA... so much for sex education. fact is i don't think i ever got any! darn secondary school practically skipped that chapter.
- 血 - i'll have you believe i only recalled it being pronounced as "xue" and was hardly aware of the other pronounciation "xie". Silk proved me wrong on that point. hahaha
i guess jason is right. i'm one of the apathetic lot. oh the humanity~ "where did the good people goOoOooo... oh oh..."
why did the duck cross the road?
beats me. i forgot to post this yesterday.
i saw a duck.
it had luck.
oh bah enough with the rhyming. so anyway it was in school, as was i. it was on the other side of the road on the pavement with its partner. and then it decided to stroll on to the tarmac. there were cars going in either direction. and this lady driver had to stop and WAIT for the duck to move along before she could drive on. the pedestrians(me) were amused at the sight. the duck waddled to let the car pass, and this time it was facing the other direction of vehicles. this other driver stopped for it, and let it pass *waddle waddle* and reached my side of the road. the people around the area who noticed the sight were very much amused.
oh yeah and apparently i just managed to compile this stupid C++ program. alas, it doesn't work as nicely. it's got runtime errors. but hey at least it compiled without errors! i'll have to sort this out and move on to part 3 of the assignment (if i manage to) and submit this by monday 5pm. -sigh-

yippee
i've got it settled. i'll be on the flight back to singapore from sydney on the 14th November! it's a monday anyway. and apparently by the time i reach terminal 1 it'll be approximately 11pm. grandma's 100th day anniversary is on the 20th, which means i've got a week ahead. i initially had wanted to return on the 18th. things changed (for the better i suppose) and i'm returning on 14th.
again, today was spent partially on some silly web design, followed by much frustrated debugging of programming codes. i'm converting this C program into C++. and since i'm totally inept at either of these, i'm stumbling a lot and asking tons of people for advice. unfortunately i can't get hold of really nice and knowledgeable people to help me learn. raymond said he could get hold of someone who could do the work, but it'd be pointless since i won't be learning. silly. oh well back to my stumbling...

eek
just came out of shower and i just punctured my index finger, a small hole in my finger tip. ouch. wood splinter i believe... while putting back the towel.
anyway, today was just like any other day, except that i finally got that dumb report printed out. which means i basically had it settled already. now on to greater things... and i realise i have tons more stuff yet to complete. these things are endless...
and my uni got first in teaching or something like that. that's what they claimed lah... the article is here.

incomplete again
it's monday, and as usual, i didn't manage to complete my lab exercise tasks. =_= but apparently the silly tutor marked me a full mark for whatever i'd worked on. i managed to get started on the C programming assignment stuff. managed to find some useful help on IRC, and miraculously in #TP. of all places. useful. can't associate that with the channel... hehehe and considering that person got a distinction in programming, i should be honoured.
and i'm once again thinking that i'm about to complete this stupid report. i think i dropped at least 800 words. to make space for the more important stuff. and i think i'm still in excess. which is always a good thing. just that i believe a lot of these i still have are important points.
plenty of things to do... hope i can settle them all (in time)!

at last!
i think. i think i'm done with this one dumb report. i think i'd done it with rather irrelevant content though. but it seems so nonsensical i don't feel like changing any of it already... so there!
right about now i'll probably have to start working on that assignment for my C programming. wish me luck cos i have absolutely no clue how to start. :(
as i have guessed, according to this article, there are spies in Al-Qaeda. spies sent by the british no less. you can almost imagine the suspense and action this james bond-type "informant" gets from all that risky work. and supposedly the plans to gas the british government has been routed. which is good thing of course. infiltration is an art. and being able to thwart the plans of these enemies of the world is a satisfaction in its own right. nevermind the fast cars, fancy gadgets and babes you'd meet along the way. then again, the informant could just have been a muslim, sympathetic to the western *ahem* wealthier countries or was hired for this purpose, and thus entered the underground organisation to get the inside scoop.

faq
little known info bit about me: sometimes when i stretch or adjust my limbs, the joints make popping sounds, similar to that when i crack my knuckles. this sound can occur
*sing to me, sing*
- at my hip/leg joint, when i do groin stretching (putting my soles together)
- knee joints, when i bend or squat
- elbow joints, when i happen to stretch my arms
- neck, when i do neck rotation and jerk suddenly in the opposite direction
- ankle joints, when i rotate my ankles
- big toe joints, when i stretch and they feel irritated (aka needs popping) i curl up my big toe and push my foot forward
- spine, rarely, but it happens, when i stretch my back

what's wrong...?
my grandma passed away, subsequently i learnt from the people around me that somebody they know passed away just these few days ago too. it appears to me there's a lot of death going around town these days. what's going on man?
oh and i didn't quite notice this new feature with blogger. uh well yeah you probably won't notice it either if you read my blog. so there's this new feature, they call it "Flag (this blog)". it seems blogger want us to help them. in exchange for free space to pour out our thoughts, they'll appreciate us helping them by bringing to their attention, blogs that are of questionable content. what do they mean by questionable? i won't think they'd see a couple of opposition party voicing out their grievances as questionable. probably something like spammers and advertisers. you won't notice them unless you blogsurf. when you do happen to blogsurf(meaning you click on that "next blog" button at the top of each blogger page), you'll often come across these blogs with content that hardly make any sense! then you'll be asking yourself if you had stumbled upon a parallel dimension. then you realise the content is spam material, or it is aimed at causing certain websites to show up at more prominent locations when people search for a particular keyword in google. well at least that's what i figure they are used for.
speaking of spammers, have they not figured it out by now? i mean, spammers sell products. but why do these products persist to send out spam??? any commercial business would easily put two and two together to figure out spamming would give the consumers a freaking negative image of your company, and hence lowering sales wouldn't it?! how do they (the product makers, not spammers) expect to earn anything that way? in the words of Agent Smith from The Matrix,
"Why?! WHY do you PERSIST?!"
hopefully i'm completing this annoying report/proposal. the details given to us for it is rather shady and jason isn't the least happy with what the lecturer had been replying in his emails. i'm clueless too. but i'll just do what i think is appropriate. seriously. i doubt the lecturer would go through every single one of the reports we all submitted. that's too much work. it doesn't add up at all! unless his ballsless tutors are assigned to do the dirty deed and comparing the documents with a checklist. *shrugs* we shall see.
anybody familiar with C programming? not C++. C. i've got not a clue how to get started on this assignment. it's due next monday (after the proposal bullshit) and i'm wondering how to start on it. at least i figure i'll settle this nonsense first... at least i know where i'm headed. and i think i'm finishing soon.
oh and i didn't quite notice this new feature with blogger. uh well yeah you probably won't notice it either if you read my blog. so there's this new feature, they call it "Flag (this blog)". it seems blogger want us to help them. in exchange for free space to pour out our thoughts, they'll appreciate us helping them by bringing to their attention, blogs that are of questionable content. what do they mean by questionable? i won't think they'd see a couple of opposition party voicing out their grievances as questionable. probably something like spammers and advertisers. you won't notice them unless you blogsurf. when you do happen to blogsurf(meaning you click on that "next blog" button at the top of each blogger page), you'll often come across these blogs with content that hardly make any sense! then you'll be asking yourself if you had stumbled upon a parallel dimension. then you realise the content is spam material, or it is aimed at causing certain websites to show up at more prominent locations when people search for a particular keyword in google. well at least that's what i figure they are used for.
speaking of spammers, have they not figured it out by now? i mean, spammers sell products. but why do these products persist to send out spam??? any commercial business would easily put two and two together to figure out spamming would give the consumers a freaking negative image of your company, and hence lowering sales wouldn't it?! how do they (the product makers, not spammers) expect to earn anything that way? in the words of Agent Smith from The Matrix,
*shrugs* we shall see.

buried
i'm buried in work! spending half a day in school was not very productive. especially if the lectures were barely understood. the tutorial was nonsense, and the lab was done before i went to class.
i'm working on a 3000 word essay now. plenty of words to bullshit about an organisation. and recommendations for this and that.
about my grandmother. today is the last day of the funeral wake. or to put it more politically correct, it's the last night. come tomorrow morning 11am-ish (SGT) they're going to remove her from Singapore Casket down in Lavender, and bring her for cremation. subsequently she'd be moved to the columbarium where her lot is already booked way back. so to that end, my grandmother will have her ashes positioned side by side with the rest of my grandparents: my dad's father, my great grandfather, and my mum's parents. hope she'd enjoy their company, and play mahjong or something...
my dad sounded ok on the phone. i called them earlier on. apparently this friend of mine (who incidentally graduated from some other uni in australia, and has since returned to finish his 2months of National Service) spotted the car i so often drive, parked behind the Hotel 81 Lavender. he was probably amused obviously. that was until i told him the higher possibility of my parents over at the funeral parlour than getting some action in a flimsy hotel room. i called my brother, since i'd figure my dad might not be in a condition to answer any calls. apparently my call was passed around and i ended up talking to most of my family, my mum, dad, brother and sister. just short of my sis-in-law and ryan. guess everything seems fine... so far. and apparently everyone's been showing up. the relatives. minus me. :(
*let's wait till monday and see how things goes*

gosh i'm going to be deadmeat!
i've got deadlines coming in... i don't know if it's a good thing. might be. i hope. think. at least with all these things flooding me i don't think i'm in a position to feel sad or unhappy about the death of my grandmother at all.
i've got people asking me if i'm going back to singapore to attend the wake or something.
"i'm not sure."
"i don't know."
those are the usual replies i can muster up. if i do pop back to singapore for a few days, i'd still have to consult my parents. it _is_ their money i'm using to fly back and forth after all. but quite frankly i don't think any of that is possible. here's a short list of reasons (yes i like to make lists):-
*apologies. i probably would have less time this coming week or so...*

- i can't get an air ticket within short notice
- if i do i'd probably be suckered for all i'm worth
- my parents will probably ask me not to go back just like that
- even if i do go back i can only pay my respect to my grandmother
- i can visit her at the columbarium when i complete my course of studies
- my parents would want me to settle my studies first
- my grandmother would want me to do well too
- i'd fall behind in my studies if i return
- action costs more than inaction
- there're deadlines due soon
- C programming due 29th Aug Monday - i totally suck at this subject, and i'm familiar with neither C nor C++. i'm doomed!!!
- A 3000 word (max) essay due 25th Aug Thursday - it's actually on a security policy of my choice for an SME (or a university) within the Aussie context.
- Programming this forum for my annual project due 1st Sept(or whenever we meet our client to show them) - frankly i'd been working the most on this. rather impractical of me i must admit. but it seems the most straightforward thing to do.
*apologies. i probably would have less time this coming week or so...*

how?
frankly, after today's news flash, i'm not sure how to react.
i'm confused. this is the first incident of a close family member passing away, since... well i guess since when my mum's mother passed away. the others i were aware of included the wife of my elder cousin on my dad's side, the husband of one of my mum's elder sister, and my grandmother's cousin who incidentally departed just last year.
so yes... it *should* be a good thing i'm not _experienced_ in this kind of emotion. i'm trying to feel dejected. but at the same time i'm trying to convince myself not to be sad, primarily because i'd have to focus on my studies. i think i'm basically trying not to care about the whole situation because if i started to think deep into it i'd actually start feeling distracted and upset. so i blockaded the whole episode of unhappiness...
i hate it when i start over-analysing things. especially in this case. but i'm prone to being rational and practical. probably feeling angry at myself for all this confusion i'm creating for myself... rather miffed. and helpless...?
goodness i've got the whole variety of feelings ALL AT ONCE!!! totally screwed up. hope i'm not raving mad.
may you rest in peace grandma... i'm sorry we didn't care for you all that much, leaving most of the caring to the maid. but everyone i'm sure feels sad that you'd left. i won't say it's a bad thing... but given all the ailments and sicknesses you had suffered throughout old age, you'll be more at peace now that you are gone. no more pain... we'll miss you. sorry this grandson isn't coming back to see you one last time... i'll visit you when i graduate and return to singapore...

there'd been a lot of deaths going around lately
is this the time of the year when the grim reaper goes around collecting his dues? i guess it *is* the seventh month in the oriental lunar calendar after all. of late i've heard about so many people who had their family members departing i was starting to feel jaded "oh not another one"... that is until today. now. right now.
about 15minutes ago, i was informed of a piece of news by my mum on msn video conference. the news happened this morning. my grandmother passed away. according to my mum as well, she'd complained of stomach pains last night, after dinner. they admitted her to hospital. when my parents went to visit her this morning, the doctors could not revive my grandmother. she was 93. they said she left with the look of mother theresa on her.
first time after a long while, that somebody close to me passed away. i'm rather clueless/confused/directionless now. i'm not sure how i feel. sad? frustrated? dejected? depressed? desire to cry? i can only use pent-up for now. perhaps, the news hadn't sinked in inside my head yet.
alas, life must go on. the course must be completed. at least i went back to sg in june and saw her. *cue sad violin piece*

busy!
eek. the lecture in the morning got me scratching my head about the stuff the lecturer's teaching. but heck at least i stayed awake 99%! wow amazing to have 99% uptime! hahaha... and then i wasted 1.5hr at home troubleshooting some weird fluke for my tomcat server. so i couldn't do much else because i'd have to go for my next lesson (although it's kinda voluntary). and this angmoh guy who i sit next to, i couldn't recall at all, that he was my group member in another class for another subject! *smacks forehead* "i'm in your group silly!" so paiseh sia all this while i was kind of wondering... so coincidental. these 2 classes got an angmoh with some blood clot in his eye. *faint* uh yeah he was in some accident or something. the blood clot is in the white of the eye, pretty much like what i had during my lasik.
i'm counting my tasks. i've got a number of assignments to do. hope i can complete those stuff all on time! *stress* there's this subject i'd chosen to do a project over an essay. thinking back i'm wondering if it was the right choice. for one, project will be challenging to build. and another, i was thinking of this essay that i could have written, related to the topic of zombie computers in the wild, botnets, spammers and abuse of the Internet in general. seems like such a fascinating topic really.

last to leave
my only gripe for today: me being one of the last to leave the lab lesson i had in the morning. the 2 hour lesson had me going into overtime for at least 10-20minutes. i could choose to leave at 1130, though that would mean i'd be awarded 0.6 marks out of the full 1 mark. so i decided to stay and get my full mark. i wasn't able to complete all the tasks even then. the tutor was nice enough to let me pass because i did 2 of the 3 tasks. it's rather saddenning that i can't complete the lab tasks. and this is already the second one i failed to complete!
in the meantime, check out this security site in singapore.
just this afternoon, i was under attack. in irc that is. this person instructed his botnet to send me private messages, ping me, and send me notices. and they also mass-joined a channel i hang around in. after getting excess flood twice, i wised up and placed a blanket ignore mask. and then i activated a script that limited the people joining the channel at any one time. botnets are scary in a way. it allows their owner to abuse the networks, either for fun or profit. the zombie computers can be called upon to send tons of spam, or even declare a Distributed Denial of Service on a particular host on the Internet. an organisation similar to the security.org.sg, honeynet.org attempts to observe the behaviours of these malicious users. i'm not sure why but i find their work rather amazing. what these people do is basically set up a simulated environment which attracts attackers to connect to their system and do their dirty stuff, without realising they are being monitored.
it's probably not a good thing, but here's a what-if i wish to materialise. what if, somebody was able to hack the hackers. and then this person can subsequently take over the zombie computers aka the mass of botnet PCs. next, release a virus to this botnet which will attempt to propagate the virus. what can the virus do? good things of course! what if this virus essentially scans a system for backdoors left open by hackers. then it attempts to patch the system (HAHAHA but it's a thought isn't it?) and if it fails to do so, it crashes the system, formats the system files(not the user files), or something to that effect. and while doing so, the virus can also leave a note for the owner of the system stating that the system is infected (well duh if the system crashed the owner better take notice!) and it should be patched and fixed asap.
well hey it's a what-if afterall. given that the first what-if happens it would be much more effective since the control of the systems would then be rendered useless because the password had been changed. and the hackers won't have access to those zombies. the virus would probably be rather destructive in a sense, so it might not be safe to be released at all. but hey, at least it'll force people to stand up and take notice.
oh dear i'm ranting as usual...
*why of course! the one and only!*

NONPOST!
yes this post is a nonpost. a nonpost is essentially not really a blog posting. it exists only when i don't have anything in particular to post about so hence a nonpost. i'm going to be buried in stuff to do for my assignments and stuff. hope i can come up for air soon.
Car blast kills one in Turkey, botched bomb plot suspected
hrmm... makes one wonder. could the US or whatever mercenarious organisation for justice and freedom of the world had infiltrated the terrorists? there had been a number of failed suicidal bomb attacks of late. should the infiltrator(s) have went under the covers, the person(s) could jolly well have sabotaged all their plans to detonate the devices on time, thus botching all their suicidal plans. then again, the terrorists aren't all that smart, so they can also get killed when left to their own devices too...quite literally HAHAHA

a day like no other
that day is not today. hahaha...
apparently SRNathan had no fight. and the voting citizens of singapore probably won't get to exercise their vote this round again. read it here.
in other news, ken had been lying in bed whole day typing away at some codes. done with one half, he's now moving on to the second part which is also the tougher part...
oh and about yesterday, i had 2 presentations. real dumb. first one was the 10minutes for 10 slides. apparently there was some changes and the anal tutor of all things, she had to request that we *had* to have all our info in exactly 10 slides, inclusive of the title and references pages. wtf?! after i went home i checked with jason and he said the lecturer(who headed this subject) who was also his tutor did no such thing and was rather open about it because some girl had loads of slides and exceeded the whole damn 10mins by quite a bit.
next, the 3minute presentation. seriously, who'd ever heard of presentations lasting 3minutes. so anyway the whole class had to present their project/essay proposals. some people did projects(programming) and some did essay(crapping). some people presented with PowerPoint slides, some had overhead transparencies, some drew diagrams on the whiteboard, and some did stand-up comedy. these people actually came unprepared, and end up going to the front of the class and talking about their proposal empty handed. more stuff that irked me:
ah heck. that is about all there was. all that i could remember that is.
oh i think i recalled... that... i woke up about 1pm or something today... haha... amazing.
*uhhh*

sg gov wants to *help* indo
hehe... read the article. we're gonna *help* them develop their oil industry. oh... what benefits that will bring to us... i'll probably agree that now for anyone from sg to invest in indonesia would probably be a good choice, since the gov is promoting it and all...
high tech keyboard (how much more high tech can keyboards get?)
some russian company is coming up with this. it's a high tech keyboard. how? go see... for starters, the "letters" under each of the keys can be changed. this means it can be used on macs and windows, inclusive of the funny control key either OS has. photoshop users can also have their shortcuts shown on the keyboard for easy access. and the gamers... they can have their icons too! it's supposedly coming out in 2006, and the designers claim that yes, it is for real.

postpone this post
i had a lot to rant about for today(partially blame blogger). but unfortunately i'm currently not in the mood so scrap everything for now. i'm going to bed damn it.
goodnight.
ps: today's 2 presentations of mine were ridiculous, silly and rather pointless. waste of time and effort.

goodnight.
ps: today's 2 presentations of mine were ridiculous, silly and rather pointless. waste of time and effort.

busy little bee
ok i'm playing too much on the descriptive words in the title...
ns men are getting 3years off their liability! that's what they say.
so i was busy with my presentation slides today. ah yes finally done. and i had to rehearse quite a bit. i'd always had too much to talk when it's not necessary haha so i always get into overtime. and hey to make things worse, i'd decided to wear nicer! so i'll be sporting a long sleeve shirt with a pair of black pants and shoes. unfortunately i'll probably be walking around with my jacket over everything cos it gets cold and windy. hope presentation turns out fine!
another cool thing, i downloaded this freeware called cygwin/x which lets me connect to the school's internal network to do some of my stuff! yeah and i can load nicer user interface with it!
well i've got nothing further... just wish things go smoothly come morning!
*pray hard hard*

yippee to my ppt!
so goes another day lying in bed. hahaha well ok i was in bed but i wasn't sleeping. i'm working on the 10-slide presentation and doing quite a bit of reading up for the dumb "seminar" which is just another word for presentation. makes it sound more professional perhaps.
i suppose i'm pretty much done. 10 slides of stuff that tries very hard to make sense.
right about now, i can hear the wind howling outside. very strong wind... blowing sudden gusts, stopping as suddenly as it started. it's giving the night a despondent feel to everything. the house is not too affected, but when there is a gust small or big, certain parts of the house would creak. that's the thing with houses built mostly with wood. the difference in singapore is, most buildings are built out of bricks. maybe that's why they cost a bit more. nevertheless, i guess either way of house construction has their pros and cons.
it's not that i didn't realise it before, but i'm somewhat discouraged about the fact that certain things in life cannot be helped. or controlled by oneself. mostly because one would be in some ways out of the boundaries of such things. does anyone sometimes feel that they wish they can simply tell others what to do, what to think, and what to feel? i'm getting this myriad of thoughts in my head i'm not exactly being anywhere close to getting expressive about them. i think these thoughts are basically a disgustingly meshed up pile of messy ideas in my head. bah... not making sense...
howling winds are depressing.
i just found out, EL's mum passed away... today. my condolences to him... he's my ex classmate from TP. she left due to cancer. this is a saddening time of the year. it seemed, just not too long ago nick's mum passed away too. it seemd barely 2weeks plus ago? and my secondary school classmate's grandmother was having some problems too, and didn't seem she's going to last... and...you know who you are... ok enough about all that deaths. i have to admit that death is happening around us all time. but we'll probably be aware of it only if it happens closer to us, and the people around us we care about (and in this case mostly, happening to the people that *these* people care about) that puts the spotlight on the issue. nevertheless, life goes on.
as i was saying... howling winds are depressing.

happy birthday singapore!
well yeah it's national day, but only over in singapore. not here. not much mood for it here. haha... well almost. woolworths the supermarket was like having sale offers on a lot of items and that included the potato chips i buy. so heck i bought 4 big bags of them =x and 2 bottles of 2L coke too wahahaha imagine AUD $1.99 for a bottle of 2L coke how to resist the offer!!! =x so anyway yeah we bought groceries (and my snacks and stuff)...
rewind back to morning, the lecture was dull but the lecturer made a bit of effort in trying to keep us awake and stuff. he succeeded only partially. i drifted off to lala land once in a while throughout the two hours. i must say, for a chinese down under, his english was a lot better than *that* lady we came across who was an associate professor. of course there's always room for improvement. but considering he's a Doctorate i shouldn't be surprised. and he's also one of the senior lecturers with this faculty.
and yeah, about this project proposal i have to submit come thursday, i'm done. at least i hope so. i'm not putting in a whole lot of details just yet because this is just a "preliminary" kind of artifact for the subject. anyway i'd uploaded it to the school subject site. they have this function that allows you to *upload* first, and do your submission of the file(s) separately.
i had another one of those peer-assisted study sessions in the afternoon. i'm pretty glad they had something like this. we're moving into C programming now. and GOODNESS!!! i've got no clue what pointers are and how they are programmed/behave!!! *pulls hair and freaks out* so yeah the rest of the people helped shed light on this topic. and surprisingly my *guess* for a particular question posed to us was correct.
[TECH RANT] the question was: how a double pointer points to a regular pointer. and the answer was something like:-
[OK ENOUGH TECH RANT]
hehe the code looks pretty harmless if you just glance at it like that without actually reading the question fully. we were all rather confused. and i'm glad i answered it right. this means i kind of got the right concepts/ideas about this shit.
and finally, next i have to work on this presentation for friday. i've got loads of reading up to do. the learning resources for this provided about 17 PDF files of "whitepapers" which are essentially research papers (which is probably whitewash anyway) that are each roughly an average of 20 pages long. *both palms to cheeks with mouth gaping* well ok i'll try to read a select few instead of everything. and i'll probably skim through after deciding if it's worth continuing reading, from their abstracts. and then i'll have to gather my own conclusions and put them down on powerpoint slides. and to that, we're limited to 10 slides each. excluding cover page and references at the end of course.
oh speaking of which, i feel i must rant a bit. i'm turning racist against chinese nationals probably... can't open their god damn mouth. i won't mind if they speak broken english. or speak to me in chinese or something. but bloody open up their mouths to communicate lah... small class also so shy meh! ok so we were in the PASS lesson i mentioned earlier on. we had to work on some questions in groups of 3. me and this australian (aka angmoh) and this asian (ok i can't be sure he's from china) were trying to solve the stuff. even though i barely know what was going on. just try lo... but this "asian" (look, i've really got no clue which country he originates... haha) just sat there looking at us do our stuff. LOLOMFGWTFROFLMAOCKP!?! (for those unaware, i decided to come up with that, and added a singapore twist to it. LOL, OMFG, WTF, ROFLMAO, CKP. to which CKP means Chio Ka Peng) *ahem* ok anyway he did jot down the notes after we shared and discuss our answers on the whiteboard with the guide/tutor. sad fact was he was without any notes or lecture slides with him. and he didn't even seemed to be attempting to work something out on his writing pad. wonder how these people expect to pass.
oh yeah passing... i can't believe people (at year 3 level) are asking questions like "so are we suppose to write some HTML and put some dummy data in the site?" for those not in the know, i would answer a huge N-O no to that. ok i should quote the guy who posted that question directly:
so why am i so bothered? because it's year THREE already!!! don't tell me these people actually think that they can survive with simple HTML in a year 3 subject?! *faints*
ah enough with the ranting. happy birthday singapore! i didn't catch the web cast of the national day parade. how heartless! well i was busy reading. :(
*waych waych!*

i didn't complete!
my only lesson today was a lab at 9.30am. it lasted 2hours. and i didn't manage to complete all 3 tasks they gave us to work on. fortunately they counted what i'd done for effort and gave me the mark. or was it that they considered us present that's why they gave us the mark =_= whatever.
so anyway i thought i was happily doing the task 1 with somewhat simple tasks. printing values on to the screen. apparently it wasn't as easy as it seemed. we had to kind of create a simple program that will then be compiled and run to show the results. all this from command line!!! *dies* so yeah to cut it short, i didn't complete task 1. i kind of completed task 2. that was rather easy. then task 3 was... making me have a lot of ??? popping above my head. but i tried. :|
other than that, i'd been doing more and more assignments! well ok maybe not. i'm halfway through a proposal due thursday. and i haven't started on anything for the presentation for friday! *pulls hair* will have to rush through this proposal and start on the presentation. *faints*
it seems i haven't had time to think about anything else much. whole mind has been fixed on finishing all these. eek...
*there is this special type of pudding...*

pent up, messed up, screwed up, and goddamn fucked up
so much for the news reporting.
i thought today would have been uneventful. 'fraid not. i'd been working on this piece of code for my project for the past few days. probably about 2-3 days i guess. it's in javascript. and silly me, of all things, i got it deleted. how did i manage that? to boot, it wasn't recoverable. if it had been i wouldn't have felt so uptight. it was lost, the file. totally pissed, shocked and beyond tears, i started to reconstruct the codes. miraculously i managed to recall most of the things and (dropping extra and useless other codes) was done typing up the codes in about an hour. just picture a person typing away feverishly with a twisted-screwed-up-pek-chek look on his face. so yes i managed to restore what i'd destroyed in record time. but... IT WAS STILL VERY PAIN PAIN!!!
uh ok in other news... i'm feeling confused and disorderly. how so? i'll list them down. i like making lists :)
and i keep forgetting to mention that, jason bought this set of 4 dvds over amazon.com for the dilbert comic. 4 dvds full of its animation and he got it much cheaper than from hmv in singapore. well anyway he's done watching it and it's currently by my bed. not that i'd gotten a chance to check them out yet. will try to when i can though... hey dude if you wanna get them back to watch them again feel free to grab them off my table k? well anyway, i downloaded pseudo-legally this movie "Team America:World Police" online. hahaha goodness this is almost as if i'm admitting to... uh anyway this movie sucks big time. it's downright stupid. i'm glad i didn't go watch it at the cinema HAHAHA... oops =x
weather's feeling nippy lately. i'd resorted to wearing this cold-weather pants to bed. more comfy than my ah-pek style thin-fabric jammies that's suitable for the tropics. i wake up and look in the mirror to find this eskimo-type person. with the comfy pants on, i put on my jacket i wear to school. and i zip up all the way, fully buttoned up. half my face is planted inside the jacket. then picture this hand towel i have with me, covering my hair, forehead and eyes. so i'm left with this narrow slot where my nose is left to breath fresh air. or if i'm really cold, i bury everything and i'm totally covered up. ok that was probably a rather pointless description but you get my point with how i sleep. hahaha too much info perhaps. but hey at least it's not something sleazy! hehe...

- Unix assignment - i submitted it online already, though it's due tomorrow (monday) 5pm, i'd submitted it yesterday. no biggy here. the problem is, psychologically, i'm still confused as to whether i should check my answers *just one last time* and resubmit, in case i've got some wrong answers or something. it's a teensy psychological barrier there...
- 3-page project proposal - it's actually due on thursday. i've got four days to work on it. fortunately it's only 3 pages so hopefully it shouldn't be too tedious. the thing is, there're quite a number of variables to this proposal. they gave us a lot of freeplay in this. or at least that's what they are letting us assume. for example, they said we can use *any* server technology we want, *as long* it is found in the school network. to which that would be only PHP running on Apache with Oracle as the database. rather limited in choices i must say.
- 10-slide presentation - they call it a "seminar" but i prefer "presentation". it's only 10 slides, but we're suppose to read through some stuff before delivering the "seminar" that should be exactly 10minutes long. extra time given up to 30secs. we should not fall below 10mins. how strict! so yes that's like quite a lot of reading up to do, on top of the 3 page proposal.
- main project coding - yes, as continuation of the codes i just restored from scratch, i have to cover the back-end (this was only the front-end of sorts) with more coding which should be done by this week and sadly is barely there.

Russian submarine crew saved after British rescue intervention
well at least this side was covered. case closed right? it's good that nobody was hurt in this mishap lo... i don't know why but of late i've been rather concerned with maritime and aeronautical accidents which quite frankly shouldn't really bother me one bit. maybe it's because of all these deaths going around so often. nobody wants more people dying right? right???
from the lyrics of a track from limp bizkit, i quote...
"i know why you wanna hate me, 'cause hate is all the world has even seen lately..."
haha i'm feeling melodramatic i guess

At least 13 dead as Tunisian plane crashes off Sicily
what we don't need is more people dying out at sea, and having plane crashes dotting the oceans... at least most of the people (more than half) are alive... i think. seems like civilisation is crumbling and our creations are failing on us! -panics-

uh...
imagine a day when i sit around on the bed facing the laptop... nothing special right? yup. you've got it. racking my brain over some project thing. kinda brain dead. but oh well i managed to play a bit of gunbound today. and surprisingly, because of that postcard event i did some time back, people are adding me, just because. and they are males (i think) trying to pick me up. under the impression i'm some chick of course. =_= hahaha ok so maybe i'm thinking too much, but yes there're people adding me more often because of that. in gunbound i mean.
uh i also read this article about a russian sub. they are currently trapped underwater. deep. people are trying to rescue them. and fortunately for them, the russian government decided to call for external help asap this time. good for them. hope the crew gets rescued in time.
oh and i came across this way cool site. i loved that part about google hacking. certain parts for example mentions about how other people contribute to the site about webcams which are currently online. then you follow the links and if you get lucky you can find one webcam that you can control and move around to check out the outdoor scenery of a country on the other side of the globe! real neat! and of course, not to forget the various security loopholes brought about by the way google functions as a spider grabbing any information it can find, thus sensitive information can also be found easily.
ah that's what i'd been surfing on for today... other than my school stuff...

yet another busy day
i skipped the second half of my first subject again, this time much earlier. supposedly the second subject was going to have a "guest lecturer". bullshit. i kinda regretted doing that. should have stayed on the first lecture because it has more technical stuff. this second lecture... the guest lecturer is none other than the main lecturer's wife, here to teach us some stuff. ok so the material is pretty interesting. but i can't say i'd learn any less from listening to their recording or looking at the slides online. i'd already been biased that i don't really like this motivational type of lecturer.
tutorial wasn't of much interest. the only gripe was that the chinese nationals (uh ok so i'm slightly racist here) were inaudible. i couldn't understand what they were saying when it was their turn to speak. the tutor had to "retranslate" what they had just said. and in fact their answers weren't totally correct. at least after i read through my answer, she didn't say anything bad and moved on to the next guy. i've got a gripe with being incoherent.
next up was a lab lesson (they were gonna alternate between having tutorials and lab lessons each week) after an hour of slacking around in the computer labs. they had already given out the lab exercise one week ahead. and to be honest it wasn't that difficult (to jason and i at least)... i typed up the whole thing on the spot (i actually already finished it at home) the second time around and showed it to the tutor. i didn't want to leave too early so i just sat there to retype what i had done at home. and i was out there real quick.
my head's spinning. i'm doing work on the project of mine. some javascript function... needs more work though. still working...
*why like that one...*

stupid lecture
i had a dream, and i went back to sleep... i think i woke close to noon. hehe and then i managed to *finally* settle the "road tax" thing for our car. online of course. and there goes another AUD$202 for that. and then we took a while to try and remove the old sticker off the windscreen, before we stuck on the new one. these things are real sticky... at least we got it off intact... sort of. it's torn slightly but it's still kept together.
then my lecture was at 3.30pm as usual. one bloody hour of brainless lecture!!! OMFG!!! ARGHHH!!! i hate thursdays. once again he's still teaching stuff like the OSI model and stuff we practically learnt already. kind of pointless. and i can't believe we stayed for the WHOLE lecture. *pukes* and when we were walking back home, the wind was ridiculous! i mean... the wind was blowing in a certain direction and when i turned at a corner or something, if the wind was behind me, it was totally *pushing* and *shoving* me to move along! and then when the wind blew in the other direction, i would be pushed backwards having greater difficulty walking forward. haha... i'm easily amused, yes...
i've got some assignments to work on for now, and then i've got reading up to do for tomorrow's tutorial. this 18 page white paper... well ok it's called that way but it's not really just a piece of white paper. if it were really just a piece of white paper i wouldn't need to read through it anyway hahaha... much less EIGHTEEN pieces of WHITE PAPER!!! xD well ok anyway bottomline is, i've got this 18-page article to read up on.
and in particular, i'd been trying to figure out some things with jason on the project we've been working on. it's kinda technical... [TECHY RANT HERE] in short, i found this site about Windows Vista that was mentioning about how the upcoming version of Windows was originally built from scratch, but later was thrown one side and they decided to use the code base from one of their existing OS. which probably wasn't one of the best things to have done. but apart from that fact, that whole article had nothing to do with our project. it was just one feature i noticed in that page that caught my eye - the ad links within the text of the article. we could implement a similar feature for the project we're working on. but probably a less challenging method. we originally intended something that would either processes everything on the administrative module, or something like that. now we (ok we actually overlooked this method) can use javascripting on the client side to process this feature of ours! so the good thing about this is we won't stress the database for the feature, and instead will let the browser on the client-side process this feature instead! [OK TECHY RANT OVER]
so ok i was going through a certain popular blog when i came across this riddle. i'd came across it before. and now i'd been racking my brains (left and right) over this and i could barely understand the logic behind it. took a while... and i still didn't solve it. after i got a response from a few friends with similar answers, i STILL COULDN'T UNDERSTAND THE GODAMNBLOODY LOGIC!!! grr... fortunately someone on irc was kind enough to provide the answer *and* explaining the logic behind it properly. i think i asked a dozen people *at least* and i still 拿无球 hahaha... so 兴兴 got someone who managed to help me see the light to this silly riddle. how does the riddle goes? here it is(note... i ripped this off elsewhere) :-
*honghong~ xD*
then my lecture was at 3.30pm as usual. one bloody hour of brainless lecture!!! OMFG!!! ARGHHH!!! i hate thursdays. once again he's still teaching stuff like the OSI model and stuff we practically learnt already. kind of pointless. and i can't believe we stayed for the WHOLE lecture. *pukes* and when we were walking back home, the wind was ridiculous! i mean... the wind was blowing in a certain direction and when i turned at a corner or something, if the wind was behind me, it was totally *pushing* and *shoving* me to move along! and then when the wind blew in the other direction, i would be pushed backwards having greater difficulty walking forward. haha... i'm easily amused, yes...
i've got some assignments to work on for now, and then i've got reading up to do for tomorrow's tutorial. this 18 page white paper... well ok it's called that way but it's not really just a piece of white paper. if it were really just a piece of white paper i wouldn't need to read through it anyway hahaha... much less EIGHTEEN pieces of WHITE PAPER!!! xD well ok anyway bottomline is, i've got this 18-page article to read up on.
and in particular, i'd been trying to figure out some things with jason on the project we've been working on. it's kinda technical... got 2 people and 2 doors.well uh i finally got the answer AND understood the logic. sheesh i can't believe i took half a day to figure out that stuff. and i didn't even did it by myself... *dumb*
each person standing in front of 1 door.
one person always tell the truth.
one person always tell lie.
one door to heaven.
one door to hell.
u don't know who tell the truth and which door to heaven
u want to go heaven. ONLY CAN SELECT EITHER 1 PERSON AND ASK 1 time.

we've all heard and tasted ba ku teh before... but how many have tried Chickuteh?! it's OBVIOUSLY the vegetarian version, replacing the ba(pork) for this exotic fruit called the Chiku! and don't forget the typical angmoh typo because of the extra c in there! hahaha (note: i'm not dumb about the chicken...)
the car
today was about the car. i picked jason up after his lessons in the afternoon, and we headed to some local mechanic workshop. they have to be approved by the Road and Traffic Authority to perform a safety check on our car. and that, the mechanics did.
we went shopping and mucking around in the oriental supermarket across the street and bought a bit of stuff. then we went to the nearby Video Ezy and continued mucking around somemore, among the aisles of DVDs for movies both old and new.
finally after about an hour, jason and i headed back to the workshop. the basic checks costs AUD $28.70... oh ok alright that's nice. then on top of that our tyres were misaligned - AUD $45. 2 tyres were worn and had to be replaced - 2 x AUD $65. total came up to over AUD $200!!! WTF!!! but i guess... no choice. so we waited for another half hour or so before we got our car. we sat in this reception area watching tv and basically mucked somemore.
finally we got our car back and drove home. to which the first thing jason wanted to find out, does the car appear any better? apparently it does have a better feel to it. seems to grip on the road better, and handles better. which basically makes us feel better about having paid so much.
with all the costs included, servicing, safety check, road tax and all... it comes close to about AUD $1k for the car to be on the road... excluding fuel i think? which is quite a lot. oh well... cars are like that haha.

good news for the Sun
it appears Sun Microsystems has some good news that they should be happy about...
General Electric and General Motors has each decided to use Sun's Enterprise System within the whole organisation... great news!

Crying, while eating
uh... ever cried while you were having a meal? and recorded it down? these people did at least... i don't know where to start. whether is it about the food they are eating, the reason they are crying, or how unreal the crying really seems to be...
i can understand if one of them said her "cat is dead". but come on... "doesn't connect with modern cinema" and "realising he isn't omnipotent"?!
frankly speaking, i kind of wonder if it's really possible to cry AND eat at the same time... maybe i should...

he'd put Xiaxue under the knife to scrutinise, and all i can say is... ouch.
some nice story...
yeah i ripped this off a friend's blog ;) who ripped this off an email who... well the list goes on. so much for blog plagiarism!
"His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day,
while
trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming
from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There,
mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and
struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what
could
have been
a slow and terrifying death.
The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse
surroundings An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced
himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.
"I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."
"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer
replied waving off the offer. At that moment, the farmer's own son
came to
the
door of the family hovel.
"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked
"Yes," the farmer replied proudly
"I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education
my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll
no
doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of." And that he did.
Farmer
Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time, graduated
from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to
become
known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the
discoverer
of Penicillin.
Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog
was
stricken with pneumonia.
What saved his life this time? Penicillin.
The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. His son's name?
Sir Winston Churchill.

SingTel's Asian subscriber base breaches 70 million mark
i was like... wtf?! Singapore alone doesn't have that big a population does it? we only have 4,425,720 people(and counting of course) in the country. four million... that probably makes up slightly more than 5 percent of that 70 million!
after going through that article, you'd find that SingTel is sprawling the region with stakes in telcos in a number of countries...
but then again i doubt country M would allow them to have stakes at all. there is probably this subtle hostility in a sense without which, SingTel would have had planted their flag first thing on our neighbor's territory.
i can't help but imagine (what if there're) the covert operations the company gets involved in underneath all that corporate image they portray, in all those other countries. oops uh... i know where this is headed. better stop before i get sued... (psst or they invite me go drink kopi because i know too much)

- SingTel Optus (Australia)
- Telkomsel (Indonesia)
- Bharti (India)
- Pacific Bangladesh Telecom (duh... Bangla lor)
- Globe Telecom (The Philippines)
- Advance Info Service (Thailand)

a whole load of...
i paid my school fees today. over AUD $6k! ouch! other than that today had been normal. had been a bit rushing on something i had promised to do by today... hopefully our project won't run behind time.
and i'm getting these little bumps on my back, again. but this time, they're much lower, near my butt... ughh yeah too much info. but they are there! wish they'd go away.
my system is now forth reconfigured with Tomcat and SQL Server man... no more Oracle for now. i think...
*lots of vinegar everywhere... i've got the letter e~*

longest email address ever
would you want an email address so long nobody would believe you had it? i don't know, but here it is. you can read about it and decide if you want something like that... strangely funny though. imagine the look on peoples' faces when you tell them your email address!
uh yeah. a couple of friends were suan-ing me about the rosti photos. so i painstakingly reordered everything. it looks fine scrolling downwards now. xD

good and bad. but mostly a good sign. the government actually considers if a project is worthwhile. all these road projects are known to be costly, so a sound decision must be made about it...

picnic day?
it appears if i were to be in the state of New Territories of Australia, today would have been a public holiday! check this out. their 1st of August this year is PICNIC DAY! oh wtf... you have a public holiday just for picnics...

also during the lecture, these 2 guys beside me are my group members for the major project we're working on. this guy in long sleeve is Damir and he's from... some post-Russian country... hahaha omg i can't remember! was it Czech? noooo it was something else! oh and the guy with half his face covered is Daniel. he's thai, but he can understand chinese, because his girlfriend is! hehe... the rest of the people i don't know them but more than half are probably asleep because of the lecturer. ignore me with my mouth open letting flies go in for inspection.
stock in-processing day!
we went grocery shopping! and my bill ran up to... AUD $109!!! OMIGOSH!!! haha i'm mad. jason's share accounted for about 30% or so of the bill. the rest is mine!!! i got tons of snacks and stuff. i suppose it's a trend thing. you know... the type that has lull and peak periods... sort of like a sine wave... but this is more of an insane wave.
i'll post up pics i took just now... haha
oh and apparently my first post wasn't exactly a good post. the second fella had something more substantial and i do believe makes more sense than mine. ah... the woes of a frontliner. hahaha...
*rollz around in bed, don't forget the letter h...*

one hour
i'm just being obnoxious, but this is the scenario:
there's a subject i'm taking, World Wide Networking. One of the requirements is for us students to contribute our opinions in an online discussion forum every week (started from last week) regarding a particular topic posted up by the lecturer.
So last week i spotted the thread that was newly posted by the lecturer, and after typing (and doing a bit of research online of course) for about an hour, i posted mine up and found i was the first to post a reply.
This week (today to be precise), the same thing happened yet again! The lecturer posted up the topic about slightly over an hour ago, and i noticed it soon after, when i came back to my room from dinner(will talk about that later). So i started thinking, typing and trawling. i wrote, wondered, and wiki-ed. and i was the first to post up a response to the topic for the second time.
That is totally egotistical me in action! Hehehe... the other people who saw my post would probably think along the line of something like...
"this guy too free, everyday must be parking in the discussion forum waiting for the topic to be posted"
OR
"siao lang/ginna jin kiasu... die die must first post"
OR... something like those above lah...
But then again, i do suppose i just wish to settle this requirement for us to throw in our two cents for each week posthaste. After all, i am very much an opinionated individual as anyone else...

cracked toe
i got a small cut of sorts at the front of my right big toe. i can't be sure if i'd kicked it into something or did it get cracked honestly. but now there's a hint of blood and it feels irritatingly annoying, somewhat painful. at first i thought i had an ingrown toe nail, and used a nail clipper. but apparently that did not resolve the situation and the cut is showing more red than this morning.
