meeting ppl

not quite what i had in mind. but i had my reservations in all cases. woke up earlier to go school by 10. suppose to meet up 2 ppl in our hunt for suitable group members. they were slightly late. we met and talked. jason and i concluded they weren't exactly the ones we would work with.

then we bought some books for our subjects. these paperbacks don't come cheap... i paid $200+ in cash for our books(erm yes i'm owing jason loads of dough) and lugged them books out. off we headed to the lab. lesson you see. just running through some basic steps and thereafter analysing a java application and stuff... they certainly give our brain some workout despite being just a warm-up exercise(in my opinion). that took up 2 bloody hours. then we rushed over to a lecture at 1.30 right away.

round 2 of meeting up with people. the lecture ended. we walked... 70% distance to reach home. they called up jason. and we headed back to campus. these 2 fellas seem more promising. we had some bit of discussion to find out more about them. we're still undecided but the bottomline is, we don't like the one that appears to be behaving obnoxiously. why? first he told us something unrelated to what we might be working on at all. then he continuously evangelised PHP this and that. we basically find him annoying and brags too much, or as jason says "establishing a pecking order" and personally i find him too pushy. see lah jason. imagine his friend as you and justin as this fella. XD

we headed home n left straightaway with the car to the nearby grocer(the IGA place) and got some meat from the butcher. dinner was steak! erm yes again. not that i mind. anyway the steak today was abit off form ah? hehe i guess we probably should use the gravy next time!

and oh yes i finally arranged an appointment with my family for a video conferencing session! yay~ we chat for around half an hour. the setting up already took away half an hour before that. haha... then i showed ryan my panda and bear! kakaka... he was cooing and laughing over the sight of these 2 stuffed toys! haha~ then i talk with them all lo... i guess it's lot cheaper than idd. hehe and can see them somemore.

i guess i really have to start on the 1500 word essay soon... =_= but no i dun think i can extract 3 blog entries and dump it in for the essay... ~_~

*no hot water for shower!!!*

day of the short

i meant to type in short day in the title but i got silly and decided otherwise. today was a short day. woke at 2pm, instant noodles(from woolworths last night), then online. we headed to town. wan long, the cheena grocery shop didn't have much we wanted. no dark soya sauce in particular. erm... it's used for fried rice apparently. next we hit crown st mall. unfortunately 80% of the shops are closed. no bed tray for me, no books for jason. we tried the IGA grocer nearer to our home. closed too. tmd... they all gd life sia weekends so many shops never open. then we gave up and headed home.

i think jason was a bit miffed at returning home empty handed(considering i dilly dally before heading out). maybe that's why we didn't talk much until he asked if i was ok with fried rice... and he headed out for a jog too. so i was online most of the time, and with less worries since we're now on ADSL and no issues with phone bills that much.

ooh ooh then i made rice, again. this time it's with long grain rice, and i used less water to make it less soggy. after that was his turn to fry the rice in a pan. uh yeah no wok bo pian must use pan. result? rice a crispy lah but still ok. the angmoh sausages added in was nice too~ and we're back online once again.

-sigh- jason had his video conference with his family. me? on fone lor. bro not at home to setup computer for mum n dad during weekends. oh well, i said i hi to them nonetheless. hopefully tmr can vid conf with them ba...

my cuz can't get staff price air tix for me. so no S$300 airtix for me... haha... shhh... staff price leh... anyway, according to her, gulf air tix are going at S$600 or so. i last checked online they're at A$800. so i hope sg prices are cheaper. then they can purchase the tix in sg and mail over to me. ha! my parents are gonna check prices in sg.

so fast. week 2 oredi. i'll have to get starting on the 1500 word essay soon i guess. and the timetable's gonna be more promising from now on. labs and tutorials. here's to me, foraying into the abyss of knowledge, employing the untimely insertions of cliches and buzzwords forevermore. XD

*today machiam whole day in aircon, anywhere we go*

ken is back!

and he's faster than ever! PacNet ADSL! yay~! took us quite a while to set up man! we gave up on the wireless set up for now.

anyway i'm back from sydney. last night the train ride was abit harrowing. a 19yo guy was celebrating his birthday on board the train with 2 of his friends in my cabin and they played sparklers. he was being friendly lah but annoying abit. a friend of his lost a round of scissors paper stone and came to tickle me. then he wanted to invite me over to join them at least twice. then i declined him politely and he backed off... reached sydney we kinda lost and since it was getting late + we're in unfamiliar territory we decided to hail a cab. damn exp! the short ride cost us $11.25! omfg their meter jump so fast de... abt 13 streets away leh. hotel intercontinental.

my cousin, karen, was on the fone when she opened the door for us. uh yeah apparently we can walk straight up to her door without anybody stopping us. so theoretically we stayed in the hotel for one night without paying anything. hehe... and so we slept. 3 ppl?! uh jason slept on the window ledge. which was rather alright i guess. and i slept on the bed with karen. so comfy! feather down pillows, comforter!!! but i woke up intermittently probably 4am 6am 8am 10am... we intended to wake at 11am.

so we got changed and met her colleague. 4 of us hit the street, took a bus to chinatown and dropped by this building Market City i think. lunch for today, dim sum! and it wasn't too bad lah. $77, avg $20+ per person lo... quite full. heh and we saw a table full of angmoh gays. they left and we saw another group of gays. this time they're chinese. but they definitely behave gay. not forgetting, one of the waiter(no he's not gay) who came around to serve us abit, speaks cantonese but doesn't look half a chinese. XD yes we evil. my cousin couldn't bring herself to place orders with him. HAHAHA...

then we finished eating and walked thru the shops. as typical females, the 2 ladies went around looking at clothes. my cuz shot down 2 shirts for her guy. omg $49 per shirt! next stop, the flea market down below. quite a lot of stuff. after walking in the aisles after aisles of little stalls, i found a little something for shan. hehe... dun say dun haf arh... it's the closest thing i saw that's similar to something u wish to have. XD happy birthday hor shan!

we finished walking that area and walk to find bus stop that has the bus we need to take back to hotel. it's not exactly nearby but the walk was ok. huge gusts of wind blowing occasionally kinda surprising at times. so we took the bus (oh the trip we paid for is AU$1.60 pax either way) and popped over to Circular Quay. bought some donuts, sandwiches n stuff for dinner. headed back to hotel to eat 'em. we hung around slacking watching tv and resting basically. and i took a warm water shower. uh yeah i haven't had that for a while now.

XD and we say goodbye to my cousin and left around 7. we missed the bloody bus by few minutes, waited for the next, was late for the 7.44pm train and had to get the 8.40pm ride instead. my ATM card is locked for another 24hrs(because i still can't remember the PIN after 3 tries) and it's getting ridiculous. by the time we reached north wollongong station, it was around 10.30pm. =_= drizzling somemore. we headed to woolworths to get some groceries (they close at midnight on weekends) and finally went home.

gaaah... still have to set up the network! must get broadband up and running! we tried the wireless but it was getting tedious and getting late. the wired approach was taken and the cables were laid with black tape on the floor. and by the time we're done, 3am. and voila, here i am. i'll post the pics in the morning or something. at least we're not on dialup anymore! it's so much faster now!!! V^_^

oh and i've gotten more shorts/clothings, few pairs of chopsticks, some reference books and a benq wireless mouse!

*sydney girls are slimmer than wollongong ones. but still not much of a looker*

ken gets lost navigating to train station

yes. i asked 2 ppl how to get there and took a wrong turn. luckily one guy offered me a ride there since it's nearby. then i took another wrong turn making my way back, and asked another group. finally i got back on track and returned home sweaty and hungry. all that walking sure worked up my appetite! i bought train tix for later. guess i should pack things abit in a while, for the journey. i think it's better if we'd drive n park at the train station later, considering it took me 20mins to walk from uni to station.

lesson this morning was ok. first lecture of this subject and jason's not involved. he's at the gym anyway. and the lecturer was a lady who had a funky attitude (in a good sense, i guess), firm but not too fierce attitude and hates american english. haha... and she gave everyone our first homework. a 1500 essay to be handed up in week 4. =_=

oh and i managed to withdraw some cash over the counter at the bank on campus. and the broadband has been activated! yay~ *rejoice* my dialup provider is called Hello.net.au well i guess it's soon time to say goodbye to Hello! XD the lameness of it all~ but alas! my modem is due to land in sydney tonight! and i shall meet up with my cousin(with the modem, among other stuff) then!

and so goes one week of school. the first week... i'm considering the bed tray i saw. it's pretty useful considering i park myself on the bed whole day with the laptop on my lap. not too healthy for my sperm count i must say. the table will be good... but at $10... -sigh- oh well...

on hindsight, i must confess that the prepaid $10 internet dialup was the most satisfactory decision i've made so far. on top of that, the activation of our broadband was executed in a timely fashion, today.

*i've got some navigation issues*

no classes!

woohoo! today was free day for me. but i woke up at 10am anyway. mull around after breakfast and got online. peeled skin off mushrooms and chopped them up then got online. had spaghetti carbonara for lunch den got online. went crown st mall for exploration and paid phone bill for house owner. dammit my atm card tio lock. i forgot the pin number!!! @#$%?! :( atm card disabled for 24hrs... and i'm down to my last $40! oh well i used the credit card to top up my prepaid phone account with vodaphone. online. we ta bao dinner home from the mall. bangers and mash = sausages + mash potatoes. chicken schnitzel and chips = chicken cutlet + french fries. mash potatoes not really nice. schnitzel too soggy. chips still ok but stick together too much. sausages ok la. we shared the 2 sets. saves on washing. ooh tmr is exciting! gotta wake up early for some networking subject! then come home liao probably should get train tix! evening i guess we'll head off to catch the 9.19pm train by 9pm or so... i suppose we'll reach at 10.45pm. and navigate to the hotel my cuz is staying at. hmmm... i think i better go queue and draw money out manually... :

*tmd forgot my own ATM PIN!!!*

longest day of the week?

rather i believe today had more things accomplished by me than any other day since school started. 10.30 was a lecture, which was similar to database subjects i did in poly. of course he did talk on a higher level and referring to topics on a larger scale. then it ended, 12.30 and time for lunch.

except i didn't take any. i felt hungry somewhat, but decided against eating anything. jason grabbed a sub and headed to his religious thingy. as for me, i popped over to an empty lab to check my mail and some course material. and made an appointment with my course coordinator. and i checked the airfares with STA Travel which had a branch on campus. bloody A$819 for royal brunei return ticket to singapore?! : ah... back to the drawing board. and i headed to the lecture theatre. which was just as well since my phone kinda died on low batt and jason wouldn't be able to get me anyway.

right. after a few slides, it totally confirmed my thoughts that this is totally UML. we were taught this in poly! not that i was any good in this subject in particular. back then it was titled Object Oriented Development Methodology by TP, used Rational ROSE software and was taught by a balding AND boring male lecturer which kinda had us close to failing. over here they call it Software Process Management, apparently will be teaching us with Rational CASE(Computer Aided Software Engineering) and taught by a not-balding-as-much lecturer, of a higher education qualification. ok that was probably info overkill. basically my point is. it seems similar to what i've learnt in poly, but i wasn't that good in this subject in poly. so hopefully i can improve upon this and benefit more from the theories behind this subject. it does seem helpful in time to come.

right after it ended, was time for my appointment with the course coordinator! yes! finally i'll be meeting her. after all this time i was sending so many emails to various ppl to have finally gotten around to meet her up in person and ask my questions. although her answers weren't totally appealing at least i got answers. yes i need to do a year2 subject, C++. for the sake of the logic and theories behind it. and according to her, *hopefully* i can survive this semester. i can only enrol in the offending subject next semester since the other "compulsory" subjects are only available in this session! ladida. pray n hope n cross my fingers tight i guess. she said something like that too. at least she's agreed with this line of thought of mine.

as i said my phone died. we popped home and i charged my phone. apparently, my parents left me 5 voice msgs. i called them back. after some coming and going, they finally found the book for UML. my fault really, since i asked my bro and sis to look out for a book with the word "Rational" and they didn't really see it cos it was in smaller font than "UML". and since my dad was able to call me up and talk, it seems he's much better already. and brother is done with reservist and everything seems to be nearly back to normal. my cousin will be flying back to sg and dropping by my home to pick up the stuff meant for me from my family. heh that's fine so far. and i'll probably take the train down to sydney on friday night. 2hrs or less isn't too bad... since i heard from jason that the parking there is terribly exp.

and lynn, yes i guess pancakes for lunch is kinda KINKY... but what IS kiki's delivery... i'd act blur and not try to think it is some anime. hehehe... shan, i'd always blame myself for a lot of things i'd done. it's the common case of "if-only" dilemma. although i'd always rebutt myself and say if i'd knew everything i'd be a deity. to which i am not, so i am human and make mistakes. i would _prefer_ things to happen otherwise but since it is not i shall only sit here and sigh. of course there are times when it's obvious something is not my fault, so i guess it's not always that i blame myself for every single thing. which is healthier i presume... :) as for crumpler bags... no i dun notice it a lot here.

to think of it, i hadn't even been to town these days. to and fro between school and home. well yes my temporary-permanent place of residence, i guess i could call it home. oxymoronic term i used. we've gotten our groceries from minimarts or grocers nearby and not in town. and we rather stay home than take a walk in town since there really isn't a lot to see there anyway. only thing there is a "Crown St Mall" which i must admit we hadn't gone through the whole lot there. but recently there were reports of legionnaire's disease outbreak in that area so i guess we'd be better off not going there much either.

i heard abt the fires in singapore, to which i must express my concern for friends and families staying there. i do hope nobody's developed asthmatic conditions so far? it's really been like a 24hr aircon here. although yes sometimes it gets a bit warm. but a regular day calls for temperatures of around 24°C which is rather comfortable.

i think it's been a long time since i rant for paragraphs on end so haha happy reading my naggy lengths of text...

*and for the last time, the girls here aren't exactly nice to look at*

wrong move again!

=\ i made another wrong move. got yc to buy for us a adsl modem router. sadly it's wired. and my fault for miscommunication that he tot i said i wanted wired. it costs almost as much as the wireless one found here, and he already bought it and sent it to my home. -sighsigh- my fault.

how come so many things

ok so today's lecture was 2.30pm. we had lunch at home... uh pancakes and more pancakes for lunch anyone? XD and went to sch for that lecture. the lecturer was rather animated and talk cock abit with us so it made things more lively.

i dun recall mentioning this guy called Adrian we met? he's from our batch of ICP but he did networking. we met him at the lecture anyway. just hi and bye. after that we ran around abit to make some enquiries regarding our subjects(for jason mostly, but i benefit from the questions too).

and then we sat in an available computer lab(meant for our lab lesson but first class not supervised aka nobody will come) to login for the first time. the default password was Uow20009100323400... my barcode number on my student ID. haha hey i jus typed that out by memory! and it's correct k! of cos i have to change the password at initial login. click around for our course material and we headed home. hrmm steak for dinner. too much tendons in my share but i guess it's ok. heh...

we discussed on our intended project for about 2hrs! intensive leh! and we sent the email out around 11+... minutes later first reply from one of the lecturers. negative response. :( we gotta wait for the other guy. oh well... at least we brainstormed it.

omg my pimples are coming out. i jus drank 500ml or so of water. must water parade! gaa... family just called me. daddy went in/out of hospital 3x le and not feeling well cos of his hernia problem. bro reservist so kinda busy. but at least he comes home to sleep because of ryan and da sao. hahaha... and yc bought me a wired adsl 4port router modem. :( i'll have to work around that... plus he delivered it personally to my home somemore.

i guess i'm really looking forward to driving up sydney to meet my cousin this weekend... and get the stuff from my family. jason's got all his religious stuff to meet up with all sorts of ppl and the sad case i am here hardly knowing anyone else.

school: day one

yes so 'twas first day of school for moi. jason woke for a run at 6+ and i woke around 730. our first lesson was gonna be at 130pm. why did we wake so early? we had wanted to get advice on our course subjects with the professors and whatnot. so we walked to school. anybody can enlighten me if it's actually appropriate to refer to the university as "school" here? jason had a teensy bit of headway into what he could choose for his subjects. and he basically found out what i had to do as "compulsory" he could choose to do... which mostly he did. hahaha... but i didn't have a clue. the people i wanted to look for weren't available or not around. so we sat down in the "lobby" area to login to the intranet with our laptops and clicked around. i sent an email, and jason did his checking of the subjects to register the tutorials/lab lessons there online. and it drizzled abit. and it cleared. we walked home before the sky decided to pee somemore...

i had the urge to have instant noodles so i cooked mine, while jason made his linguine. and we hung around till 1+ and headed off in the car. it drizzled but cleared again! grrr... the parking was horrendous! we had to queue to enter the "temp parking" and drive up n down for a parking lot. we were kinda 5mins late i guess... but when we were seated there were still quite some ppl coming in. the professor talked about what to expect for the subject and halfway thru i already had the urge to doze off. XD but i roughed it out and that was it for today. jason had to talk to the fella after the lecture and we left the campus.

next stop was neighborhood shops. there was a mama shop. it's under the "Independent Grocers of Australia" aptly named IGA. if they're independent, why are they in a group? i know i'm stupid to ask this so shoot away... then they have a butcher shop! so cool! we bought some meat and we headed home.

so i had to map out my timetable and get organised. i'm having consecutive classes... lectures before/after labs/tutorials right away, meaning i have 10mins to go between buildings before the lesson starts! gee... and the fact is the person i was looking for today was the course coordinator. apparently she's not around. mondays are her "research days" which means she's not available either. so i sent her an email. of which it's 11.30pm now and she's not replied yet. i'll check again next morning.

oh and i left my original tp transcripts at home.

*pulls hair*

ooh

ok so i woke at noon. nothing fantastic but i was intermittently woken up about 2am thanks to a mosquito that infiltrated my room. i think i had over 5-10 bites on my arms and face + neck area! so i got up and dug out my secret weapon that costs $1 SGD for a 50cent coin size sticker. it's a mosquito repellent that smells. i dun reali like the smell but i'll bet the mosquitoes hate it more. it kinda worked and i went back to sleep.

erm... of cos it had to work. i stuck in on my forehead! XD much like a chinese zombie corpse i stuck the sticker on my forehead and went to bed. otherwise i wud have suffocated under the stuffy blankets and pillows... cos i wanted to get away from the mozzie.

i woke up around noon and had cocopops for breakfast. oh the irony. and i watched some interesting movie on tv. and made some garlic bread for lunch. by the time i headed off to pick up jason at the train station it's 4.15 and the sky was crumbling. yes... the rain came in the early afternoon... i picked him up in the rain and we headed home.

well wads for dinner? fish! jason's fish was pretty tasty and amazingly filling. we had 2 fillets each. delicious. hahax he sure sound like he enjoyed his trip up to sydney. oh and i start plotting for our trip up to sydney next weekend. my cousin's coming down on her next round of flights and she'll be passing me stuff from my family. whee... so we're gonna visit her there driving up on our own...

i'm hoping yc can help get me a wireless router with built-in adsl modem for me in sg and send to my family for my cuz to pass me. i do suppose it'll be somewhat cheaper than the only pc shop here who more likely than not will try to rip us off abit. hahaha...

so tmr is day one. and i'm not even sure if i've got all the tutorials/lab lessons down correct! jialat. better check things out tmr if there's lab for a subj anot... XD supposedly there's only lectures for first week. and i'll have to consult the advisor after the lecture for my subjects.

*wish me luck!*

deja vu!!!

omg i just had a deja vu. as if i'd already been in the situation before! dammit... it's freaky i tell u.
the scene i jus recalled was me watching this show on tv. the show was in winter and it's all white with a teen guy and girl walking towards school or something. then the next thing i knew, i figured i'd seen it before and changed the channel. the next channel was some sports channel, which was exactly the same thing that i remember had happened!

to top it all off, the deja vu i recalled had me in an ang moh house. which is fugging similar to the one i'm in! plus i was also in the same position. i was standing, beside a single seater sofa chair. the tv remote was in my hands. and there i was flipping channels.

urgh... to think i had this experience right after i took a cold shower. plus it's raining with thunderstorm outside. and i'm alone in the house.

jason's gone for the weekend. he's on his way to sydney as i type. the train ride will probably take 2hrs 15mins. then his friend would pick him up at sydney central station and bring him to her home. he'll be checking out the church there. and next morning i'll pick him up when he returns... so yes i'm all alone at home until next morning.

*another deja vu experience brought to you by ken*

round 2...

hurhur we woke up earlier today to hit the beach.

my V^_^ on the sand!

rocky part of the beach~

viewing the far end of the beach

and a closer look at the footprints on the sand...

and then... we came across these poor creatures... washed ashore...

it's a bunch of jellyfish that got grounded. there's clumps of them all along the beach wherever there's some seaweed or whatever plant you call those.

and then check out the seagulls... a whole flock of them!

and also the mountainous area at the back!

and then i decided to take another shot at making panoramic pictures... so this is what i did.

clicking on the small pic will pop up the larger picture in a new window.

Friday, February 18, 2005

the beach?

yeah we went out to drop by this oriental supermart to see what've they got for us. they've got asian foods. chinese, japanese, thai, korean, indonesian, indian...there's even an aisle labelled "Singapore".

then we went to check out the beach. and this time, i brought my camera. first we took these wonderful pics looking out into the horizon. i believe that's the pacific ocean. the scenery was breathtaking! wind kept blowing...

man vs nature

2x mn vs nature

notice on the left there's a lagoon...

note that there's actually a lighthouse in the distance but it's too small for you to see. it's just a white line here.

then we headed south abit, to the fish market... while jason was getting some fish, i took a few photos.

lovey dovey seagulls

the jetty

the only building around. houses the fish market, a cafe, and a chip shop.

then i decided, hey lets try this out. so i made a panoramic stitch of the area.

hope it's not too bad...

oh well

guess i'll let things slide and leave the situation as it is. i shall now justify why i should not be sad anymore.

i came here to experience studying overseas. and i'm taking this as a fulltime course as opposed to the part time course in singapore.

i probably won't decide to change course or request to shift back to sg for my studies because that rather misaligned in my plans. despite the fact that i acknowledge i made somewhat of a wrong move in my academic route of advancement.

*i have this amazing ability to screw myself enough to snap myself out of the rut*

Thursday, February 17, 2005

i stupid.

i'm having doubts abt my choice now. check this SIM course... i could have done my diploma in sg... gawd... wtf... it just occured to me. i really shouldn't have checked it out. now i'm low morale.

went sch this morning. it was raining so we took the car. was slightly late but we were in the theatre seated anyway and the instructors addressed us. then came another round of introduction of the lecturers in a smaller lecture theatre. next came the vice chancellor's address at another venue. and we mulled around the clubs recruiting people. lunch was at subway. and we headed home... nothing new. dinner was steak...

and i _had_ to check the sim website. omfg... sucker yes i am... :( gee... the only upside i can think of now is i dun have to go reservist until next year... if part time study this same course in sg... can work at the same time. and not fly to australia to spend even more. i made such a bad choice... wrong move... why i so stooopid... i wonder wad my family will think if i told them! omg. the only other plus point i can spell out next time is, i did my degreee full time. able to concentrate on the studies better. more focussed, compared to part timers who juggle their studies with work elsewhere.

*sorry i waste money and time in australia*

whoopidoo id

yay today is enrolment day. popped over to sch b4 930 to wait for their short briefing. then we headed to another room for another one-to-one with the lecturers to tell us what we have to study and electives(selectable) subjects for our course. then we headed to another location known to be computer labs. first room, i sit down at a pc, with a webcam facing me. the student assistant on the other pc across from me will take my pic for the student id card. how interesting. then we had to go to the room next door and login online to officially enrol in the subjects for our course. yeah everything kinda DIY here. then i got my student id card, student insurance id, and so we finished up and headed home. kinda full from breakfast so we didnt have lunch. at least i didn't really eat anything.

then i got online, watch tv... jerry springer was on during lunch hour. he made the audience volunteer to compete for sexiest audience member. some men n women went up and did a strip dance. there were at least 2 women who stripped until their bra came off, one took off her jeans and another few only left their bra n decent bottom half. and the guys... few took off their tops. and one lump of fat decided to strip to his boxers. thankfully he stopped at that.

and i digress... what i had for breakfast? quite sumptuous which pretty much explains why i didn't felt like eating lunch much. jason cooked 2 omelettes. 2 for each of us mind u. and 3 beef sausages each too. i finished them just about filling my stomach to the brim. and headed to poo 2x. hahaha... oh yes anyway on about food. dinner. dinner was, after much deliberation and my suggestion for jason to not cook too adventurously, was beef ravioli in tomato pasta sauce with mushrooms and chicken. well yes... that's being UNadventurous. haha ok i'm kidding. the beef ravioli was prepacked from woolworth's and the sauce was bought as a bottle. hahaha...

we'll see what comes next for us tomorrow.

oh and i have to learn C++ omfg...

*another phase completed in limbo. phase 4.0: student id card acquired*

Tuesday, February 15, 2005

and so...

well yeah the plumber called us up 8am looking for our so called landlord. woke me upzzz... and i went back to sleep. haha woke up before noon and we had lunch XD -oink-

did some research on the isp and i think we're settling for pacnet le... but it'll take about 10 to 15 days before the application is processed and we get our broadband. =_= aniwae we headed to Bunnings, it's a warehouse store nearby that sells all sorts of hardware and gardening supplies, followed by woolworth's for more groceries. and we headed home. oh yeah then i got the pacnet application sent.

uh we washed the car more thoroughly, but i dun think anybody wana picture 2 half-naked guys doing the deed, as compared to 2 girls. hahaha XD and the house owner came to drop by and return the keys, told me that we weren't supposed to wash the car, save for wednesdays, fridays and sundays... or when it gets dark so ppl can't see that we're washing it. they've got this water usage restriction that doesn't allow ppl to wash cars, windows or water their gardens that often. they've got water restriction police patrolling the area, according to her. haha but we did try using the pail so we'll be more careful in future i suppose.

so in time to come we'll have to buy our own adsl modem/router to use here. hopefully it wun b too ex. in the meantime we'll still have to live on dialup lo... =_=

*oh what an interesting pic that was*

house tour

alright. i shall dump my pics here before i turn too lazy to do it.

the table in my bedroom. it is currently closely guarded by a gang of shit.

we trying to get the wireless network setup. but it's giving us lots of problems. and the printer is there too.

we'll take pics of the car another day. you can take a glimpse of it here. i was idly taking pics out the window from our house.

this is how our well-stocked fridge looks like after a trip to woolsworth. a shit jaga looking after the freezer.

note: the maggi mee is still left unopened, primarily since jason is keeping us well-fed.

berkenan lurus! or however you pronounce that. the condiments as purchased by the master chef jason.

the bed in which yours truly gets forty winks in. accompanied by tare and bear. they never did leave me behind since they went japan with me few years back.

erm gay pose in our temp accomodation haha

another pic of our temp accomodation. not too bad lah...

gay enough? me trying to hide behind my sunglasses. note that they are same side driving as us. just that jason was trying out parallel parking and hence he's sitting that side.

"how do you do" in japanese, oz style.

and now...

ladies and gentlemen,

i hereby proudly present to you,

something really really corny...

can it get any cornier?

school?

woke up 730 and had simple coco pop. arrived at the theatre before 9am and joined the rest of the int'l students. they talked about the admissions stuff blah blah, then they had a Group Leader and we had free lunch. hold it. their free lunch barely consists of 2 ham sandwiches, an apple and a packet of tropical fruit juice. after that was another briefing. i kinda slept thru it 90% of the time XD and we popped back home although there's gonna be another tour of the campus after that. oh ok we had a short jog through the botanical garden(yes it's 5min walk from where we live) of the area and i came back with a pulled neck muscle. haha not bad leh when got room mate who can prepare steak for dinner. LOL ok la he overestimated the medium rare became well done but it's still edible with the mushroom omelette and baked potatoes.

we're now looking into which ISP to look at. probably getting pacnet. yes it's the same isp in singapore. and i guess they are offering quite a good package, that comes without a router (we can get our own) on ADSL, 6mths contract that will last us for 10mths or so(12mths contract not good for us) and pretty much the cheapest there is in the 512download/128upload unlimited category...

oh yeah and although i'm not celebrating it or anything, wish everyone in sg a happy v day... yeah shan i'm freshie once again. asuka so busy nowadays sia. rach i see if can find koala bag for you lo haha... ber got ppl celebrate with isit... XD

*my first shower since 3 days ago*

update => oh yeah got my atm card here. i'm with the National Australia Bank. they pretty much monopolised the uni for the bank on campus. and their atm card requires my signature on it. haha

online?

yes i got myself online late at night and in the comfort of my home. i bought this $10 prepaid internet dialup card. lets me choose 70hours over 60days or 20days unlimited use. i chose 20days unlimited use cos we're actually waiting for our broadband internet to come. :)

oh yeah i noe what i want. a benq wireless mouse please! yes the one with the usb adapter stored inside its body. pretty convenient. and i'm pretty sure we won't be visiting the lan shop too often anymore. V^_^

*i went to woolsworth and bought $155 worth of groceries*

we have settled in

yes we have moved into the new location which will be our permanent residence during our stay here. we just shifted in this morning and our car insurance isn't settled yet. we'll have to wait till monday. their shops are 90% closed now. the professor took us on a short tour around the suburbs with me behind the wheel. their harbour and beach was wonderful!!! omg... pity we didn't bring our cameras along!!! marvelous... the horizon, one look there's nothing save for 1 or 2 passing cargo ships. other than that the horizon is totally straight. so amazing. we couldn't see the other end of the shore right there. right. next thing we'll try to get internet up at home and get online asap. otherwise we'll have to be at this lanshop all the way until then.

*i love the love of my life!*

settling in

ok we popped online in the morning. then after some research online, we headed to check out another used car yard. but they didn't have much of anything. so we headed back to the first car yard we visited yesterday. after much deliberation, we took the car out with the agent and he drove us around in it. of course, he picked jason up after her returned the rented car. and we basically paid for it after that.for AU$3250 it's quite alright for a car made in 1991. it's a Daihatsu Charade. how many doors? it's a 1.3 sedan. yup it's 4-door, with a boot. aircon and power steering. no central locking nor power windows but that's quite alright.

we then drove up to the elderly lady's home. oh yeah we'll call it our home in time to come. we discussed the arrangement we'll be having and stuff like that. we settled for an informal one because a formal agreement involves leaving a bond with an independent agency that acts in protecting the interests of both parties. but the bond takes over 3months or so to return the bond amount into our australia bank account. by that time we are probably already long gone from australia. hence that formal agreement idea is a no good no good.

finally we popped by subway for dinner again XD and headed back to the accomodation... there was a situation with the car. the rear windshield is tinted. but the tinting layer is already dried up and has bubbles showing. it looks unsightly and supposedly not recommended/allowed on the road. i tried doing something to it. but i'm currently halfway thru doing. the peeling off is a challenging process. i did almost 1/3 for now. it still looks gross but at least parts of the tint is removed already. ya lah i know my skill not as power compared to those garage people but at least i'm working on it... hehe...

next up on our action plan, find out about internet service providers. and when we've moved in on saturday to our permanent location, it'll probably be a lot more convenient. but i guess the internet may take a while so we'll still have to visit the stupid lan shop. dun like the owner. attitude china guy. grumpy fella was complaining even when i was just asking for a bit of configuration help on my lappy to gain access thru his system. :(

*we paid cash in full for our car!*

plans for today

yup i'm in early. woke up early, online early. later on we'll be heading to look at some more cars before deciding which to buy. there's another used car dealer we're gonna pop by. then return the rented car after topping up its petrol, followed by visiting the elderly lady at her home to discuss about the moving in details. we're going to stay over at the temp accomodation 2 more nights if everything goes well i suppose.

these australians still playing counterstrike... =_= and wc3... well ok they're teaching one of their friends but i guess we play more newer games than they do... i don't think they even heard of gunbound XD

*permanent location coming up soon!*

car hunt

ok we're pretty much decided on the place we want to rent. it's the old lady we mentioned. her place is nearest to the uni compared to any other place recommended by the agents.

next is the car. we probably will get a car in any case. to get groceries and stuff. probably a cheap small car. uni... we'll walk. should be ok i guess... in any case the used cars here aren't fantastic. the situation here is, any car that sells for below $2000 is not covered by insurance. so the tempting ones put at $1999 are tricky. normal ones get around $3-4k. new cars cost how much? just add a zero behind that all prices. =_= oh well... we'll see how things goes the next few days. got a daihatsu charade with a pretty good price but we won't be buying a car today.

we woke around 11 today... we probably knocked off around 2am. haha... pigs -oink-

happy CNY everyone. the best we can do is probably get a better meal for dinner tonight. no fireworks and stuff...

*we only saw ONE public dustbin beside a bus shelter for the past 3 days since we came*

woohoo

we went house hunting today. woke up abt 10(time over here is +10GMT, singapore is +8GMT, but +1 for daylight savings) and made a few phonecalls. so we visited the real estate agents around town and went to see a few places. then we finally end up at this old lady's place. i initially called her up about a place her daughter had put up for rent at the uni notice board, which has since been rented out already. we dropped by her place because she said she'll be leaving for europe for a year or so. and considering renting her place out. the great attraction was that her place is so near to the university in comparison to the other locations the real estate agents had shown us. can possibly walk to school. so we're still considering that. and another good thing. we found a 24hour lan shop along crown street. not exactly walking distance but it's close enough for us by car. hrmm that's all for today.

it is damn boring for us at night... we watched(in fact i did since jason already watched them all) Dilbert the animated series. not much entertainment around here. no dun remind me about the nightclub stuff... XD

*can't live without the internet*

on the plane

i'll wrote this during the flight and i was pretty much bored stiff and can't get to sleep.

i'm on the flight in sq221 en route to sydney, australia. i suppose everyone knew or heard about it by now. it's still sunday. 10.30pm. i'm pretty sure you have something on if you didn't come send me off. oh yes thanks for that mms, lynn. i received and sms on my singapore hp but my dad's old phone didn't seem to be working so i didn't manage to read it. whoever that sent it pls email me whatever you intended to tell me in the msg. just now earlier on when i bade farewell to everyone at the check-in gate my parents didn't watch me walk thru the door. my mum probably would have cried... so would i. i'm leaving behind all that is familiar, headed to unfamiliar territory for a long period of time. our classmates were there. i guess i'm so overwhelmed i can't quite even let a tear drop.

and another one after that when we were pretty much left with 2-3hrs to landing.

dunno what feeling is this. a sense of nothingness. the movies were good. i wanted Lord of the Rings part 3 of the trilogy among others. they also had "Shall we Dance" and "Alfie" and "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" and more... i had Chicken for dinner. it's basically just chicken but they gave it a flowery name. i got this urge to cry. but i can't. the cabin's pretty warm. very warm in fact. i'm having my third glass of water and i haven't slept a wink. jason's been tossing and turning trying to get some sleep for a few hours already. left about 2hrs to reach. we're nearing the sky over adelaide. numb? i guess so.

in australia

i'd landed in the morning and we took abt an hour to reach wollongong from sydney. zzz limo ok la... we are now at our temp accomodation, 5 Parkinson Street SkyHouse Accomodation. we got ourselves a rented KIA and driving around with it now. $150 for 3 days. guess it's ok... we headed to the uni to open a bank a/c each and stuff... dozed in the afternoon. now i'm at keiraview for their internet access. gotta get use to life here. i never slept at all through out the 7+hours onboard the plane. watched movies, play games and stuff. never slept. i didn't eat much today either. hungry but no appetite. zzz that's all we did for today. 7-11 has a petrol kiosk near where we stay. =_=" oh and thanks to those who came to send me/us off on that day...

*force myself to eat?*

'cos i'm leaving on a jetttt pppplaneeeeeeeee, don't know when i'll be back againnnnnnnnn... well actually i do. just a rough gauge but i should be back during the hols in july for a month or so.i might not post anything for a few days unless i can locate a cybercafe there or something. these computers of mine at home will power down for quite sometime before being resurrected...

goodbye.

alas! the day has arrived!

i'm abit panicky. i totally forgot about the NSman thing. i'm supposed to request for approval from my unit to go overseas for studies. and they need to approve it. then i apply for exit permit. but all these weren't done so i kinda did the exit permit hurriedly. what made things worse was the fact i just received a letter from them informing me about the mob manning period. heck it's thanks to this letter that reminded me i haven't applied for the exit permit thing yet. so i'm jittery about it. at least i've made contact and informed the ops spec about my situation so hopefully he can cover my ass somehow haha... scary. bad boy. i didn't see this coming.

my sis smsed me to ask me what i would like for my trip today, twice. i just can't think of anything more. i asked for perusal material for my in-flight entertainment. she bought me a Tin-tin comic book. -ahem- yes i did request for something more inclined towards illustrations.

and i checked-in with Singapore Airlines. it is now possible to do this 48hrs ahead of the departure time. i think we'll head to row 3 with our luggage. i did it in the comfort of my own home. and i did it for jason as well. pity we can't get any window seats(jason prefers that) we are seated on the left of the plane near the wing; a middle seat and an aisle seat. i prefer aisle seats. more convenient to head for the lavatory plus better to check out the air stewardesses with! but i think the stewardesses are an aging population in SIA. less wendy lah... XD

*i know what i'm doing, i know what i'm doing, i know what i'm doing, i hope i know what i'm doing*

lagun sari

i shall now provide a review on a food outlet. XD

i made a few circles locating it. i saw the website and thought it was in joo chiat. but i left out the fact they had another branch in tanjong pagar. lucky i called up jason. anyway i was finally there, made a round or two to locate a parking lot. the only girl around was yvelia! so poor thing the rest of the girls couldn't make it. they serve indonesian delicacies. all pretty spicy food, not that i dislike, but i well... yes i don't prefer spicy food. chilli spicy and curry spicy is different. i prefer curry spicy. they served chilli spicy. you understand? haha and the food was quite a lot. we had about 10-12 ppl seated along both sides of the long stretch of tables joined together. chicken was abit tough though. i liked most of their fish dishes. those with little bite-sized pieces.

otherwise the trip there was satisfactory. well there's one more down side: their toilet is pathetically small. one toilet split into gents'/ladies' aka one cubicle for each gender. i suppose any guy could hang on to the partition and peep at the lady in the cubicle next door. hrmm and we finished the food and headed to ktv.

partyworld orchard. the room we got was damn huge... we probably were under-utilizing every corner. so spacious indeed! zzz i sang myself hoarse. i really should stop singing so much of Alex Toh and Jacky Cheung songs... getting stale oldies...

function forgiven(you) {
if ( you = sinner ) {
me = Math.pow(sinner , 10);
sinnerArray.add(world.everyone);
all.death.location = "hell";
} else {
body.perfect() = no;
world.setStatus("normal");
return true;
}

return false;
}

the tv is here!

the long-awaited arrival of the plasma 42" tv is finally here. the company originally said for it to come tomorrow afternoon. then they reconfirmed today 6-8pm. we waited 6-8pm for nothing to happen. they arrived at 9. i made a call at 8pm and requested the lady to check on their vehicle on the road. she called back soon enough, saying they were still at another customer's place. the guy requested a wall-mount bracket, which took longer to setup. we merely wanted a table top stand. they arrived, 2 guys, who were good conversationalists with my parents. which was good. they had everything setup soon enough, placed the tv in position, and set things in order. the tv was tuned and instructions were given. gripe: the guy instructing us on how to operate it was repeating himself for at least 3 times in at least 3 functions. i personally find that abit annoying.

but the tv was nice anyway. pretty big and bright, we had it placed against the wall on the table and now it has a lot of space in front of it. at least ryan can't really reach the tv anymore HAHAHA. take that you little monster! XD

oh yes the little monster is having fever. his mummy was around to look after him today. but despite his illness he sure talked as much as he did on normal days. and his current toy of choice is a windmill with postpet bear on it. hrmm at least he'd been quite well-behaved today. probably due to the fever till he seh-seh not as active...

stationery day

wtf am i talking about... i bought stationery today that's all. hahaha... all at pretty cheapo rates from Popular. 25 blue pens cheap, loads of staples cheap, mechanical pencil plus refill, eraser, adhesive tape, 2 CD-RW. all these at about $16. i'm satisfied with today's trip.

actually before i headed out i went grocery shopping with my dad. 60 cans of Coke and some other daily stuff haha... so much drinks! and then hor i went to meet my dear cousin at long last she's taking her leave until after CNY. so she'll be in town to send me off sia... same old sweet girl plus her hair she did it in curls pretty nice XD DFS she got 20% discount sia... i was tagging along while she kinda ran errands for her guy aww so sweet...

sometimes i'd just like to imagine that i'm batman or superman. XD imagine if i have a double life. the normal one you read here. and the dark side of things i do that nobody realises, or just sees abit of. then i'll have a sidekick. the person who shares my dark side. and we head out into the night doing things in the dark fighting crime or wrestling with baddies. wheee, batman!~~

*i'm feeling sedated*

damn the forex

the currency exchange had just been going up up up! no signs of it dropping anytime soon... from 1.25 till now 1.27 it's quite an increase. my dad is deciding to get me a bank draft of 5k to the original plan of getting 1.5k, for me to open a bank account in australia. he is predicting the exchange rate to drop after the chinese new year period. and they can teletransfer(TT) more money to my aussie bank account after that. sounds fine by me.

my heart is really anxious. even while typing this post i'm feeling somewhat frightened. haha small boy meets world. stepping into the great unknown. all the cliches u can think of...

btw i came across this long naggy webpage that i finished reading over a span of 3 nights. enjoy. up to u to believe it or not. i am kinda spooked since i'd been reading it late at night. hahaha...

and a friend of mine told me smth, not that it bothers me, really. apparently the you-know-who was spotted nearby my friend's home, which is around the same district... and the couple were apparently both living nearby my friend. i'm just feeling gossipy haha my friend, you know who you are. XD dun mind me. i'm fine, really. another piece of useless data brought to you by ken. data is material in the hands of those who find no use for it. information is data in the hands of those with which has a use for it. and this paragraph just made no sense to myself even as i type. XD

*excess baggage!!!*
