zzz

i'm sleepy. brain dead going through notes. imma drifting to dreamland soon... zzz...

hard at work?

uh... roughly. haa... i'd been revising a bit, and playing a bit. =x

but basically i'm going through the content from the slides and checking certain commands by remotely accessing the school server. it is a technical subject after all...

happy mugging! ^^;;

zzz

*ahem* yes my 2 papers were finally over. the saturday that didn't feel like a saturday had crossed me path at last.

the morning paper was dumb. really. there were plenty of questions (of the 80 MCQ) that didn't seem like they belonged. there were questions with multiple correct answers (NOTE: it's a multiple CHOICE question, not multiple ANSWER!!!) even though they required only one. i mean, it's not exactly trick questions, but the fact is because some of these things are technical in nature, we KNOW what can be done and what cannot be done. so my point is, the lecturer who had set the questions was partially clueless. to top if off, there were a number of questions too, that were name-that-year kind. omg like, which idiot would ask that kind of questions at university level?! even my history class questions also don't ask such stuff. and i failed miserably for that too. the paper was really bad. a lot of people agreed with me on that.

the second paper was... philosophical. in a way. apart from the 50MCQ (which i must admit i used a bit of guesswork here and there) we had to choose 2 of 4 essay questions to write about. each essay should be roughly 2 pages minimum. i wrote with one-line spacing to get that amount. jason wrote without one-line spacing and he's already writing more than i do. hehe... well firstly my handwriting is frigging bad. so it'd help the lecturer reading that i have spacing inbetween. and then i could write lesser and still make it to 2 pages. =x but i'm mostly following because last semester's essay exam i wrote in this fashion by request of the lecturer.

so what were the questions? let's see if i can roughly recall them... (i'm only showing those 2 i chose so you can imagine for yourself how the other 2 would be similar in fashion)

  1. Describe the dynamics of geopolitics and globalisation with regards to the United States. How has Sept 11 affected the military strategy of the country?
  2. The Bush Administration identified six key areas that should be focussed on for the security of the United States: intelligence and warning, aviation and tranport security, domestic counter-terrorism, critical infrastructure protection, preparation against catastrophic threats, and emergency preparedness and response. How has the use of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) helped in handling these areas? Describe with contemporary examples.
hurhur... so those were the questions. you can picture me writing away vigorously to answer all these. i finished in about the 2nd hour (the paper was 3 hours long)... but it was alright i guess. but want to know why i'd did it in a hurry? well for one, there the DAMN FLIES ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! it is highly irritating because the flies down here are... let's just put it, brave (we all know they are actually stupid) to hang around humans. even while walking they'll follow us, cling on our backs and occasionally fly into our face and around our ears on purpose so that we'd wave our arms wildly like madmen. it sucks! and for the second paper, they were all over the place in the exam hall that everyone in there were waving about every few minutes or so. they'd even land in front of me on the table, just to taunt me damn it!

-ahem- so yes i wanted to get out asap, away from the flies, in the safety of our house. overall i'd say today's papers were... half disappointing (first paper), half "wow"-factor (second paper). the wow part because i'd never written an answer like that for those kind of questions before. sounds like macro-economics if you asked me. hope i'd do good on them!

and for now, i have another third (and last) paper to go! on tuesday! this being a technical sort of subject, i'd probably find it challenging. and given i'm not too familiar with C/C++ stuff, i'll need to work on it.

*try...*

argh

wish me good luck for tomorrow. i'm having 2 papers. one at 9am for 2hours (that one is bullshit i tell ya) and another in the afternoon 2pm. that later one is the scarier one. it might involve questions like "Define terrorism" and "Explain what is geopolitics and globalisation. State which era we are currently in." and something along that line. omgwtfbbq!!! and it also includes other techie stuff as well. an all-rounder kind of security subject. and i'm still mugging. so bah.

*very soon le!!!*

Lucasfilm opens animation studio in Singapore

whoah.

erm why bother lol

i'd been posting waaay too many links up here today. i was surfing around for information on my revision and stumbled upon a lot of things. useless and useful alike. but otherwise i'm just as hardworking (right...) so it's back to the PDFs for me...

S'pore to develop terror risk assessment and scanning system

if u noticed in the picture that came with this article, the 2 policemen had on their hips a gas mask. LOL? i don't think it'd be very easy to build up a system they described. if the US had failed, although i must admit the "environment" here is somewhat different, it still won't be a small matter to resolve and develop. saying you want to develop something is one matter. being able to successfully develop it is another...

i've been hard at work

or something like that. revising yes, just trying to absorb things properly. wouldn't wanna get information indigestion ya? the weather's heating up of late. real warm during the day and night time. so i'd probably talk less and read more. jason says i look like i'm vegetating. i beg to differ. lol... fortunately for these subjects, multiple choice questions carry a good portion of the exam paper. let's just look at what they're gonna throw at us. zzz warm days not good for brain power processing information... for me at least.

about: About Us: OpenOffice.org

do u use MS Office? this alternative has been around for a long time too. and they are open-source, and basically free. i've heard about them being somewhat buggy and all, but if you don't wish to use MS for whatever reason (without doing less than legal stuff) you can try this instead. OpenOffice is written in C++ (that's what they say) and basically has a community that helps to build it up to what it is today. oh and they were previously known as StarOffice.

treat me better

i think this is a seriously cool video. to think somebody came up with this was a wonderful idea.

here's a view of the scenery out the window, while we were at the house of one of jason's friends. so while taking a break, i took some snapshots before the sun went down... Posted by Picasa

here's a view of the city landscape Posted by Picasa

and here's a view of the sydney harbour bridge Posted by Picasa

a view of the sunsetting in the distance! a bit cloudy though. Posted by Picasa

as u can see the place is so near to the trains! what u are looking at is in fact the train station. Posted by Picasa

here is a close up of the train that just arrived at the station Posted by Picasa

this is bondi beach! pity we had to get back to the restaurant by the time we took one photo. so we didn't have much time to take any more photos. Posted by Picasa

yesterday...

bwahaha... don't worry jason this doesn't have you in it. i filmed the city lights out the balcony. gosh it was windy.

ah anyway i was supposedly revising a bit today. well i did. on the silliest subject first. and i realised it was all bullshit on the lecture notes. so screw it for now.

and frankly i did a bit of packing. my luggage is currently half full. or something to that effect.

that is all.

we were in sydney!

we were in sydney for the day. and night too. i tagged along to meet up with jason's friends there! it was a rainy drizzly afternoon but it dried up eventually. jason and i split up and did our own shopping around town and we then met up later in the afternoon to meet his friend together. sorry ah shan, i was looking in all the wrong places for the *ahem* items. that's the problem when you forget a map of the area. lol... =x i'll pop over again one of these days =D

uh anyway lol while waiting for his friend, we were very much annoyed. not only did it drizzle earlier on, making us rather damp, but we were sweating from all that walking! it was a warm and humid day. coupled with the rainy weather made us... yucky. to top it off, the flies here are all over in town. especially at the spot we were waiting for his friend. it was annoying. :( then there was a ... hobo seated beside me. he was weird indeed. he initially sat down beside me normally. then he was... rocking. he was seated down but rocking back and forth in his seat. =_= then while i was using my phone, he leaned closer. and closer. and closer. so i got up, and walked away from the seat. jason followed. that HOBO followed! omg. :( then i walked a wee bit further away. the hobo decided to return to his seat. and we went to stand in another location. it was slightly better. but the flies were still annoying. ah well, we eventually found his friend (we had miscommunication and were waiting in different location) just below us. =_+ then we took a train to her place to get her car, and she'd drive us down to Bondi beach. cool. the beach was nice. we had dinner at this place called Hurricane, and all was good. i was using my mobile outside the restaurant and they were inside. they then requested the young waitress to come out and put this paper bib around my neck from behind and i was like wtf's going on?? lol... tio sabo. >_<""" the rest of the evening was alright, although i was a wee bit out of place when they discuss their religious stuff. but anyway we were able to feast our ears on the spontaneity of jason on the keyboard at their house. lol. will upload the... evidence tomorrow.
:P

*LV! >_<*

Tomorrow

bah

didn't do anything today, except for cleaning. we cleaned up the kitchen hob thingamajig, from all that grease. so now it's... white again. and i vac-ed the car. sort of. cos i'd wanted to superglue the floormat under the driver's seat back down. yeah it was loose. and i figure it won't look too nice if we sell it like that. but other than that nothing productive happened today. :)

let's see what i can spot tomorrow when i hit sydney. there's some sort of a shopping list already by now... heh...

day of slacking

i woke up real late today. i think i spent my day surfing and playing games. weather was... crazy today. warm+rainy+humid+sunny all-in-one. i think the trip to the supermarket today provided me with just about enough coke to last me until the day we leave. AUD$5 for 3 bottles of 2L coke! that's frigging cheap! the vending machine sells one bottle of 600ml for AUD$2.50...

and basically that's it. gaming day today. heh... and surfing around.

uh. remember that video i'd put up? do i have a fake australian angmoh accent in that? =\ so many ppl are like telling me i do. but i didn't fake leh!!! jialat. stay here less than a year pick up their speaking style liao. nevermind lah hor. come back sg for some time should be back to normal.

Project Tradeshow

we had our tradeshow for the project today. so happy now it's finally done! so yes i took a bit of photos and recorded some stuff down. you can check out the 5 minute video i have put together with commentary! whaahhahaa =x

2MB version
7.9MB version

a shot of how our laptops looked like before setting up fully. we adjusted the poster later on because we thought it looked ugly positioned like that. we were also issued a 3m cross cable for our laptops by the uni. which we never used anyway. Posted by Picasa

here's a shot of jason setting up his system before the event started. Posted by Picasa

our "packaging" for the project. the jewel case has a nicely printed out cover complete with backing. Posted by Picasa

while preparing for the event... they were filling up their peer assessment forms. of us! kekeke...  Posted by Picasa

another view. notice that 90% of the groups there have LCD panels and mac chio chio monitor screens and all. minus our team. Posted by Picasa

the whole UniHall (that's what it's called) from a corner. it's all too bright so it's not too clear here. Posted by Picasa

the setup of our "booth". it's just a table+softboard. our laptops are there with the CDs and manuals. the application is shown on jason's lappy and mine is playing the video presentation. Posted by Picasa

another group photo with just the 5 of us. Posted by Picasa

group photo! with our group is our supervisor Dr Win in front, Prof Andrew Dalley beside me, and Linda Blackmore head of the Diabetes something something dept. they're our clients. and Prof Andrew is holding the CD we gave them, with our project inside. he commented the CD was probably worth AUD17-18k!!! =x Posted by Picasa

i think the majority of the photos here will have jason in them hahaha... he's explaining the project to this lady who is ... the official spam queen of the IT faculty. she sends out... notices to everyone. hence... spam queen. Posted by Picasa
